Shadow and Light: The Bride Who Clicks Her Way to Love
Chapter 192 - 194: Calls Back and Forth
CHAPTER 192: CHAPTER 194: CALLS BACK AND FORTH
Mrs. Gui stayed by her side, comforting her, "Young madam, madam is fortunate and will be protected by fate, nothing will happen to her."
Su Xingyu’s delicate brows knitted slightly, and the scene of Du Shuxian tumbling down the stairs repeatedly flashed in her mind. Du Shuxian had hit her head first and immediately fell unconscious upon hitting the ground. Su Xingyu was very worried whether she could be saved, and if she was saved, whether there would be any sequelae. She glanced at the clock on the wall; it had been two hours since Du Shuxian was taken into the operating room.
"Where’s my phone?" She asked Mrs. Gui, "I’ll call Lu Shifeng."
Mrs. Gui hesitated a bit, "Young madam, why don’t you call the old master or the old madam? Once, madam had acute enteritis and was hospitalized, and the young master was on a business trip outside. The family called him, and not only did he not rush back, but he scolded the family instead."
Su Xingyu was stunned: "Scolded for what?"
Mrs. Gui said, "He scolded the family for not knowing the severity and urgency. Madam had doctors to take care of her, and there was nothing he could do even if he returned home, it would just interfere with his business there." As Mrs. Gui spoke, she sighed inwardly. It was madam’s own fault for teaching the young master this way since childhood. When he was little, she once left him outside in the snowy weather, and now, it’s karma.
Su Xingyu was angry, "How can he be so heartless!"
Isn’t he heartless indeed? Mrs. Gui gave a bitter smile, but kept her head down, not daring to say anything more; after all, this was a matter of the family.
Su Xingyu thought for a moment and decided to ask Mrs. Gui for her purse to get her phone, "Don’t try to talk me out of it, regardless of what you say, I’m calling Lu Shifeng. His biological mother is in the hospital undergoing surgery!" Even though she disliked Du Shuxian a lot, she felt pity for her at this moment, having raised such a cold and unfeeling son.
She dialed Lu Shifeng’s number, but no one answered.
She dialed again, still no one answered.
She paused and asked Mrs. Gui, "Is it always this hard to reach his phone?"
Though they were husband and wife, she rarely called Lu Shifeng.
Mrs. Gui shook her head, "No, the young master’s phone is available 24 hours. If it’s not reachable, there must be a specific situation, like being in a setting where it’s inconvenient to answer calls or perhaps on a plane."
Su Xingyu then called Xie Jian, "Xie Jian, are you with Lu Shifeng? What is he doing? Is it convenient for him to answer the phone?"
Xie Jian responded quickly, "Madam, the boss is on a business trip with Miss Zhuang to the Hanyu Research Center in Y City. Hanyu is a secure base with signal blocking from the outside world. If you want to contact him, you can call the landline number over there."
He reported a long sequence of numbers to her.
Su Xingyu asked Mrs. Gui to take out the eyebrow pencil from her purse and jot down the number on a napkin. As she noted the number, she was unable to prevent her thoughts from drifting to why it was Zhuang Heng who was accompanying him on the business trip. A faint sense of pricking pain arose in her heart, as though being unwittingly pierced by a thousand tiny needles. She didn’t know what this feeling was, only that it was unpleasant.
However, at this moment, she couldn’t allow herself to think too much.
She ended the call with Xie Jian and dialed the landline number, which was answered quickly this time.
On the other end, the receptionist at Hanyu Research Center had a sweet voice, "Miss Su, is that you? Please hold on for a moment."
After about half a minute, the receptionist returned to the line, "I’m sorry, Miss Su, Miss Zhuang by Mr. Lu’s side said he’s currently unavailable to take calls. You should try again in two hours."
The piercing feeling returned.
Su Xingyu suppressed the discomfort in her heart and asked, "Why do I need to go through Zhuang Heng to reach Lu Shifeng?"
The receptionist explained, "Miss Su, you may not know, but many people wish to contact Mr. Lu every day, and they must be screened by people around him before the call is connected. Otherwise, he’d be too busy just answering calls throughout the day."
Su Xingyu felt a wave of frustration, "Is he really busy?"
The receptionist became somewhat impatient, "Yes, really busy. You shouldn’t waste your time; try calling in two hours."
Two hours later? What if Zhuang Heng blocks her again saying he’s busy?
Having dealt with that woman many times, Su Xingyu now believed Zhuang Heng was capable of anything.
She was unwilling to give up. So what if Zhuang Heng tried to prevent her from contacting Lu Shifeng? She was determined to get through! Hanyu Research Center...
The name seemed somewhat familiar? Su Xingyu frowned and contemplated for a moment, then she remembered—Leng Fei! The person from Hanyu Research Center who helped her at the street photography competition finals!
She immediately dialed Hanyu’s number again, this time stating she wanted to speak with Leng Fei.
Leng Fei wasn’t as difficult to reach as Lu Shifeng, and the call connected quickly, "Su Xingyu? Make it quick, I’m busy."
Su Xingyu was relieved he hadn’t forgotten her and promptly got to the point, "I need to speak with Lu Shifeng. Can you help me get him on the phone?"
Leng Fei replied, "That’s the responsibility of his accompanying personnel. You should try Zhuang Heng."
"I have a grudge against Zhuang Heng!" In her hurry, Su Xingyu couldn’t care about restraining herself, "Leng Fei, can you see if he’s busy? If not, ask him to answer my call! Zhuang Heng definitely will not relay my message."
Leng Fei’s tone softened a bit, "What’s the matter? I’ll pass along the message."
Considering Lu Shifeng’s distinguished status, many people found various excuses to reach him; there were certainly not less than a thousand. Who knew if Su Xingyu truly had a matter or just wanted to disturb Lu Shifeng? There were too many frivolous calls, and if each were connected directly to Lu Shifeng, what would be the result? Now, Leng Fei was willing to pass along the message, already showing a great favor—purely because Lu Shifeng once ordered him to assist this girl, so he guessed this girl might have some real connection with Lu Shifeng.
Su Xingyu resigned herself and relayed the situation, "Lu Shifeng’s mother fell down the stairs and is currently undergoing surgery in the hospital. She might not be in immediate danger, but the overall condition is uncertain. Please inform him of this, thank you."
Whether Lu Shifeng decided to return was his business once informed.
Su Xingyu sighed inwardly and hung up the phone.
On the other side, Leng Fei was surprised—what was the relationship between this girl and Lu Shifeng, how did she know of his mother’s condition? Not daring to neglect, he went to Lu Shifeng’s office and, seeing him not busy, briefly reported the matter.
Back at S City Hospital, Su Xingyu waited another three hours before finally seeing Du Shuxian being wheeled out of the operating room.
"Doctor, how is she?" Su Xingyu approached and asked.
"Mrs. Lu hit her head in the fall, causing internal bleeding and increased intracranial pressure. We performed a craniotomy, and for now, she’s out of danger. With proper recovery, there shouldn’t be any lasting complications," the doctor explained.
Only then did Su Xingyu breathe a long sigh of relief. A craniotomy was indeed dangerous, but fortunately, the result was good.
As her tension relaxed, the pain in her lower abdomen returned faintly. Her menstrual period hadn’t ended yet, coupled with the shock from Du Shuxian, making her face turn pale with pain.
