CHAPTER 600: CHAPTER 600: THE PERFECT SCAPEGOAT (PART 2)
Given the current circumstances, her guess was correct.
Afterwards, Raina North had Pip Finch open the largest hall and personally held a commendation ceremony to recognize those who participated in the operation.
Watching the excited faces of the brothers in the alliance turn red, and then looking at the First Elder’s slightly green face, the long-suppressed mood finally eased a bit.
...
Just as they came out of the hall, a member of The Celestial Alliance came to report that the Dark Tower Envoy, the Hades Clan Envoy, and other envoys from the five major families had arrived at the door, seeking an audience with The Celestial Alliance Leader.
The Third Elder immediately said, "Alliance Hierarch, these people are likely not coming with good intentions. Let me handle them."
"No need. Since they are here, they probably won’t be easy to deal with," Raina North walked into the office. "Invite them in."
Soon, the group entered the office. Seven people led the way, each representing their respective forces.
When they saw Raina North, they cupped their hands and politely said, "Alliance Leader Rivers, it’s been years, but you still look the same."
"Not at all," Raina North looked at them. "Why have you all come to my Celestial Alliance?"
Upon hearing Raina North’s words, a hot-tempered envoy couldn’t hold back. "Orion Rivers, don’t you know what your Celestial Alliance has done? Do you still have the face to ask me?"
Raina North smiled faintly, "I really don’t know."
"You!"
The Dark Tower Envoy stopped his companion and looked at Raina North. "It seems the Alliance Leader Rivers refuses to admit to robbing my Dark Tower’s escorted goods and occupying our territory?"
"Who said I refuse to admit it? I do admit it," Raina North glanced at everyone and said, "Not only did my Celestial Alliance rob the Dark Tower, but we also took over everyone else’s territories. So what? Is there a problem with that?"
"Orion Rivers, you have some nerve!"
"Orion Rivers, since you’ve confessed, do you acknowledge your crimes?"
"Crimes? What crimes? Did my Celestial Alliance do anything wrong?"
Raina North raised her eyebrows and casually said, "Don’t tell me it’s because my Celestial Alliance took your territories. Over the centuries, how many lands truly belonged to you? They were just territories your ancestors seized from others. The strong always rule. I’m merely doing what your ancestors did. Are you barging into my Celestial Alliance to tell me you believe your ancestors were wrong?"
None of them spoke.
In the Umbral Zone, the law has always been a joke and idle talk; the unchanging iron law is that might makes right. Besides that, there’s a great emphasis on ancestors.
Now, Raina North shamelessly brought up their ancestors, how could they rebut? Moreover, survival of the fittest is the supreme rule of the Umbral Zone anyway.
So, technically, Raina North wasn’t wrong.
Raina North, with a subtle smile, glanced at everyone, took a sip of water from her teacup, and tapped her fingers on the table. "Why isn’t anyone speaking? Have you all turned mute, or do you find Orion Rivers’ words very reasonable?"
The Dark Tower Envoy said, "It seems Alliance Leader Rivers stubbornly refuses to return our Dark Tower’s goods and territory."
"Since the goods have entered my Celestial Alliance, they are now our goods and territory. If you are not satisfied, let the Lord of the Dark Tower come and debate with me. And the same goes for you all..." Raina North’s gaze swept across the room. "The same applies to each of you."
The crowd couldn’t help but become furious, coldly saying, "Since Alliance Leader Rivers insists, we can only report today’s events truthfully to our lord. As for the consequences, take them at your own risk!"
After speaking, with a casual cupping of hands, they prepared to leave with their people.
