Chapter 144: Isn’t the Young Madam’s Throne Tempting? (Part 2)
CHAPTER 144: CHAPTER 144: ISN’T THE YOUNG MADAM’S THRONE TEMPTING? (PART 2)
She suddenly realized something very dangerous.
She didn’t know when it started, but Elias Hawthorne had changed.
Previously, whenever Elias looked at her, his eyes always held scrutiny, and there was rejection at the corners of his eyes and mouth.
But now, suddenly, it’s different. When he looks at her, there’s something indescribable in his eyes. This change made Raina North vigilant; she wouldn’t entangle with Elias even if she went insane.
Just then, Raina’s phone suddenly rang, the number flashing on the screen was Old Mrs. Hawthorne’s.
Raina paused for a moment and answered, "Hello, Grandma."
"Raina, I asked Elias to pick you up for dinner at home."
Raina was taken aback. So, Elias wasn’t lying. But she still refused, "Grandma, I have some personal matters tonight. How about I come back to accompany you another day?"
"Raina, be honest with me, is Elias bullying you? If so, tell me, and I’ll deal with him."
Raina couldn’t help but glance at Elias. Seeing his face darken, she couldn’t help but laugh heartily. At last, there was someone who could restrain Elias.
"No, I’m just a bit busy with work."
"Work never ends, and it’s not too late to go out tomorrow. Come back with Elias, otherwise, it’ll be just this old lady eating alone again today. Oh, I’m so pitiful."
Raina actually knew Old Mrs. Hawthorne was pretending, but she still couldn’t refuse her.
Over the years, besides her grandfather, Old Mrs. Hawthorne was the first elder who treated her well.
Even though they hadn’t spent much time together, in her heart, Old Mrs. Hawthorne was no different from her own grandmother.
Raina could only agree reluctantly, listening to the old lady’s joyful voice on the phone, and felt it was quite worthwhile.
"Let’s go then."
Without hesitation, Raina withdrew her hand and said coldly, "No need, I’ll drive back later. Don’t worry, I won’t disappoint Grandma."
After she finished speaking, she turned around swiftly.
Elias watched Raina’s figure as she walked away, with an unreadable expression in his dark eyes.
Aidan Lynch watched the whole scene from the side and inexplicably felt very pleased. If he remembered correctly, Raina should be the first person not to pay attention to The Hell King Hawthorne.
It seems that even The Hell King Hawthorne, handsome, dashing, wealthy, and powerful, doesn’t appeal to women.
...
Knowing Raina was coming back, Old Mrs. Hawthorne prepared a sumptuous dinner, with a large table filled with dishes, almost all of Raina’s favorites.
Baby Hawthorne and Casper North clung to Raina’s side and wouldn’t leave, especially Baby, who didn’t spare a glance at his own dad.
Elias didn’t mind; he didn’t retreat to the study to work like before. Instead, he sat quietly, as if keeping watch over the mother and her two sons.
Old Mrs. Hawthorne watched this harmonious scene from the side, her smile never fading from her face.
This scene looked like a happy family, one that would make anyone sincerely feel happiness.
Except for Claire North.
She sat alone in the corner, watching the scene, her smile couldn’t hold up anymore, filled with stiffness. Her hands, resting on her sides, clenched tightly, with nails digging into her palms, yet she felt no pain.
The pain was nothing compared to the torment in her heart.
Just thinking that the cherished person should have been her, but she pushed it away, made her heart ache tremendously. Three days.
Not to mention three days—even three hours, three minutes, she couldn’t bear it.
She wished Raina would disappear in the next second!
