CHAPTER 226: CHAPTER 228: THE MATRIARCH MEDIATES

She scrolled through her phone contacts, looking for the Lu family’s phone numbers, but after going through them, she realized she only had Mrs. Lu’s number saved.

She hesitated for a moment, but finally called Mrs. Lu: "Grandma, where are you now?"

The kind voice of Mrs. Lu came from the other end of the phone: "I was just about to call you. Xingyu, aren’t you supposed to be in the medical ward on the 16th floor? Why don’t I see you?"

Su Xingyu was taken aback: "You went to find me?"

"I’m right at your bedside," Mrs. Lu said with a hint of displeasure in her voice. "This child, the doctor said your organs were injured and there’s a fracture. Why are you running around?"

Suddenly, Su Xingyu felt a tingling in her nose. She thought everyone would be watching over Lu Shifeng, and not a single person cared about her. To her surprise, Mrs. Lu, at such an old age, actually went up to the 16th floor specifically to check on her granddaughter-in-law, ignoring her own grandson. She held back her tears and replied softly, "I’m outside the corridor of Lu Shifeng’s operating room."

Mrs. Lu was also taken aback, then said tenderly, "Good child." She suddenly understood why Su Xingyu asked where she was first, rather than explaining what was going on. Perhaps Su Xingyu wasn’t sure if the Lu family kept her informed about the plane accident, and maybe the rest of the family came without telling her. Su Xingyu didn’t want to worry her.

Such a thoughtful and considerate child.

Mrs. Lu asked her with concern, "Why are you still in the corridor? Did you see your grandfather and the others?"

Su Xingyu said, "No. The security outside the corridor stopped me, and I couldn’t prove my identity, so they didn’t let me in."

Mrs. Lu instructed her to wait there and said she would come over immediately to take her inside.

Su Xingyu hung up the phone and waited patiently where she was. Before Mrs. Lu arrived, she saw the corridor door open, and Zhuang Heng, who had just gone in a short time ago, walked out carrying her delicate handbag, her high heels clicking on the floor. Seeing Su Xingyu, she turned her head and gave her a somewhat venomous glare.

Su Xingyu had no intention of fighting with her and only asked, "Why did you come out so quickly? Is Lu Shifeng alright?"

Zhuang Heng sneered, "Whether he’s alright or not doesn’t concern you, right? Su Xingyu, you’re really clever and cunning, managing to ingratiate yourself with the Lu family elders, turning them all in your favor! Stop pretending, don’t you know how I came out? But just watch, someone like you who’s nothing more than a mistress will never become Shifeng’s wife!"

Finished speaking, she turned her head and walked away on her pointed high heels.

Su Xingyu was truly bewildered, wondering why Zhuang Heng went in arrogant and proud but came out somewhat flustered and exasperated.

While pondering this, the crowd waiting outside the corridor suddenly became agitated.

She turned to see several men who looked like bodyguards escorting an elderly lady through the crowd: "Make way, please, everyone make way." Though the tone was polite, their attitude was firm.

The elderly lady had silver hair and wore an elegant, simple outfit with noble demeanor. Where she walked, the crowd that initially complained about the bodyguards’ actions quieted down, as if even uttering a word of complaint would be disrespectful to her. Mrs. Lu arrived in front of Su Xingyu and smiled, "Waited long, child?"

Su Xingyu also smiled, feeling a bit embarrassed: "No, not long."

"How is your health?" Mrs. Lu examined her from head to toe, asking with concern.

"The doctor said that proper injections, medication, and rest will make me alright," Su Xingyu felt moved again and said, "Thank you for being so concerned about me."

Mrs. Lu affectionately said, "Your grandfather and others are no longer around, who else in this world would care about you if not me? As for Shifeng, alas..."

Speaking of her grandson, Mrs. Lu shook her head and sighed.

Su Xingyu recalled the events on the plane and whispered, "He’s doing fine."

Mrs. Lu was astonished again, then smiled, "Good, that’s good."

She gently held Su Xingyu’s hand and kindly spoke to the security guard standing in the hallway: "Open the door, we need to go inside."

The security guard was surprised, glancing at Su Xingyu. So, this young woman was indeed here to see Mr. Lu? She actually knew Mrs. Lu! And they seemed very familiar. Oh no... would he be punished for speaking rudely to her earlier? He quickly opened the door for them and repeatedly apologized to Su Xingyu: "Miss, I’m really sorry, it was a misunderstanding before, it was a misunderstanding."

Su Xingyu said, "It’s alright." She supported Mrs. Lu as they walked together into the hallway.

The door closed behind them.

It was only then Mrs. Lu asked Su Xingyu, "What happened, did you have a conflict with that person?"

Su Xingyu shook her head, "I wouldn’t say conflict. He didn’t know my identity just now and didn’t let me in. By the way," she thought about it and decided to tell Mrs. Lu, "I saw Zhuang Heng go in earlier, the young lady from Zhuang’s Cosmetics, and now the chief photographer at Fengren. She should’ve been visiting Lu Shifeng, but she walked out angrily after just a few minutes."

"Zhuang Heng? I know her." Mrs. Lu said, then glanced at her playfully, "What, are you jealous?"

"Grandma!" Su Xingyu blushed, "Lu Shifeng is still in surgery, and you have the mood to joke with me."

Seeing her anxious expression, Mrs. Lu chuckled softly, "You don’t have to worry too much about Shifeng. I asked the doctor who treated him urgently in the ambulance; he didn’t injure his spinal nerves or any vital organs, no life-threatening injuries, nothing serious. It’s just the blood loss looked terrifying. As for Zhuang Heng, it was your grandfather who drove her away."

Su Xingyu was stunned: "Grandfather drove her away?"

Mrs. Lu said: "What’s the dignity of that here? It’s clear what that daughter of the Zhuang Family is thinking, and I know Shuxian has been secretly trying to match her with Lu Shifeng. But it was one thing when Lu Shifeng wasn’t married, and now that he’s married, especially to my late friend’s granddaughter, I simply can’t stand by."

Hearing this, Su Xingyu felt even more grateful: "Thank you."

"Good child, no need to thank me. You and Shifeng living well together is the best thanks to me."

While they were talking, they reached the outside of the operating room, where they found Mr. Lu, Du Shuxian, and several family members.

Seeing Su Xingyu and Mrs. Lu hand in hand, Du Shuxian’s expression changed slightly and she greeted them with a smiling face, "Mom."

Mr. Lu also stepped forward and took Mrs. Lu’s arm from Su Xingyu, helping her to a nearby bench to sit down with concern: "Aluo, are you okay? Not tired?"

Now, Su Xingyu finally had the chance to greet everyone: "Grandfather, Mother." She then greeted the other family members one by one.
