Shunned By An Alpha, Cherised By A Lycan
Chapter 105
?Chapter 105:
“Mhm,” I mumbled, not exactly in the mood to talk.
His gaze lingered on mine, and I could tell he wanted to say something.
“It’s been a long day. I’m exhausted,” he said, stretching his arms.
I gave him a sympathetic look, my lips forming a pout. “Rough day at work?”
He shook his head, his jaw tightening a bit. “Nothing serious, just some pack issues. It’s fine. I just need to unwind.”
His eyes were on me again, like he needed something, but wouldn’t ask. I could see it, but I wasn’t sure how to help.
Then his phone buzzed, cutting through the moment. He nced at the screen, and his expression darkened.
“What is it?” I asked.
He let out a heavy sigh, and I sat up.
“I’ve got an urgent meeting. I’m going to be away from the pack for a week or two.” His head dropped into his hands, and for the first time, I saw just how tired he really was.
“Away?” My voice was barely above a whisper. I didn’t like this, but I’d learned that with Ryder, pushing wasn’t going to get me anywhere. His eyes avoided mine, locked on the firece instead.
“Just a business trip. I’ll be back before you even realize I’m gone.”
A tight knot formed in my chest. He was always pushing me away when things got close. He didn’t even tell me where he was going.
“When do you leave?” I tried to keep my voice steady, even though I could feel the frustration building.
“Tomorrow morning.” His tone was final, like there was no room for debate. It stung, more than I wanted to admit.
The room was dimly lit, but the weight of his words felt heavy, like a storm cloud hanging over us. My heart ached at the thought of him leaving, but what was I supposed to say?
“When?” I asked again, my voice barely holding together.

“Early. I’ll be gone before you wake up.” He said it softly, but the finality hit hard.
I bit my lip, holding back the wave of emotions threatening to spill over.
Ryder’s hands reached for mine, pulling me back from the edge. “Hey, there’s some good news, though.”
I nced at him, raising an eyebrow. “What could possibly be good about you leaving?”
“You won’t be stuck at home this time. You’re officially employed now,” he said, a teasing glint returning to his eyes.
I sat up straighter, my eyes wide. “Wait, what? Employed? Doing what?”
“Maverick will fill you in when he gets back,” Ryder said, leaning in as if his words alone could quiet my mind.
I had a million questions, but then Ryder’s lips found mine, silencing every single one of them.
“I know it’s sudden,” he whispered against my lips, “but I want you to stay busy while I’m gone.”
The mix of emotions hit me all at once—excitement about the new opportunity, sadness about him leaving. It was overwhelming, and yet, I nodded.
“You’ll be okay?” he asked, his voice softer than before, a vulnerability seeping through.
I nodded again, forcing a smile that didn’t quite reach my eyes.
That night, Ryder’s touch was tender, like he was saying goodbye in a way he couldn’t with words. Our bodies moved together, but something still felt off, like there was a piece missing.
