Seven Sins System Chapter 449. Never Get Bored

-          Bam!

My melancholic thought shattered as the door to the infirmary swung open with a loud bang.

“YOOO, doc!” Barry’s voice boomed through the room. His tone was so loud and vibrant that it felt like it could wake the dead without the need for necromancy.

Behind him, his two close friends, Ion and Darren, wore grimaces that spoke volumes about their feelings toward Barry's entrance.

As usual, they sauntered into the infirmary as if it were their favorite hangout spot. Well, I supposed it was, ever since I started working here.

I didn’t bother changing my sitting posture or reacting with surprise. Their antics had become a routine part of my day.

Instead, I gave them a dry smile. “Can you come in more normally? This is the infirmary. What if someone is here?”

Darren chimed in as he entered.

“I agree with what Dr. Allen said. But an injured student at an hour like this? Pfft! That’s impossible.”

Barry laughed, clapping Darren on the back. “See, Doc? Even Darren agrees with me. We’re just here to keep you company. Make sure you don’t get bored.”

I rolled my eyes but couldn’t suppress a small smile. “Getting injured might be rare, but we can’t be sure about illnesses,” I stated, trying to maintain some semblance of professionalism.

Ion snickered. “Illnesses, huh? Like the one where you suddenly lose all sense of decorum and start greeting your mentor by shouting?” He nudged Barry, who just grinned wider.

Barry shrugged, unbothered by the gentle ribbing. “Hey, we gotta keep the energy up, right? Besides, you love our visits, Doc. Admit it,” he said, plopping down on one of the beds and stretching out comfortably.

I sighed, unable to keep the smile from tugging at my lips. “If by ‘love,’ you mean tolerate because I have no choice, then sure, let’s go with that.”

Ion chuckled, his fox ears twitching with amusement. “See, you do love us. You’d be bored out of your mind without our sparkling company.”

“Sparkling is one word for it,” I replied, shaking my head with a mixture of amusement and exasperation. “Though I can think of a few others that might be more accurate. Like annoying.”

Barry laughed, a loud, infectious sound that filled the room. “Come on, Doc, you know you’d miss us if we stopped coming around.”

“Miss the noise, maybe,” I muttered, but the corner of my mouth twitched upward in a reluctant smile.

Darren leaned against the wall and crossed his arms. “So, what’s the latest, Doc? Any exciting events or are we just here to keep you entertained?” From his voice, I bet he expected something.

I leaned back in my chair, letting the banter wash over me. “It’s been quiet, thankfully. No medical emergencies, which is how I prefer it.”

The trio glanced at each other as if they were communicating through their gazes. I frowned as I could guess they were plotting something.

Ion nodded. “Quiet is good. It means you get to hang out with us more.”

“Lucky me,” I said dryly, but there was no real irritation in my voice. Despite their antics, they had grown on me, these three troublemakers.

As if on cue, they pulled out chairs and sat around me, surrounding me in a semicircle as if to ensure I couldn’t escape. I gave them a flat stare, fully aware of the interrogation that was about to commence.

They leaned towards me, elbows on the chair handles, closed hands on their chins, looking like three professional investigators ready to extract every bit of information.

“So…” Darren began, his tone grave. “Tell us what that vampire was doing here?” he asked without preamble.

“Yeah, the red-haired vampire. We’ve never seen her before. Is she related to Miss Katrina and Miss Penelope?” Ion added, his fox ears twitching with curiosity.

Barry chimed in, “She’s hot and gave off this mature, intimidating aura though.”

His comment earned him simultaneous glances of annoyance from Darren and Ion.

“I’m just telling you my thoughts,” Barry defended himself, raising his hands in mock surrender. “Can’t a guy appreciate the scenery?”

I sighed, running a hand through my hair. “If you’re so curious, just ask her yourself,” I said, my tone light but evasive.

Darren’s eyes narrowed. “You’re being suspiciously vague, Doc. What’s going on?”

Ion nodded in agreement. “Yeah, usually you’re more open with us. This feels different.”

Ion’s words almost made me laugh since they didn’t know anything about my true nature or my connection to Red.

But seeing their earnest curiosity, I decided to throw them a bone, just a sprinkle of the truth. “She’s Miss Katrina and Penelope’s mother. We were talking about my job,” I said simply, hoping that would be enough to satisfy them.

Instead of backing off, they leaned in closer, their faces more serious than ever.

“What were you talking about?” Darren asked, his tone demanding.

“Is there a problem with your work?” Ion added, his fox ears perking up with concern.

“Is she going to fire you?” Barry whined, his voice filled with worry.

His dramatic outburst made Darren and Ion turn to him.

“I need to prepare myself for the worst,” Barry defended himself, raising his hands in mock surrender.

I shook my head, trying to suppress a smile. “Relax, Barry. No one’s getting fired. We were just discussing some changes in the work schedule and responsibilities. Nothing to worry about.”
