Rune Matrix: Programming Magic After Transmigration
Chapter 65: Godspawn
CHAPTER 65: GODSPAWN
Without blinking...or without being able to blink...Zephyr stared at the obsidian pyramid, which was disintegrating. Red glowing mana flooded out like a wave, seeping out of the cracks between the walls.
From top to bottom, the pyramid crumbled inward. Any second now, the godspawn would awaken and emerge.
’Godspawns are creatures carrying the blood of godrace, the most hated and feared race in this world. They were even scarier than the demons and monsters who are known to destroy and kill everything.’
’And the reason for that was their strength and what they chose to do with it.’
Zephyr remembered the fragments of lore he had once read.
’Far back in the past of this world, before rune magic was even a thing, the world was ruled by the God race. They called themselves the mirror image of God, and they believed they were truly capable of being god.’
’To prove their crazy beliefs, they conquered the world, enslaving every life form that existed—including the fairies, demons, monsters, mana beasts and humans.’
’They considered every other race lesser beings from then on and ruled in tyrannical fashion for eons. And during their rule, the world suffered innumerable injustices.’
’This became the catalyst that culminated in the creation of runes by the humans. Or to be specific, the nameless Wizard King of the forgotten era that they later called the Prime Luminary.’
Zephyr thought about the conditions of humans during the enslaved era and the oppression and discrimination they must have suffered.
In the game, there was a boss called the bone master. It was a monstrous entity that was said to be formed from the bones of the creatures that died bearing great injustice. It was said to be born during the time the God race ruled the world.
And the bones that primarily made up the body of the Bone Master were human skulls.
’The humans were the weakest of the enslaved races. They were not naturally gifted in magic, nor did they have long lifespans like the elves of the mythical dragons.’
’By all means, they were truly weak.’
’Thus, they were the ones who drowned in hopelessness the most.’
’However...’ Just thinking about it made Zephyr’s blood boil in excitement.
’However, they were in great numbers and were unwilling to give up.’
Humans reproduce fast because of their shorter lifespan. While the majority of them fail to tame mana, a few would still become mages. These few began to build their legacies.
’At that time, humans tried to imitate the god race to use magic. But later, they realised it was not suited for them.’
’While the God race could use magic with just their imagination because of their exceedingly large mana pool and great talent, humanity delved into the hidden mysteries of mana to carve their own path.
Since they can’t spend an eternity experiencing learning magic, they chose to study it in parts, creating the different specializations. At the same time, they shared the knowledge widely, passing on their knowledge from one generation to another to empower themselves.’
’For eons, while under slavery, they worked without rest, learning magic from the ground up. Passing on knowledge from one generation after the other until the first Wizard King was born.’
’Prime Luminary, as they call, the greatest mage to have ever existed—an unparalleled genius of humanity. Through some miraculous way, he created the rune magic system.’
’From then on, using magic became a thousand times easier. Even without understanding the principle behind the runes, they could use the magic if they could carve the runes on their mana cores.’
’This became the starting point that turned the power landscape upside down.’
’With their newfound powers, humanity rebelled against the god race by joining hands with the fairies and mythical mana beasts.’
’Finally, somehow, they banished the Godrace from the world after millennia of war.’
’Yes, somehow was the explanation given in the game.’
Zephyr tried to frown, but the world was frozen in time. He couldn’t even move his brows.
’It was friggin ’bad history with a friggin’ bad explanation. Nothing was mentioned in detail about how humanity won against the god race or how they were banished.’
’It was as if they wanted it to remain mysterious. Or the game creators didn’t think that hard about the lore.’
’Anyways, humanity won against the God race and expelled them from the world by paying a great price. But a few creatures with the god race blood remained.
These creatures were the result of the experiments conducted by the god race.
Just to prove they were closest to being God, they tried to create beings in their mirror image.’
’But most of these experimental creatures died. Leaving behind only a few in hidden locations.’
The pyramid that Zephyr was looking at was one of those hidden locations that stored a godspawn—an experimental being created by the God race.
’In this era without a Wizard King, the birth of a godspawn was one of the greatest dangers a nation could face. Kingdoms could topple, or even an entire domain could fall if it is not subdued early.’
Fortunately, Godspawn’s body was considered a natural treasure that could be used in all kinds of elixirs. There was enough motivation for the elites to come and hunt them.
From the old nobles who wanted to increase their lifespans to wizards who wanted to enhance their strength. Everyone would hunt the creature.
’However, that doesn’t mean it would be easy to kill.’ Zephyr said in his mind.
The boss monsters he defeated in the game were the godspaws, who survived—those that everyone failed to hunt and kill. Even if the one who was born just now is weaker, it would still be comparable in strength.
’Uh...The murky past of humanity in this world is difficult to understand. The threats they face are innumerable. ’
Zephyr had many questions about various things.
For example, why did the rune magic they created become a forgotten magic of the past?
What happened after they gained their freedom?
Did they forget the very tool they created?
How did the Wizard Kings of the past banish the God race?
Where were they banished to?
A lot was a mystery.
As a gamer, Zephyr didn’t care much about that past. And he didn’t think it was unusual that a lot of information was omitted in-game since there were limits to what a game could show.
However, now, living in the world, his attention began to go into these mysteries.
’If I could, I would have gone to the royal library to read some history books. But unfortunately for me, I am about to die.’
While Zephyr was thinking one thing after another, the pyramid turned to black dust. From it, a blinding red light was released outward, revealing the figure of a humanoid creature two to three times the size of a person.
