Chapter 59: Summoning the Soul
CHAPTER 59: CHAPTER 59: SUMMONING THE SOUL
The human body is like a vessel that can contain the presence of a soul.
If the soul leaves the body, the body will lose control and result in a vegetative state.
There are many ways a person’s soul can leave the body; usually, the most common is during moments of extreme fright, or when an external force forcibly extracts the soul.
Regardless of the method, if the soul cannot return to the body promptly, very severe consequences will occur.
This situation is commonly referred to as ’Soul Loss’ in folklore.
Through the Celestial Eye’s examination, Sun Yan can confirm that this little girl before him has encountered such a situation. Unknown events have caused her soul to leave, and it no longer resides in her body.
"Has your daughter been frightened lately?" Sun Yan asked Curry.
"No... Ados, has Betty been?" Curry blurted out his answer but then thought the person who spends the most time with their daughter isn’t him but his wife Ados. So he proceeded to inquire from the Caucasian woman.
"No, Betty is very obedient. I’ve always been watching her," the Caucasian woman shook her head, murmured worriedly: "Besides, Betty has been staying in her room sewing dolls lately, not even stepping outside the door."
After getting a precise response from his wife, Curry eagerly asked, "Mr. Jack, what’s wrong with my daughter? Is there a way to cure her?"
Sun Yan placed the bag he carried onto the table beside him and methodically took out the Magical Artifact, the Soul-Calling Banner.
"Your daughter’s situation is a bit complex. To put it in the simplest terms for you, her soul has left her body and is in an unknown place, which is why she remains unconscious. To awaken her, we must find her soul and return it to her body."
"What? How could this happen? Mr. Jack, can you find where my daughter’s soul currently is? Don’t worry about the money, no matter how much you ask, I’ll pay," hearing Sun Yan’s explanation, Curry’s face was filled with anxiety.
As a father, his heart is filled with love for his daughter. The couple has already lost one daughter and absolutely cannot endure losing another child.
Sun Yan shook the Soul-Calling Banner in his hand: "Next, I’ll perform the ritual to call the soul. With luck, we might be able to summon your daughter back soon. As for the payment, just pay the 2000 US Dollars as discussed during our phone conversation yesterday."
Generally speaking, if an ordinary person’s soul emerges, it will wander aimlessly near their dwelling and seldom venture far.
Because once a soul lingers outside too long without returning to the body, it can truly transform into an Evil Spirit, and the original body, as an empty vessel, risks being targeted by other Evil Spirits eager to possess it.
Holding the Soul-Calling Banner at the bedside, Sun Yan began to gently wave the banner. Initially, nothing happened, but as Sun Yan increased the speed of the waving, the room gradually changed.
The curtains before the window moved without wind, picture frames on the walls fell off, and even the chandelier above the crowd swung automatically.
Sosia, eyes intense, watched everything around her and quickly moved two steps closer to Sun Yan in order to protect him in case of danger.
Bang!
The originally closed bedroom door suddenly swung open, and gusts of cold wind blew in from outside.
Sun Yan glanced back and saw an old man with a swollen foot and a pus-covered face crazily walking in from outside, his expression appearing very excited.
Following him was a tall woman in a white skirt with two heads on her neck and a middle-aged bald man with a drinking nose.
These individuals all targeted Betty’s body, striving to rush towards her lying on the bed.
But strangely, when these unwanted guests suddenly rushed into the room, Curry, his wife, and even Sosia standing beside Sun Yan, remained extremely calm, seemingly oblivious to all of it.
Seeing the crippled old man nearly touch Betty’s body, Sun Yan suddenly swung the Ghost Torturing Stick directly at him.
Covering his face, the crippled old man instantly fell to the ground, letting out a painful scream, and white smoke rose from the part hit by the Ghost Torturing Stick, signaling impending destruction.
Two more strikes drove the other two away consecutively, Sun Yan’s gaze was indifferent as he stared at the trio: "Scram, don’t think about laying a finger on this body."
Curry looked puzzled as he watched Sun Yan talking to the air, feeling very confused. But fearing he’d disrupt Sun Yan’s ritual, he didn’t dare voice his question and instead stood silently aside, nervously watching Sun Yan still shaking the Soul-Calling Banner.
Ordinary human eyes cannot see Evil Spirits, thus these three unwelcome guests rushing in were none other than the Evil Spirits wandering near Yellow Rock Town.
A body without a soul is the best vessel for Evil Spirits. If they manage to seize this body, they can be reborn as humans once more.
Of course, Sun Yan won’t let these solitary ghosts succeed. He must summon Betty’s soul back to her body, otherwise, this poor little girl will have to wander the Human World forever as a soul.
Struck thrice by the Ghost Torturing Stick, these three Evil Spirits sensed how difficult Sun Yan was to deal with, but they were too tempted by Betty’s body; no Evil Spirit would give up the chance to be human again.
Seeing Sun Yan still unmoving on the spot, the three Evil Spirits fearlessly encircled once more, all trying to snatch Betty’s body from him.
Sun Yan’s brows furrowed immediately. Initially focused on summoning Betty’s soul, he had held back, but finding them so obstinate, he finally showed no mercy and unleashed the Ghost Torturing Stick with full force, causing them to disperse on the spot completely.
Instantly, the peculiar disturbances in the room halted, and everything returned to its original peace.
Seeing off these troublesome Evil Spirits, Sun Yan turned to Curry and said: "You and your wife now go around the house, inside and outside, while calling your daughter’s name. Don’t stop until I tell you, you must call until I say you can stop, understand?"
"Alright, alright, we’ll go right away."
Faced with Sun Yan’s instruction, Curry dared not disagree, promptly taking his wife out of the room. The name ’Betty’ echoed continuously throughout the house as they moved.
With only Sun Yan and Sosia left in the room, Sosia curiously asked, "Will that be effective?"
"Soul emergence is akin to dreaming, even the soul itself doesn’t know what happened, so it wanders unconsciously. If it can’t instinctually return to its body, only its name can create a sense of belonging, like lighting a beacon in the dark, for the soul to find its way back."
As Sun Yan shook the Soul-Calling Banner, his expression was very solemn: "Of course, this is the ideal situation. Hopefully, nothing unexpected occurs."
