CHAPTER 1814: ORIGIN OF SPIRITS

It was as if the God of Winds Zephyrus could sense that I was confused as the Fenrir suddenly turned to look at me.

Though it was more because it was obvious that I would be confused by what they were talking about since I had no idea what the story behind this was.

That was why the Zephyrus suddenly said, "Spirits aren’t related to gods in any way, they were created naturally when elemental energy gathered. You can even say that they are the very personification of nature."

"Huh?" I was caught off guard when I heard this before looking confused once more.

Logically speaking, it should be said that gods created this world.

Or at least that was what had been preached among the humans.

Even in the game, that was what the setting had been.

Now this God of Winds was just telling me that this wasn’t the case.

Instead, the spirits actually were formed by the world itself and had nothing to do with the gods at all. But even if this was the case, it wasn’t as if the gods weren’t related to this at all since they created the elemental energy.

"We didn’t create the world itself, we just created some of the races that exist in this world and govern the world itself. It seems like you’re mistaken about what kind of gods we are."

I was even more taken aback when I heard this and I couldn’t help looking at the Fenrir with a strange look.

They didn’t hesitate at all as they said, "There is a god that is charge of creation, so wouldn’t us creating things for this world be considered going against that domain that they are in charge of? It just wouldn’t be right for us to step onto their domain."

Right, there was still the God of Creation wasn’t there?

The God of Creation should be the one that was in charge of creating the things in this world...

It didn’t seem like there was anything wrong with what Zephyrus said, it was just strange to think of the gods like this. But then again, it wasn’t as if I had ever thought that deeply about this in the past.

Once Zephyrus finished explaining all of this, they looked back to Sylph to say, "You will have to work hard if you don’t want your authority diminished."

"What do you mean by authority diminished?"

That was the one thing that I still didn’t understand about all of this.

If the spirits weren’t created by the gods, then that shouldn’t mean that they would have the rights to do something like this. The spirits should be completely separated from the gods since they were things that were created by this world.

Or in a sense, they should be equal.

After all, gods were also something that had just spawned out of nature.

Or was it the God of Creation that created them as well since they were the one in charge of creating everything in this world.

"Even if we gods can’t directly influence spirits, that doesn’t mean that we can’t indirectly influence spirits. We control things that the spirits depend on in this world."

"Natural elemental energy?" I slowly asked after hearing this.

The Fenrir gave a nod before explaining, "The gods of the various elements are naturally able to control natural elemental energy since it would be considered part of their domain. Spirits that are creatures that were created from natural elemental energy need that to become stronger. If we were to restrain them from obtaining this, then they would slowly regress."

The Fenrir turned to look at Sylph who had a worried look on her face to say, "If we were to weaken or even cut off their connection with the natural elemental energy around them, then they wouldn’t be able to maintain their power as a Spirit King. That is why we call it taking away their authority."

I was completely taken aback when I heard this.

I had never thought that this was how becoming a Spirit King worked, but there wasn’t anything that I could say since this was something that a god was explaining to me. In the first place, I had no idea about any of this since this was something that seemed to involve the very nature of this world.

Sylph just remained silent, but the worried look on her face was more than enough to show what she was thinking.

At the same time, I could see that she was sending a look in my direction from time to time as if she was asking me for help.

I couldn’t help giving a secret sigh when I saw this, but I still said, "I’ll make sure that she works hard."

The Fenrir narrowed her eyes to look at Sylph for a moment before turning back to me to say, "I hope that you will work her extra hard to make up for everything that she has done."

Then with one last look at Sylph, Zephyrus said, "This is your way of making up for everything that you’ve done."

Sylph didn’t say anything, but it seemed like she was telling Zephyrus to leave as soon as possible.

Instead, the Fenrir raised her head and said a few words.

There were sounds that were made, but it didn’t seem like there was anything that could be heard. It was as if this was a kind of sound that could only be heard by special people.

But this created a glowing thing in the air that went towards Sylph.

Sylph started to panic when she saw this, but there was also this invisible force that seemed to be restraining her.

When it was over, there was this mark that was on her forehead.

"No, not my beautiful face!" Sylph cried out, but Zephyrus just ignored her.

Instead, Zephyrus said, "With this mark, don’t even think about running away or getting out of this. I’ll be watching."

I couldn’t help shaking my head with a bitter smile when I saw this.
