CHAPTER 104: MOUTHWATERING DISHES

Christian kissed me once more, but this time, there was more passion behind it.

The surroundings blurred around me. I could only focus on him and the ever-growing desire inside of me.

Just as my body began to move on its own, Christian pulled away. I looked at him with my misty eyes, sad that the kiss ended so quickly.

"Here are your dishes, please enjoy."

The waitress walked over with a large tray of delicious food.

I quickly averted my gaze, understanding why Christian suddenly pulled away. As hard as I tried, I couldn’t hold back my embarrassment and felt my face turn red.

Christian looked over and saw this scene. Letting out a low chuckle, he leaned over to my ear.

"You’re usually so bold when we’re alone. Why are you shy now?"

I knew that he was only teasing me, but his words only made my face turn even more crimson. My heart raced inside my chest at the thought of the ’bold’ moments he just mentioned.

In order to save myself from further embarrassment, I turned my attention to the food.

"L..let’s eat! The food will get cold otherwise!" I exclaimed, suddenly.

Christian pulled away and let out another chuckle, "Yes, you’re right. Let’s eat before the food gets cold. There’s plenty of time for other things."

I could feel his gaze remain on me while I turned to look at the spread of dishes out in front of me.

The pastries were closest to me on the table, and I could clearly smell their sweet and buttery scent. The croissants were flaky and golden brown, with steam still rising from them. My mouth watered just from looking at them.

Next was a spring quiche. It was baked with a beautiful golden crust with plenty of different herbs like dill, parsley, and green onion. The egg and cheese mixture caused it to glisten under the warm light of the sun.

I couldn’t help myself any longer and cut myself a slice, placing it on my plate. Christian followed my lead and helped himself to a slice of quiche as well.

"I’m so glad you ordered this. It was the main item on the menu that drew my attention," he smiled, taking his first bite.

"If you wanted it, why didn’t you say something? I thought you didn’t know what to order so you let me take care of it," I asked with a giggle.

Christian didn’t reply, only smiled at my happy expression.

Could it be that he let me order so that I didn’t have to make a decision and could order everything I wanted without feeling guilty?

His fork continued to break off pieces of the quiche with increasing speed.

It must be delicious.

I didn’t wait any longer and also took a bite. Instantly, my mouth was filled with a fresh and savory flavor. The soft egg, cheese, and herb complemented the flaky crust, creating a wonderfully balanced medley of flavors and textures.

After finishing the slice of quiche, I reached over to try the hot tea I ordered. It was a black breakfast blend and had a strong yet refreshing flavor.

Christian continued to cut slices of the quiche while I decided to try something else. The next dish that called out to me was the Belgian waffles, which were topped with whipped cream and freshly cut fruits.

The moment I took a bite, the fluffy waffle practically melted in my mouth. The warm vanilla taste from the waffle paired perfectly with the sweetness of the strawberries.

"Christian, this is so good! I’m afraid I won’t have enough room to try everything!"

I looked around the table, deciding on what to prioritize eating next. The piece of waffle I ate was on the larger side, and I already felt myself getting full.

Christian dedicated himself to the quiche, not bothering to try anything else.

If he’s as dedicated to his woman as he is to that quiche, then he’s a real man.

There were so many tantalizing options that I had a hard time choosing whether I wanted to try the omelette next or the Eggs Benedict.

I finally gave in and got a piece of both. The omelette was fluffy and savory, filled with mushrooms, spinach, onions, and cheese. While the Eggs Benedict had a very classic taste with its Hollandaise sauce.

My stomach was full after having a bit of each dish, yet the untouched beautiful pastries looked at me teasingly.

"Did you like it?" I asked, looking over at Christian’s empty plate.

He ended up eating the entire quiche, not leaving a single crumb.

"Yes, very. I’d say one of my favorites outside of my mother’s," he smiled.

"Oh? Did your mother cook well?" I asked, slightly nervous that I was asking too much. I was nervous that Christian’s mood would be ruined if we talked about his mother, but thankfully, it didn’t seem to be that way.

He nodded with a smile, "While I won’t claim that her cooking was anything fancy, to me it tasted the best."

Seeing that he was okay with talking about her, I continued, "What sort of things did she usually make?"

Christian thought for a moment, taking a sip of his coffee, "Let’s see. It was usually always something simple, like soup, basic pasta, or baked dishes--like baked chicken and rice. We were quite poor back then, so she usually cooked using cheaper ingredients."

While what he said held a tinge of sadness, he was smiling as he recalled the memories.

He was indeed very close to his mother. I wish I could have met her..

We continued to chat about the various dishes and nostalgic tastes he had when he was growing up. The atmosphere was warm, and I felt like I knew him a little better afterwards.

"Shall we head back to the office? I’m not sure what’s left on your schedule today, Miss Busy Bee," he said after finishing his coffee.

"Sure! The only thing I have left to do is send out the notice to the auction house about the event! It’s already written out and the contract is ready, I’m just waiting on your mark," I replied.

After touching base with Yulia earlier, I was confident that everything was ahead of schedule. Before he replied, I glanced over shyly, "Will you attend the event?"

He leaned over and kissed the side of my face, right beside my ear, "I wouldn’t miss it for the world."

His hands made their way around my waist before he pulled me over to his side.

"Now let’s go back so I can have my dessert."
