CHAPTER 84: TOWN

Zephyr knew nothing about what had happened back in the village. He woke up early, ate breakfast, took a bath, and decided to go out for a walk.

He couldn’t return home, to the original Zephyr’s real home, without healing his arm. So, during this free time, while Corvinus prepared the necessary items to heal him, he wanted to explore a little, gain a general understanding of what was happening around the world, and also find watermelons.

For that, the town market in the centre of Whitewater Viscounty was a great place.

Zephyr wore his mage robe, the gray-washed-out one he always uses, and walked out of the guest room. Immediately, a pretty maid walked up to him and curtsied, handing him a leather bag.

Smiling, he waved his hand in the air. The bag responded by moving on its own and flying into his hand.

’Telekinesis is useful.’

His smile widened.

He had learned the telekinesis spell yesterday night from the spell book Aurelia gave him. The spell was a simple 56-rune structure. With his 1356 mana cores, Zephyr had no trouble forming it in his mindscape.

’I could imitate the spell with just my natural mana control. But the mana cost would be more than what I used now.’

’It’s kind of a trade-off between flexibility and mana cost.’

’If I just want to grab and bring objects towards me or send objects away, the spell is better. But if I require granular control, I should do it the other way.’

’So, simply put, I can’t use the spell to grill something.’

He noted it in mind and took the bag, placing it over his shoulder.

Zephyr asked for the bag yesterday, and the maid prepared it just as he wanted. He gave her a nod and walked out into the hallway leading to the exit.

The Viscount’s manor was large, with dozens of rooms spanning a wide area. From the material used to build the manor to the furniture and artworks decorating the hallways, everything showed the wealth of the Viscount.

Compared to Zephyr’s family house, this house was a hundred times better.

’That’s the difference between a Viscount who owns land and collects rent...and a Count who has neither. The uncle contributed greatly to our poverty.’

Zephyr had gained access to more memories after the word family reminded him of everything. So, he knew how his family went bankrupt under his uncle.

"Anyways, let’s see if I can find anything interesting."

Zephyr quietly walked out of the Lord’s manor. Then he walked around the administrative building and finally went out through the main gate.

The guards bowed when they saw him, letting him leave.

Zephyr nodded and continued to walk.

The lord’s manor was situated right next to the bustling town. He didn’t even need a guide to know where to go since he could see plumes of smoke rising from the direction of the town.

Humming a simple tune, Zephyr threw the leather bag over his shoulder and walked.

A few minutes later, he reached the town square.

Contrary to what he expected, the town square was clean. There was no unpleasant smell of horse manure, nor was there the stench of sewage.

In fact, Zephyr was surprised by the slight floral scent in the air.

When he turned around to look where it was coming from, he saw a large building with a metallic sun hanging over it. The sun was glowing in a pale yellow color. Albeit not being as bright as the morning sun, Zephyr could still feel its radiance shine onto the street.

’The Helios Church.’ He commented in an even tone.

The church was an independent organisation that provided welfare to the people of the land. And most importantly, they had a monopoly over healing because of the divine mana they gained as a blessing from their god.

They could heal most simple diseases and injuries if a person were willing to pay a small donation.

’If I have to regenerate my arm, I have three options. Let a Master from the church treat me with their divine magic. Find a wizard with life magic affinity in master rank. Or, go to the elven kingdom and eat the nectar of life born from the tree of life.’

"The last one is practically impossible to do." He mumbled and walked to the center of the town square, avoiding the church.

Though there was a Helios Church in the town, there would be no Master in this corner of the kingdom. The Azure Kingdom hates it when high-ranking people affiliated with the Holyland roam their land. Fearing an insurrection, most Masters from other kingdoms were tracked and monitored by the King’s forces, so finding one would be rare.

’And...even if there was a master, without proper elixirs to support, their magic would tap into my lifeforce to cure me. For a significant injury like a loss of an arm, it could kill me if no support potions or elixirs are used.’

He silently judged that there was no point in visiting the church. At the same time, he was happy to see the game world come alive before him.

In the game, most towns were deserted with little to no people due to the war. The scale was also incorrect, from the number of people to the buildings, as well as their diversity.

Zephyr watched everything closely, taking in everything with a smile.

What he was experiencing was beyond what words could describe.

’A totally different world...’ He silently thought as men and women passed by him.

Again, it dawned on him that he was in a different world. From the culture to the way people talked and acted all differed greatly from what he was accustomed to.

’The town looks like a different planet from the seaside village. And they are extremely lively. If a town could be this lively, how would a city look?’ He wondered as he walked through the bustling streets.

Suddenly, his nose twitched as the cold morning wind carried the aroma of meat pies to his nose. Then came the scent of vegetable soups and bread. Together, they made him salivate even though he had eaten a lavish breakfast a few minutes prior.

’I should get something to eat and find a place that sells maps.’

The first step he decided to take to understand the world was to analyse a map.
