Sharing Dreams with My Bestie’s Cousin
Chapter 248 - 248 In dreams meet him again
Chapter 248: In dreams, meet him again Chapter 248: In dreams, meet him again Nian Xun’s visit to Fenghui Garden this time was a bit longer than usual.
During his stay, he accompanied Wen Zhi in feeding fish, playing the piano, and even discussed a new book by a famous foreign writer with her. Wen Zhi was very interested and earnestly requested that Nian Xun bring her the new book the next time he came to visit.
Nian Xun agreed.
Wen Zhi beamed with joy, “Nian Xun, you are really good to me.”
Nian Xun was checking messages on his phone. After reading them, he sent a reply and looked back up at Wen Zhi, “Someone used to be even better to you.”
Wen Zhi asked curiously, “Who?”
Nian Xun didn’t say who it was because once he started, there would be no end, and today he had already made an exception by spending a lot of time with Wen Zhi. Now it was time for him to leave.
Wen Zhi could tell that Nian Xun was preparing to leave, so she mustered the courage to say, “Nian Xun, could you stay for dinner before you go?”
“No, I won’t eat.”
Nian Xun took his windbreaker from Aunt Xu, draped it over his arm, but did not plan to wear it just yet, “I’ll come again to keep you company next time.”
Wen Zhi followed him to the door, “When is ‘next time’?”
Nian Xun didn’t look back, “I’m not sure. I’ll see after I’m done with work.”
Wen Zhi was full of reluctance, “Why are you always so busy?”
By this time, Nian Xun had already walked into the courtyard.
Upon hearing her words, he finally stopped and turned around; at that moment, Wen Zhi was leaning against the doorframe, looking at him with an expression full of reluctance.
Such a gaze could easily soften one’s heart, and for a moment, it seemed Nian Xun was no exception.
He felt an unsettling feeling inside and blurted out an impulsive comment, “Then I’ll come again tomorrow.”
Wen Zhi’s face erupted with joy, “Really?”
After Nian Xun had calmed down, he thought about taking back what he’d just said, but when he met Wen Zhi’s expectant eyes, he nodded, “Mhm, really.”
Wen Zhi was overjoyed, quickly stepping down the stairs to approach Nian Xun, “Then…”
Nian Xun quietly watched her, waiting for her to continue.
After hesitating for a long time, Wen Zhi finally asked the question that had been pent up in her heart, “You said that if I agree to treatment, you would move in to live with me. Is that true as well?”
She feared he was just pacifying her, yet she took his words to heart.
Indeed, Nian Xun’s original intention was only to coax her into agreeing to the treatment, with no plans of actually moving into Fenghui Garden to live with her.
He opened his mouth to tell the truth, but Wen Zhi had already caught on to his thoughts, so before he could speak, she said first, “I was just asking. I know you are busy, and it’s not convenient to live here.”
Nian Xun hummed in agreement, “It’s not convenient.”
Wen Zhi’s heart sank, her head slowly drooping. She didn’t want to watch him leave anymore and turned to go inside.
Nian Xun did not leave immediately; seeing Wen Zhi go inside, he called Aunt Xu over to ask, “When Gu Rang came to visit her, did he bring anything for her?”
Aunt Xu thought for a moment then shook her head, “No.”
Nian Xun turned slightly and asked slowly, “And Wen Zhi… is she close to Gu Rang?”
Without hesitation, Aunt Xu shook her head, “No, Miss Wen doesn’t know that Mr. Gu. The person she is closest to right now is you.”
Hearing this, a faint smile appeared on Nian Xun’s lips.
Aunt Xu added, “Miss Wen just shows some reaction when she hears Mr. Gu’s name.”
The smile on Nian Xun’s face faded slightly as he asked further, “What kind of reaction?”
Aunt Xu replied, “Miss Wen would stare absent-minded at Mr. Gu and repeat his name over and over, as if trying hard to recall memories of their past acquaintance.”
As she said this, a smile appeared on Aunt Xu’s face, “It’s good this way. If Mr. Gu visits Miss Wen more often, it will definitely help her regain all of her memories.”
But upon hearing these words, Nian Xun’s face grew darker.
Something was churning in the depths of his eyes, but a moment later it returned to normal and he instructed coldly, “Next time someone comes to see her, call me first. Let them meet only after I say it’s okay.”
Aunt Xu didn’t ask anything, nodding hurriedly, “Understood, Mr. Nian.”
“Especially that man who claims to be called Shang Hexing,” Nian Xun emphasized the name once more, “remember this, without my permission, don’t let them near Wen Zhi.”
Aunt Xu continued to nod, “Got it.”
…
Evening arrived.
Wen Zhi made sure Aunt Xu wouldn’t enter her room again, then she took out a box from the wardrobe and opened it with great care.
Inside the box lay a string of Buddha Beads.
These Buddha Beads, they were brought to her by someone named Gu Rang.
Gu Rang told her, “These were originally yours, and they come as a pair. It’s just that I don’t know where the other one is, but you should know once you remember.”
At the time, Wen Zhi couldn’t understand what Gu Rang was saying. She only knew she liked the Buddha Beads at first sight and, after thanking him, she accepted them.
She was almost inseparable from the Buddha Beads, wearing them all the time and reluctant to take them off.
And because she was worried the Buddha Beads might be stolen, she dared not wear them during the day, hiding them carefully, not letting Aunt Xu know, nor wanting Nian Xun to find out.
“So beautiful…” Wen Zhi lay on the bed, holding the Buddha Beads up to the light to appreciate them. After a while, a few threads of doubt appeared in her eyes, “Are there really a pair of these Buddha Beads?”
If there was a pair, where could the other one be?
Wen Zhi closed her eyes, trying hard to recall the past.
But she couldn’t find any trace of memories related to the Buddha Beads in her mind.
She opened her eyes, slightly annoyed as she patted her head, “What else have I forgotten…”
Why couldn’t she remember so many things!
And, was her name really Wen Zhi?
Surrounded by doubts, Wen Zhi’s eyelids grew heavier and soon she fell asleep.
She slept deeply, dreamless for the first part of the night, not even turning over once. Until the latter part of the night, Wen Zhi felt something shaking her in a daze, a strange feeling in her body. She tried to stop the shaking, but couldn’t.
Until she opened her eyes, and before she could make out the scene before her, she was sealed with a nearly suffocating kiss.
“Mmm…”
A very strange sound escaped from her lips.
And the man seemed ruthless, not hearing her pleas at all. Just when Wen Zhi tried to see the man’s face clearly, she found that, just like in her previous dreams, his face was covered with a white mist, impossible to discern.
Eventually, Wen Zhi grew extremely tired.
She no longer tried to make out what that man looked like; she just wanted to sleep well.
But as the scene shifted, she jolted awake to find herself standing on a rooftop in the cold wind, with no one around.
She was dressed lightly, and as the cold wind blew, she hugged herself, shivering, “Where is this…”
“Wen Zhi.”
A shout came from behind.
Wen Zhi turned her head and saw a tall figure of a man standing not far away. But because he was too far, Wen Zhi couldn’t make out his features. However, her instincts told her that this man was the same one who had just bullied her.
“Strange, why can’t I always see clearly…” Wen Zhi muttered to herself as she walked towards the man.
But when she got in front of him, she still couldn’t see his face clearly.
Because his face was all white fog.
