Shocked! The Young Master's Petite Darling Is a Master of Mysteries
Chapter 24 His Lucky Star
CHAPTER 24: CHAPTER 24 HIS LUCKY STAR
Xia Mian raised her hand, dipped her finger into the teacup to get a bit of water, and gently painted complex patterns on the table.
In the water stains, Xia Mian seemed to see all of Kang Cheng’s life...
Moments later, her face turned extremely grim.
"You didn’t scheme for wealth, but because of your interference, that girl’s life trajectory was altered. She was supposed to enjoy a life of honor, carefree like a flower in riches, but ten years ago, she died." Xia Mian’s fingers trembled slightly. "Moreover, back then, to privately pocket the reward, you must have murdered your accomplice, right?"
Kang Cheng shook, nearly slipping off his wheelchair.
Indeed, he had concealed the harmful fact from Xia Mian.
Ten years ago... died... these two pieces of information entered Lu Zechuan’s ears, and his face turned as dark as ink. He was momentarily lost in thought, and the teacup in his hand fell to the ground with a crash.
His mother had died of depression ten years ago.
Three years later, his aunt Shen Man was brought into the house by Lu Zhenqing to become his stepmother!
"Mianmian niece, I know I was wrong!" Kang Cheng’s face was bloodless, disregarding any dignity. "As long as my grandson can live healthily and happily, I’ll pay any price! Even if it’s retribution by death!"
Kang Cheng was truly afraid.
These things had happened so many years ago, and he had thought, as long as he didn’t speak, no one would know.
But now, Xia Mian, just through his birth date, uncovered all his dirty deeds thoroughly!
"You bear the weight of two human lives!" Xia Mian’s face was solemn, her tone heavy. "You, I can’t save anymore. However, if you’re willing to redeem yourself, I can try to help so that disaster doesn’t befall your family."
Upon hearing Xia Mian say he couldn’t be saved, Kang Cheng felt like he was plunged into an ice cave.
However, hearing Xia Mian could still help his family, Kang Cheng regained some spirit.
"Mianmian niece, just say it. As long as I can do it, I will!" Kang Cheng was emotionally agitated, so much so that he started coughing uncontrollably.
Xia Mian glanced at him, "Find the families of the two people you caused to die, and compensate them as best as you can. If they’re willing to forgive you, maybe your future generations can still be saved."
Kang Cheng was stunned at first, then thanked her profusely, "I will do so!"
Having gotten a satisfactory answer, he couldn’t sit still and called Kang Wei to pick him up.
Kang Wei arrived quickly and tactfully informed them of Song Juan’s whereabouts, "Aunt Song had something to attend to and left a moment ago."
Xia Mian responded with a sound, took out her phone to have a look, and indeed there was a message from Song Juan just sent to her.
"Miss Xia, we the Kang Family will remember your great kindness to us. In the future, if you need anything, we’ll do whatever we can, no matter the danger!" Kang Wei bowed deeply to Xia Mian, then pushed Kang Cheng away. Before leaving, Kang Wei thoughtfully paid the bill.
It wasn’t until Xia Mian and Lu Zechuan were the only ones left in the room did the dishes they had ordered earlier start arriving one by one.
Yet, Lu Zechuan seemed to be in low spirits.
The dishes were served, but he didn’t touch his chopsticks.
Xia Mian glanced at him curiously.
Clearly, before entering the hotel, Lu Zechuan looked normal, but now he seemed utterly lost.
"What’s wrong with you?" Even with a slow mind, Xia Mian could tell something was off with Lu Zechuan.
Upon hearing Xia Mian’s words, Lu Zechuan seemed to awaken from a dream, faintly moving his lips and dismissively saying, "It’s nothing."
Xia Mian didn’t press further; everyone has secrets they don’t wish to share, and she wasn’t about to force him.
This meal was unpleasant due to Lu Zechuan’s worries.
After eating, the two left the hotel, and Lu Zechuan offered to drive Xia Mian home.
Xia Mian agreed, and the two walked one after another down the hotel steps.
Lu Zechuan walked silently ahead, while Xia Mian quietly followed behind him.
Suddenly, Xia Mian noticed a large shadow on the ground, and in that instant, instinct took over and she pushed Lu Zechuan away.
The two lost balance, tumbling down the steps; Lu Zechuan’s forehead was grazed, and Xia Mian’s arm got a few scratches.
Lu Zechuan was baffled, unaware of the situation until a mysterious object crashed down just a step away from where they were, shattering into pieces upon hitting the stone steps...
Lu Zechuan’s face immediately darkened.
If Xia Mian hadn’t pushed him, he might have been injured so severely that his survival was uncertain!
The commotion outside quickly caught the attention of the hotel’s on-duty manager, who rushed out in a trot.
"Are you okay?" The hotel manager’s heart skipped a beat upon seeing Lu Zechuan and Xia Mian’s condition.
Lu Zechuan had a wound on his forehead, and Xia Mian, though not bleeding, had visible scrapes on her face.
The hotel manager felt his heart sink!
Despite their young appearances, the two exuded an overwhelmingly strong presence, especially Lu Zechuan, whose silent, dark eyes sent chills down the manager’s spine with just a glance.
"We need a reasonable explanation for today’s incident." Lu Zechuan’s presence was imposing, and despite the early autumn weather not being too cold, the hotel manager was sweating profusely.
"Yes, I’ll look into it immediately!" The hotel manager turned and hurried back inside.
Xia Mian took out a tissue and pressed it to Lu Zechuan’s forehead, "Let’s go back inside, and I’ll ask them for a first aid kit to treat your wound."
Lu Zechuan nodded, returning to the hotel with Xia Mian.
After settling in the hotel’s VIP area, Lu Zechuan reached into his pocket, only to find the Amulet Xia Mian gifted him had turned to ashes.
When Xia Mian returned with the first aid kit, she saw Lu Zechuan staring blankly at a red string.
Xia Mian, with her keen eyes, immediately recognized the red string as the one she had used for the Amulet gifted to Lu Zechuan.
But now, the red string was empty.
Xia Mian’s eyes narrowed deeply.
"Starting to be unlucky again!" Xia Mian murmured softly, not dwelling on the matter. Squatting in front of Lu Zechuan, she said gently, "Sit still, and I’ll treat your wound."
Hearing this, Lu Zechuan obediently sat still.
The teenage girl’s fragrance enveloped him as she leaned closer.
Lu Zechuan was momentarily distracted.
It seemed he might be getting a little addicted to this girl in front of him.
"You’re really lucky to have met me; otherwise, you’d have lost your life here today." Xia Mian’s voice was soft and gentle as she carefully wiped away the blood on Lu Zechuan’s forehead and put on a large band-aid.
"Try not to get it wet for a few days to avoid scarring!" Xia Mian packed away the first aid kit and returned it to the staff.
By the time she returned to Lu Zechuan, the hotel manager had already investigated the situation and was apologizing to Lu Zechuan.
