CHAPTER 54: CHAPTER 54: WHY AREN’T YOU LYING IN THE DUST? (PART 2)

"I’m afraid those people won’t agree, and I’m not interested anyway." She had plenty of pharmaceutical companies larger than Northwind, just one Northwind, she truly didn’t think much of it.

"So I hope you can get into The Veridian National Apothecary," Old Master North said.

Raina North frowned. "The Veridian National Apothecary?"

"The Veridian National Apothecary is Veridia’s largest and most influential place, the ancestor of our medical industry, gathering the world’s top physicians and pharmacists. Only geniuses among geniuses can enter, and even a mere apprentice there is highly impressive."

Raina North certainly knew of The Veridian National Apothecary’s existence; back then, she was almost annoyed to death by those old men. Just thinking about them gave her a headache.

They were supposed to be the giants of The Veridian Apothecary Hall of Fame, yet they lost face just to recruit her.

"A month from now, the Southgate Branch of The Veridian National Apothecary will conduct recruitment exams. If you can get in, you’ll have enough leverage at Northwind." As he thought of this, Old Master North suddenly became extremely sorrowful. "It’s all the North Family’s fault for holding you back. If only you had continued your studies back then, with your talent and ability, getting into The Veridian Grand Apothecary wouldn’t have been an issue."

"Grandfather, actually..."

Raina North wanted to refuse, but was interrupted by a sudden voice.

"Grandfather, are you muddled by your illness? How could Raina, this useless wretch, possibly get into The Veridian National Apothecary?"

Evelyn Xavier entered, naturally accompanied by Claire North.

Evelyn Xavier snorted coldly, gave Raina North a chilly glance, then looked at the sickbed-bound Old Master North.

"Grandfather, did you forget how Raina was kicked out by The Veridian National Apothecary before? After that incident, how long was our North Family mocked, almost dragging Claire down with it? Luckily, Claire has great talent and was accepted as Master Zane’s apprentice, otherwise she would’ve been ruined by her."

"Nonsense!" Old Master North was furious upon hearing this.

Claire North quickly stepped forward: "Grandfather, calm down. Evelyn didn’t mean any harm, she just..." Claire looked at Raina North, "Sister wants to get into The Veridian Institute of Medicine, but they have rules, and sister is probably not eligible to take the exam."

"You don’t have to worry about that, I can put aside my old reputation and arrange a spot for the exam."

Evelyn Xavier and Claire North’s expressions turned ugly.

Evelyn Xavier looked at Raina North mockingly: "Raina, how do you plan to embarrass yourself this time? Last time you stole exam questions to cheat, this time, do you plan to simply bribe the examiners or seduce them?"

Raina North brushed her long hair, her lips curved slightly: "Your words do give me a reminder, you should lie where you fall, especially when you’re not strong enough. You can still hope to get in through cheating, bribing the examiners, or even seducing them. Don’t you agree, Claire?"

Called out by Raina North, Claire North’s face turned pale instantly.

A flash of panic seemed to pass by.

Especially Raina North’s smile and gaze, mocking yet seemingly earnest, all reminded her of how she got into The Veridian Institute of Medicine.

Evelyn Xavier was extremely displeased with Raina North.

These grievances had accumulated over the years. Ever since childhood, Raina North, the eldest daughter of the North Family, overshadowed Evelyn as the granddaughter, leaving her in obscurity. What fueled Evelyn’s resentment even more was Raina’s indifferent attitude towards both her attempts at ingratiation and her sabotage, making Evelyn feel like a clown.

Thankfully, the heavens finally opened their eyes; Raina’s true identity was revealed, stripping her of her noble lady aura, and crushing her into the dust.

But Evelyn was still dissatisfied. Since she was cast down, why didn’t she just stay down in the dust for good?
