Running A Cemetery in North America
Chapter 58: The Sleeping Girl
CHAPTER 58: CHAPTER 58: THE SLEEPING GIRL
In terms of making money, Sun Yan, who grew up in North America, always had an obsession. His family’s financial situation wasn’t very good, and the restaurant his parents ran in Chinatown could only maintain a basic living; getting rich was certainly out of the question.
Therefore, when Sun Yan previously stayed in the restaurant’s kitchen wielding the ladle, he always dreamed of making more money to provide a better life for his parents and himself.
But as an ordinary person, his ability to make money was quite limited, so this dream could only exist in imagination.
But now, having inherited the graveyard and gained exorcism abilities, it was as if a better money-making path had been opened for Sun Yan.
Helping others with exorcism can earn money, and exorcising demons and confiscating their assets can also earn money, practically a modern version of robbing the rich to help the poor.
Sosia couldn’t have imagined that even before meeting the Morolick Clan, Sun Yan was already thinking in his mind about how to earn gold coins from them.
Regarding knowledge of the Morolick Clan, even Sosia didn’t know much. This was a blood race family active in Central Europe hundreds of years ago; it wasn’t until later, when the British army went to colonize America, that they migrated along with the fleet to North America.
In terms of the history of settling on this North American continent, the Morolick Clan preceded the Angke Clan, where Sosia belonged, by several years.
"Besides werewolves and the blood race, have you seen any other non-human races like yours?" Sun Yan curiously asked.
After witnessing Madam Lolian gaining Butis’s power through a mysterious pot and transforming into a terrifying Snake-man, Sun Yan was no longer surprised by the appearance of werewolves and the blood race. Since even demons had appeared, non-human creatures like werewolves and the blood race naturally weren’t a surprise.
"I haven’t seen them. In fact, I’ve only encountered real blood race members a dozen times. After all, there are still priests from those churches in North America, and there are strong people among humans too. Even though our Angke Clan maintains a good relationship with the church, we still have to be cautious, adhere to human rules, and not appear easily, or else we would receive warnings."
Sosia revealed everything she knew to Sun Yan. As a novice who had just stepped into the North American exorcism realm, she said many things that were beneficial for Sun Yan, broadening his knowledge.
Throughout the journey, Sun Yan was quietly focused on driving, while Sosia occasionally talked to keep him company, making the monotonous driving time seem more bearable.
Yellow Rock Town is located at the border of California and Nevada, even driving there from Gospel Town takes quite some time.
This is a town situated beside the mountains and forests, where the residents typically make a living by logging and processing timber into raw materials. Along the road, many lumberjacks carrying axes and wearing suspenders could be seen headed towards the logging fields near Yellow Rock Town.
By the address left in Curry’s phone call last night, after entering Yellow Rock Town, Sun Yan parked the car at the gate of a yard full of green plants and then walked in with Sosia.
The reason Sun Yan didn’t choose Justin, a member of the blood race, to be his cemetery member last night was because he had a problem that he couldn’t be exposed to daylight.
This disadvantage was too great, not conducive to following Sun Yan on daily outings. In contrast, the werewolf Sosia, who had no such major drawbacks, seemed more suitable.
"Is Mr. Curry home? I’m Jackson." Standing in the yard, Sun Yan called toward the main house.
Soon, the door was opened by a scruffy middle-aged white man who rushed out, wearing an uncontrollable smile, as if he had welcomed a savior.
"You’re Mr. Jack, thank God, my daughter is saved."
Curry extended his hairy hands to grasp Sun Yan’s hand excitedly, "You look so much like Father Stephenson, he was a respectable exorcist. Please forgive me for just learning about Father Stephenson’s passing; otherwise, I would have surely attended his funeral."
Sun Yan smiled faintly, "No need to be so polite, Mr. Curry. First, take me to see the situation at your home, exorcism matters should be addressed early."
"Yes, yes, please follow me." Curry immediately turned and went inside, followed by Sun Yan and Sosia.
Curry’s house is very old-fashioned in its decoration, resembling the style seen in American sitcoms like "How I Met Your Mother," full of a sense of times past.
As soon as Sun Yan entered the living room, he saw lots of doll toys hanging from the ceiling, each dressed in ugly, rudimentary, handmade clothes. However, due to the maker’s poor handiwork, it not only failed to convey beauty but also gave a rather eerie atmosphere.
"These are?" Sun Yan pointed at the dolls and asked.
Although he had opened the Celestial Eye and didn’t detect anything unusual from the dolls, having such a setup in a normal household was enough to be considered very odd.
Curry explained worriedly, "Half a month ago, my youngest daughter started acting strangely. She would stay home every day drawing. Initially, I didn’t think there was anything wrong, but soon drawing wasn’t enough for her. She began using the family’s needles and threads, tearing out the cotton inside pillows and cushions, and locking herself in the room as if possessed, sewing various dolls and then hanging them all over the ceiling, not only in the living room but in every room of the house. The problem is, she’s only five years old. She had never done this before."
"So the child is still doing this now?" Sun Yan asked.
Curry shook his head, looking even more worried, "Three days ago, while sewing a doll, she suddenly passed out and hasn’t woken up since. I brought in the town’s doctor to check on her, but the doctor said my daughter’s physical condition was normal. Even taking her to the big hospital in the city yielded the same results, which is why my wife and I suspect it might be related to the incident that killed my eldest daughter. That’s why we called the number Father Stevenson left us when he left."
"This sounds complicated."
Sun Yan reached up and took down a doll hanging from the ceiling. It was a female doll with braids; her eyes were sewn with two red buttons, and the stitching at the corners of her mouth curved downward, giving her an appearance of dissatisfaction.
At the back of this doll, a pair of blood-red wings had awkwardly been sewn on, looking very out of place.
A closer look revealed that most of the dolls hanging throughout the living room had wings at the back, some had a pair while others had only one.
In the Bible System mythology, beings with wings on their backs often represent angels, but Sun Yan, finding no answer through contemplation, followed Curry to a room on the second floor.
Inside the room lay a small girl asleep on a pink bed. A weary-looking white woman with a cross in her hand was praying silently by the bedside. Seeing Sun Yan enter through the door, she stood to greet him.
"Mr. Jack, please quickly examine my daughter. What’s wrong with her?"
In the face of the woman’s plea, Sun Yan subtly opened the Celestial Eye, looking at the little girl on the bed, and his eyes instantly widened in shock, revealing a look of astonishment.
In this young body, there was actually an absence of a soul.
