Secretly Mine
Chapter 108: Last Minute Notice
CHAPTER 108: LAST MINUTE NOTICE
The next few days went by in a flash. Thankfully, Karl seemed too busy to visit, so my life was rather peaceful.
Today was a special day for me, it was finally the day that I could send the Moresi auction house the notice about hosting the Sophia season launch event. In my opinion, it was an extremely last-minute notice, but since Christian asked for it to be done this way, that’s how it played out.
"You’re sure I can send it out today?" I asked Christian once more. My mouse cursor was hovering over the send email button, waiting for the confirmation.
Christian smiled, "Yes, go ahead. We still need to give them enough notice so that the season launch won’t be an entire flop. Send out the invitations to all of the upper circle, too."
Sending the invitations out to an event where the venue didn’t even confirm hosting it was very risky.
He must be confident because he knows that my father wouldn’t miss out on this opportunity even if the event was scheduled for the following day.
I clicked the ’send’ button, sending the notice along with the prewritten invitations from a generic email address. If my parents found out that I was heading the Sophia season launch, they would be so angry, I wouldn’t even know what they’d do.
"Done!" I smiled.
Christian placed the documents he was holding on the coffee table in front of him and walked over to my side.
"Congratulations on setting up your first event. I can’t wait to see what you came up with. Now tell me, how do you want to be rewarded?" he breathed into my ear.
My breath hitched. His words tickled my ear as the tingling spread throughout my body. I turned to look up at him with my already misty eyes.
"I think you know what I want," I replied, brushing my nose against his cheek.
The next moment, Christian lifted me off the ground and carried me into his office, towards his hidden bedroom.
-
He ’rewarded’ me until it was time to go home. By the time I stepped out of his office, my legs were all wobbly, and it was hard to even take a step forward.
"Sorry, babe, I couldn’t help myself," he smiled, helping me over to the elevator. I’ll visit you this weekend."
I smiled, "I look forward to your visit."
Christian walked me over to the car, opening the door before the driver had a chance.
"Please tell your sister that I’ll come to see her this weekend. Have a good evening," he said before turning around and heading back inside the office building.
"The young master must be very fond of the eldest Miss," the driver commented.
"Mhm, he sure is," I replied, fighting back a big smile.
-
As I got home, the first thing I noticed was my father’s cold attitude. After our last argument, he became even more distant towards me.
He glanced at me without saying anything and turned to leave the room.
What now?
Though his attitude bothered me, there was nothing I could do about it. Instead of wasting my time trying to figure out why he was acting off, I went to my room to get changed.
Half an hour later, the maid came by to tell me that dinner was ready and that I should make my way over to the dining room.
Since no guests were expected today, I dressed more casually, wearing a simple lilac-colored dress and no jewelry. After tossing Karl’s ring into my jewelry box, I refused to open it, opting to forgo all jewelry just so I wouldn’t have to see it.
The moment I arrived in the dining room, I noticed the heavy atmosphere. Everyone was sitting quietly and looking at my father, who looked like he was about to break something.
Even my mother looked confused about why he was acting like this. She couldn’t tolerate the heavy atmosphere any longer and finally asked the question we all wanted to know.
"Honey, what’s wrong? You look displeased, did something happen at work?" she asked in her most gentle voice.
He glanced over at her with a cold look, then finally took in a deep breath. "I really don’t understand him. Sometimes I feel like he’s toying with me!"
"Who is?" she asked, surprised.
"Christian! His company just sent over the contract for the Sophia season launch event!" my father stammered.
My mother looked at him and clasped her hands together, "Isn’t that good news? The Sophia season launch event is one that everyone in the upper circle looks forward to!"
Hanging his head, "Yes, except the date is for next Friday. Exactly one week from today. ONE WEEK!" he said, yelling his last words.
She sank back into her chair. "What were they thinking? Only giving a week’s notice on something this big? Will we have enough time to set everything up?" she asked.
My father slammed his fists on the dining table, causing the dishes and silverware to clink. "I don’t know! This was so unexpected that I don’t know if we’ll have time. That and the legal troubles with Karl...ugh!"
He was so angry by the end that he suddenly stood up and stormed out of the dining room. My mother was so startled by his attitude that she stood up and followed behind him.
"You guys go ahead and eat. I’ll go speak to your father," she said as she walked out of the room.
The rest of us sat awkwardly around the table. It was only when Anthony began to fill his plate with food that the rest of us followed his lead and began to eat in silence.
"Surely, Christian must have his reasons for waiting so late to notify us. If anything, the person in charge of the event must’ve been incompetent and couldn’t manage basic time management," Morgan said, breaking the silence.
I glanced at her, shaking my head. Even without knowing it, she still manages to find a way to badmouth me.
"Do you think we’ll be able to set up the event in time? We still have a week, right? It should be possible," I said, acting as if I had nothing to do with it.
"Of course we will. We’re not the most successful auction house for nothing. In fact, I’m not sure why Father reacted so strongly. We’ve done a few events that were last minute, and he’s never been so shaken before," replied Morgan.
Anthony stayed quiet, only focusing on eating as much as he could before our mother came back.
If that’s the case, then why is Father so frustrated?
