?Chapter 1204:

If there had been any hint of mistrust between them, this kind of arrangement would have been entirely out of line. But Ellis hadplete faith in Freya, and she was fully devoted to him. So, in truth, whose name the properties ended up under was inconsequential.

Ellis said, “If you don’t sign, I’ll just assume you’re nning your escape.” For once, he was clearly pushing the issue.

Freya pressed her lips together, and in the end, she signed.

Afterward, she asked softly, “Aren’t you scared I’ll take everything and vanish?”

Ellis replied, “You might run, but you won’t be able to hide.”

Freya responded, “I actually might be able to.”

Ellis said, “Then I’ll go tell your dad.”

Freya gave up trying to argue. Some people, no matter how serious they appeared on the outside, could be utterly childish deep down.

“Get the paperwork sorted,” Ellis said, handing the thick stack of documents to Locke, as if he had just ticked something important off a long-standing list. Locke found himself surprisingly moved by the gesture.

Once outside with the papers, Locke shot Ellis a message, his curiosity impossible to hold back. “You’re giving all this away willingly? If you two split down the road, you won’t get any of it back. Are you really okay with that?”

“Already thinking about a divorce before the wedding even happens?” Ellis replied, with a hint of amusement. “Are you pushing your luck with your job?”

Locke responded, “No, I’m being serious. Feelings are unpredictable. Aren’t you worried things might go south one day?”

Reading the message, Ellis’s lips curled into a faint smile, his eyes softening with warmth that rarely surfaced. He typed his reply withposed ease.

Ellis said, “That’s the kind of thing other people might worry about—not me. We’re not just a couple. We’re partners who can count on each other when it counts.”

They had stared death in the face and wed their way through hell together. He trusted Freya, just as she trusted him.

Locke smiled at the response, then turned to process the documents. If Ellis believed in this as deeply as he did, he would give his blessing without question. Ellis and Freya were bound to find forever in each other.

“Ellis,” Freya said gently, her lips drawing together.

Ellis had just replied to a message. As he lifted his head, sunlight washed over his face—noble, at ease, and so striking that she couldn’t look away. She was momentarily dazed.

Ellis didn’t catch the flicker in her gaze. “What’s wrong?”

Freya cleared her throat and hesitated. “Well…” She paused. “Should I prepare some gifts in return?”

Ellis smiled lightly. “No need to prepare anything.”

He put his phone down and pulled her into his arms. “Just having you here by my side is all I need.”

Freya pressed her lips together, feeling warm and sweet inside.
