Chapter 56: Familial Warmth
CHAPTER 56: CHAPTER 56: FAMILIAL WARMTH
The rainy campus, raindrops splashed onto the ground, spreading a veil of water.
In the mist of rain, two people walked quietly like this.
Adrian Walyon’s arm was long, proportionate, actually a bit thin, lean and taut.
Yet today, in such an environment, it inexplicably made Summer Sutton feel at ease.
After her grandfather passed, she got used to living alone, and it’s been many years since anyone picked her up when it rained.
Today’s Adrian gave her a sense of family.
Such feelings came particularly strangely.
Even though she had only known him for a few days, she even had no understanding of him at all, yet sometimes he could give her familial warmth.
Amidst the rain, she began to talk with him.
"Why did you come?"
"When did I not come?" Adrian retorted.
Summer thought about it and it seemed to be true.
But today was different from usual, in such bad weather today, driving was quite inconvenient, she thought he wouldn’t come!
Adrian didn’t say much, quickened his pace, and led her to the car.
The car heater was turned on, he wrapped his jacket left in the car around her, Adrian started the vehicle.
Driving her back to the villa, upstairs, he straightforwardly led her to the room.
As soon as they entered, he held her and headed to the bathroom.
Summer sensed his intent and suddenly panicked, "I can do it myself, you don’t have to bother!"
Adrian glanced at her coolly, his lips curled into a hint of disdain, "Never seen it? Or never touched it?"
Summer was flushed from his taunt, embarrassed not knowing how to respond.
Apparently, he wasn’t wrong.
Adrian paid her no more attention, ran the bathwater, and placed her into the tub.
Summer stiffly sat in the water, like a ragdoll left to his handling, blush creeping up to her ears.
Adrian, expressionless, helped her wash up, dried her off, then carried her back to the bedroom.
He found a warm outfit for her to change into, afterward, he went to the bathroom to take a shower.
He stayed in the bathroom quite a while, the sound of water continuously pouring.
While waiting for him, Summer nestled on the bed, somehow drowsily fell asleep.
Her head felt heavy, once her head hit the warm bedding, enveloped in cozy comfort, she quickly fell into a deep sleep.
After Adrian came out, seeing her face unusually flushed, fetched a thermometer to check her temperature.
Gazing at the clear reading displayed, a strange fury surged in his chest.
Forty degrees.
Setting the thermometer aside, with a stern face, he took his phone and walked to the study, making a call to the school.
Not sure what was said, after hanging up, he returned to the master bedroom.
Summer remained in a dazed sleep, her head feverishly muddled.
Despite the room’s warmth, she still felt cold.
Her slender body curled into a ball, murmuring in delirium, "Daddy... Daddy..."
Her voice was weak, as if trapped in a painful dream, brows tightly knit.
Adrian stood beside, quietly watching her, his expression grew even more grim.
Summer had a dream, dreaming of the accident involving Father Sutton during her childhood.
She dreamed of little her, held high by her father one day, yet the next day she could only see him in the cold cemetery.
She dreamed of many moments spent with her father, every bit, and whenever she thought of that familiar face, her heart couldn’t help but ache sharply.
