Chapter 153: Chapter 153: Politely Refusing Kindness (8) Chapter 153: Chapter 153: Politely Refusing Kindness (8) “At that time, can you please put my name first, Dean?” Seeing the looks those people just gave her as they left, she knew that the hospital’s comments would be all over the place.
The messages that were spread, of course, wouldn’t involve the Hawkins Family but only her father, saying he had pulled strings to keep her from being sent away.
It’s just half a year, and she feels good about it. At least she doesn’t have to stay in G City every day, at risk of bumping into the Hawkins family. In time, her belly will grow larger day by day.
If she really let the Hawkins family see, she wouldn’t be able to explain to Granny Hawkins; so even if it were for a year, she would agree happily.
“Okay.” Dean Liu agreed heartily. He respected Carolline from the bottom of his heart. She is truly Henry Ruiz’s daughter.
Carolline grew up under Henry Ruiz’s favor, but she was never spoiled. No wonder so many people like her.
“Also, Uncle Liu promises, when you come back, you will be promoted to head nurse directly. As for Avery, I promised her that she can learn to be an assistant with your father.” Liu Changfu was so happy that he blurted everything out.
“…” So that’s why Avery was so indifferent to going to the countryside.
When Carolline came out of the Dean’s Office, she felt that the hospital colleagues were looking at her differently. She didn’t explain; after all, everyone would understand in a week. Why bother making extra explanations?
However, there was one person she needed to explain to. Carolline took advantage of today’s relaxed work schedule and called Granny Hawkins. Granny Hawkins was delighted to see her call, “Carolline, I thought you forgot about Granny.”
“How could I? Granny Hawkins, how is your health?” Carolline asked, as it had been a while since she last saw the old lady.
“Hmm, I’m old now. Carolline, when will you come to see this old lady?” Granny Hawkins was really looking forward to her visit but was always disappointed.
“Hmm, maybe next break? I just had a break, so in another five days.” Carolline promised.
“Good, good. Granny will be waiting for you. I’ll have the servant cook you something delicious.” Granny Hawkins laughed heartily.
“Thank you, Granny Hawkins. By the way, Granny Hawkins, I wanted to tell you that I have already volunteered for the hospital’s trip to the countryside. Thank you for your previous efforts. Don’t worry, I know how to take care of myself.” Carolline promised.
“…Well, then you must take good care of yourself.” Granny Hawkins sighed helplessly. This girl is truly considerate.
At that time, she thought she was doing the right thing by finding Dean Liu, but she also guessed that Carolline might refuse, because she knew Henry Ruiz’s character. So, as his daughter, Carolline might not accept her interference.
As expected, she did not accept.
“Alright, thank you for your help, Granny Hawkins. After I become the head nurse, I’ll treat you to something delicious, okay?”
Carolline omitted the “Hawkins,” which made Granny Hawkins very happy. She said several goodbyes before hanging up contentedly. Carolline also ended the call.
When she got off work, Raymond called. He was waiting outside, asking her out for a meal.
He didn’t allow her to refuse, so she reluctantly agreed.
Carolline tidied up a bit, and Avery came over, inviting her to eat in the cafeteria. Carolline declined, saying she had an appointment. Avery pouted, wanting Carolline to take her along. Carolline just smiled and said next time.
If Raymond’s career aspirations weren’t so strong, when her second uncle wanted to introduce him to someone, she might have brought Avery along. But now is not the time.
Avery did not know about Carolline’s calculations. Carolline did not agree, so she did not say anything and went to the cafeteria alone.
Raymond took Carolline to a luxurious steakhouse for dinner. Not many people eat steaks for lunch, but it was her first time. “What’s the big deal, Young Master?”
“What are you talking about? You’re my sister. What’s wrong with breaking the bank for my sister?” Raymond said generously.
“…” Carolline pursed her lips. Raymond’s family was full of businessmen, always calculating. He was stingy with everyone, even Jasmine Ruiz, let alone her. Today was different, most likely due to Bryan Hawkins approving his project proposal. So, he was being kindly charitable by treating her to dinner.
So, she was still taking advantage of Bryan Hawkins, wasn’t she?
“Don’t be like that, order whatever you want. Today you can choose whatever you like, even Australian lobsters.” Raymond was delighted, taking the bulging wallet from his bag and slapping it on the table, signaling that he had the money.
“Put it away, please. Don’t embarrass yourself, alright?” Carolline felt embarrassed and lowered her head, whispering to Raymond.
“One A set meal, please.” After looking at the menu, Carolline told the waiter. She didn’t like lobster and such but could enjoy a steak, “And also, make it well-done.”
“…” The waiter was surprised, as there were few customers who liked their steaks so well done.
Carolline just smiled. In the past, she could also handle medium-rare or rare steak with some blood, but now she had a baby, so she had to consider her baby’s safety. Though those bloody steaks seemed to be fine, she would still worry about whether they had killed the bacteria. She could take risks herself, but not now.
“I’ll have the B set meal and make it medium.” Raymond thought Carolline was embarrassing him. He quickly ordered and let the waiter go.
“Is this your first time here? I’ve never heard of anyone ordering a steak so well-done. If you ordered it medium-well, I would consider you an expert.” Raymond didn’t look so pleased.
“If you say one more word, I’ll order a very well-done steak for you, believe it or not?” Carolline threatened casually.
“…” Raymond was completely speechless, his face turning a liver-like color, silently swearing that he would never be so impulsive again. He’d rather give Carolline a red envelope than invite her out again; it was too embarrassing.
Carolline watched Raymond’s face and guessed his thoughts. Whatever, she didn’t care about being treated by him anyway, even if they had to split the bill later, it wouldn’t bother her.
Joyce Lopez was sitting with a friend next to Carolline and Raymond, listening to their conversation. The corner of her mouth lifted slightly. How was this bumpkin worthy of competing with her for Bryan Hawkins?
It seemed she had overestimated this woman.
