Chapter 418: Young Master Can’t Sleep
CHAPTER 418: CHAPTER 418: YOUNG MASTER CAN’T SLEEP
An Junxi knew that her parents hadn’t spent time with Ai Xi for a while, so she let her mom put the child to sleep. She sat at the bedside listening to the voice messages on her phone, finishing every word.
He’s always like this. When she’s angry, he apologizes, but never changes his mistakes.
Ten minutes passed without her replying, and Gu Yikun sent another text: "Honey, are you asleep? I can’t sleep."
Gu Yikun lay on the large bed; the room felt empty and terrifying without her presence.
Scenes from two years ago flooded his mind, and with a pleading tone, Gu Yikun said, "Honey, I was wrong to hide about Xiao Yang. I had my reasons. Tomorrow I’ll come to pick you up, and we can talk slowly. Okay?"
He kept staring at the phone screen, waiting for her reply, feeling anxious like a middle schooler in love.
An Junxi said, "Yi Ke, the most important thing between husband and wife is honesty. If I hadn’t asked, fine, but I asked you several times. You saw me constantly worrying, yet you didn’t tell me... I know you feared leaks complicating things, but don’t you trust me?"
Gu Yikun’s phone beeped with a voice message. He immediately hit play, listening to her accusations, and quickly replied, "Xi Xi, it’s not that I don’t trust you, I just didn’t want to worry you more."
An Junxi was tired; she didn’t want to communicate via phone or face-to-face, saying, "Go to bed early. We’ll talk in a couple of days."
She needed to be firm this time; otherwise, he’d make the same mistakes again.
As his wife, she wanted to share both good and bad news with him. Did he understand her intentions?
Gu Yikun sat up as soon as he heard "a couple of days," saying, "Honey, I don’t want to be without you for even one night, and you want two more days?"
"Honey, I’ll come tomorrow to pick you up. We’ll talk at home."
"Xi Xi, did you fall asleep?"
"Xi Xi, I promise I’ll tell you everything from now on, okay?"
"Honey, I’m serious, I’ll tell you everything from now on."
An Junxi didn’t listen to his voice messages anymore. She turned off her phone and went to sleep.
She couldn’t sleep without his embrace, but she had to endure for two days; otherwise, he wouldn’t take her words seriously.
The next morning, An Junxi got up early to make breakfast for Jin Xiu. The elderly woke up early, and Ai Xi’s baby also woke up with a set biological clock, saying, "I want to take my brother to school."
After breakfast, they all went downstairs to send Gu Jinxiu off. Xiao Liu was waiting in the car.
Gu Jinxiu said goodbye to his grandparents, while little Ai Xi waved, "Brother, be serious."
Gu Jinxiu hugged his sister, saying, "I will, brother."
After sending Gu Jinxiu to school, An Junxi accompanied her parents for a walk in the neighborhood. Little Ai Xi happily ran around in the unfamiliar surroundings like a joyful little bird.
An Junxi walked slowly with her parents behind, and Mrs. An said, "After Ai Xi’s birthday, your dad and I plan to return to Xin’an for ancestor worship, staying for a few days."
They had been away from Xin’an for too long and wanted to go back and visit.
An Junxi understood her parents’ longing for home, and said, "I’ll ask Yi Ke to arrange a few people to accompany you. When Ai Xi gets older, we’ll take her back to play."
Mr. An said, "Yi Ke arranging people..."
He was halfway through when Ai Xi, running ahead, stepped on a stone and fell.
The little girl fell to the ground, and An Junxi’s heart almost jumped out. She ran over, "Baby!"
Before she could reach her daughter, two men quickly appeared, picked Ai Xi up, and handed her to An Junxi, calling her, "Madam."
An Junxi checked her daughter’s hands and feet; her palms and knees were a bit swollen. "Baby, does it hurt?"
Ai Xi pouted, with tears welling up but not falling, and thanked the two men, "Thank you, Shu Xi."
The little girl was so cute that the two men spoke softly, "No need to thank us. Protecting you is our duty."
Mrs. An, heartbroken, took her granddaughter, "My baby, it hurts, doesn’t it?"
Ai Xi hugged her grandmother’s neck, her little face resting on her shoulder, "It hurts a little."
Mr. An said, "Ai Xi is just like Jun Xi when she was young, very brave."
An Junxi then asked the two men, "Did Yi Ke send you to follow me?"
Her first reaction was this, speaking in a stern tone, seemingly to hold them accountable.
The two men waved their hands, "Madam, we are..."
Mr. An explained for them, "They were arranged by Yi Ke to protect us in the neighborhood. This is Xiao Zhu and Xiao Zheng. Ever since we were kidnapped, Yi Ke arranged undercover bodyguards to protect us closely. Your mother and I took a while to get used to it."
An Junxi realized her reaction was too much, "Did Yi Ke ask you to protect my parents?"
Xiao Zheng said, "Not just us, there are sixteen of us in total. Living in different units in the neighborhood, we protect them 24/7, whether they’re grocery shopping or exercising in the morning. Usually, we don’t interfere with their lives unless there’s danger. You won’t see us often."
An Junxi didn’t know how to react; Yi Ke had indeed arranged a team of bodyguards to continuously protect her parents.
She started regretting if she had been too harsh to him last night.
Xiao Zhu said, "Last night, we received a call from the boss, saying Madam and the little miss are here. He asked us to watch out for Madam’s safety."
An Junxi said, "Got it, you guys go on with your work."
The two men stayed nearby, and Mrs. An said, "Your father and I never noticed anyone following us before. Yi Ke really cares. He’s worried about what happened before."
Mr. An added, "At first, I thought it was excessive, but Yi Ke’s status is special. With our families being in-laws, safety is a priority."
An Junxi hadn’t realized Yi Ke had done so much. He had only mentioned protecting her parents, but she didn’t know it involved such a team.
They went back upstairs, and An Junxi used warm water to clean Ai Xi’s hands. Aunt He called her, saying, "Jun Xi, the master stayed in the study all night without resting. Early this morning, he got a call from the company, and I think he’ll be busy all day. Don’t be mad at him; he’s under a lot of pressure."
"Did he not rest last night?"
"The master couldn’t sleep."
An Junxi felt sorry for him, saying, "I understand, we’ll return by noon."
She hung up and started packing, "Daddy, Mommy, I’ll take Ai Xi back first."
She brought her daughter home, and Aunt He told her, "The master didn’t eat breakfast and went out."
An Junxi felt both sorry and angry; was Gu Yikun intentionally making her worry?
She asked Aunt He to take care of Ai Xi, went upstairs to change clothes, came down to pack some food, and said, "I’ll go to the company."
Ai Xi wanted to go with her, but An Junxi said, "Baby, wait for mommy at home."
