CHAPTER 93: CHAPTER 93 HER HELPLESSNESS

Mr. An was originally in good spirits, but soon after getting in the car, he started rambling, holding An Junxi’s hand and constantly talking about her childhood. An Junxi felt a sense of fear and urgently said to Officer Gao, "Officer Gao, please hurry up!"

"Understood."

Officer Gao knew the seriousness of the situation; after all, this was President Gu’s father-in-law!

Two police cars, sirens blaring, sped towards the hospital unimpeded.

Officer Gao contacted the hospital en route, roughly explaining the condition of the injured person. By the time the police car arrived at the emergency entrance of the hospital, medical personnel were already waiting.

When they got out of the car, Mr. An was already unconscious. Mrs. An fainted in shock upon seeing her husband in such a state. Several doctors transferred them to hospital beds and pushed them towards the emergency room. An Junxi’s legs felt weak; she held onto Gong Xiaoyu’s arm and followed behind. The emergency room doors closed, and a nurse stopped them outside, "Family members, please wait here."

With tears streaming down, An Junxi pleaded to the nurse, "Please do everything to save my dad."

"We will do our best. Family members, please remain calm and patient." The nurse then walked inside.

Exhausted, An Junxi sat on a chair. Gong Xiaoyu held her hand tightly, "Jun Xi, your dad will be fine."

They waited for quite a while. Mrs. An was pushed out of the emergency room. An Junxi hurried forward, "Doctor, how are my parents?"

The responsible doctor said, "Your mother is overly shocked and has a minor fracture in her right calf. It’s generally not serious. She can be moved to an ordinary ward for glucose injection and needs to be observed for a few days. As for your dad, we have to wait for the examination results."

An Junxi became more fearful, "Doctor, is my dad very serious?"

The doctor hesitated and nodded, "The patient did not receive timely medical attention and has lost a lot of blood. His heartbeat is very weak now, and the attending doctor is doing everything to revive him. We will have the examination results in an hour. Hopefully, there is no intracerebral hemorrhage; otherwise, it will be quite complicated."

Mr. An’s hospital bed was then pushed out and transferred to the operating room. An Junxi saw her father’s wound had been re-bandaged, and his face was terribly pale.

Several nurses hurried into the operating room with blood packs. The attending doctor strode out and instructed his assistant, "Prepare for blood transfusion immediately!" Everyone followed into the operating room, and as the doors closed, the red light at the entrance of the operating room lit up.

An Junxi gripped Gong Xiaoyu’s hand tightly. The responsible doctor suggested she wait in her mother’s ward and then entered the operating room.

Gong Xiaoyu also became fearful, praying silently for Mr. An’s safe recovery.

An Junxi felt every second like an eternity. She was exhausted, wondering what she would do if anything happened to her dad.

Finally, the red light outside the operating room dimmed, and the doors opened. The attending doctor walked out and asked, "Who is the patient’s family member?"

An Junxi stepped forward, "Doctor, I am the patient’s daughter."

The attending doctor looked at the young girl and said, "We have administered the blood transfusion, and the patient’s indicators are nearing normal. The CT results show slight cerebral hemorrhage. A follow-up check will be needed after twenty-four hours. If there is no further intracerebral hemorrhage, then there won’t be a big problem. Otherwise, surgery will be required, which carries considerable risk. It’s hard to say for sure now."

"Doctor, what can I do now?" An Junxi felt helpless, as if the sky was falling.

"You should go and complete the patient’s admission procedures and prepare necessary things for the hospital stay. The patient will be transferred to the intensive care unit soon, and family members will need to stay overnight."

Officer Gao quickly said, "Mrs. Gu, I’ll handle the procedures."

An Junxi handed him her ID card and social security card along with other documents. "Thank you so much." She couldn’t manage so many things right now.

The doctor saw several police officers accompanying the family and wondered why they weren’t arranged to go to a military hospital if they were high-ranking officials’ relatives.

He didn’t ask too much about the patient’s private matters but guided An Junxi on how to care for the patient before leaving.

An Junxi and Gong Xiaoyu went to see Mrs. An first. Seeing her mother sleeping peacefully, they headed to the intensive care unit. Mr. An’s head and chest were covered with monitoring devices, and his nose was equipped with an oxygen supply. The formerly healthy and tall patriarch now seemed so fragile.

An Junxi sat by the bed, silently with tears streaming down. Her dad had truly aged.

After sitting for a while, she remembered Gong Xiaoyu was pregnant. She wiped her tears and said, "Senior, you should go to a nearby hotel to rest. Make sure to eat something. You have a baby now."

"How can I leave you alone here? I’m fine. Don’t worry about me."

"Senior, if you don’t want me to worry, please go to the hotel and rest. Otherwise, I won’t be able to sleep peacefully all night."

"... Okay, I’ll come back first thing in the morning."

"Yeah, make sure you eat something." An Junxi asked the police officers to help escort Gong Xiaoyu to a hotel.

Officer Gao completed the admission procedures and handed various documents to An Junxi. In the corridor, he said to her, "Mrs. Gu, your uncle’s actions already constitute criminal injury. Although it’s not my place to comment on family matters, I should remind you that if you wish to resolve the dispute through legal proceedings, it’s crucial to start gathering evidence now. Your father’s injury certificates and other relevant documents are essential. If you need to report this to the police, we can bring the individual to the Xinan Police Station for investigation."

An Junxi’s eyes showed a cold determination. She tightly clenched her fist, "Thank you, Officer Gao, I understand."

"What about President Gu?"

"I’ll speak with my husband. You guys must be tired today, you can go back now."

Officer Gao said, "We’ll leave two officers here to assist you if necessary."

"That works."

An Junxi returned to the ward and sat down. Her hand brushed against her bag, and her phone vibrated slightly inside. She realized Gu Yikun must have called her.

She took out her phone and saw Gu Yikun’s name on the screen. Her tears flowed again.

She had never felt so fragile, longing for him to be by her side.

An Junxi walked to the terrace of the corridor, and answered the call, choking up as she called his name, "Yi Ke."

Gu Yikun had called An Junxi several times without any response. He was worried and was about to contact the local police chief when the call finally went through.

He hadn’t relaxed for a moment before hearing her crying on the other end. His heart felt like it was being torn apart. "Don’t cry. Tell me what’s going on?"

An Junxi weakly sat crouched on the ground, crying too hard to speak. After a long while, she stammered, "My dad is injured and in the hospital. He’s in the intensive care unit, and we won’t know the outcome until tomorrow. Yi Ke, I’m so scared."

Gu Yikun could imagine her helplessness. His heart was in agony, but he softly comforted her, "Don’t be scared. I’m coming over now. Trust me, I’ll ensure your dad gets the best medical support. Everything will be fine."

Gu Yikun’s calm voice soothed An Junxi a bit. She said, "Yi Ke, I really want to see you."
