CHAPTER 867: 864: THE THIRD NIGHT (2)
As the distance between Corey and the ghostly baby arms decreased at a rapid pace, Corey’s mind spun with several thoughts.
His expression was emotionless and indifferent as he made several sharp turns while leaving a trail of lightning in his wake.
He took a glance behind him, and his violet-blue eyes reflected the image of the horrifying baby arms moving towards him while phasing through any object that was in their way.
He frowned slightly, and then he shifted his gaze back to his front.
His Eyes of Dreams and Nightmares receded, and his Tri-Pupil Eyes appeared.
The two golden triangular pupils in each eye rotated, and the space in front of Corey rippled.
A corpse appeared before Corey, and he grabbed the corpse before gravity could even act on it.
The corpse was one of the monsters from the horde that had attacked him and the Thirteenth Dawn on the First Night.
He had subtly kept one in his Tri-Pupil Eyes, and although he had kept it for him to study, he needed it to save his life.
Without sparing the corpse a glance, he suddenly jumped forward. As he soared through the air, he turned and threw the corpse behind him.
His Tri-Pupil Eyes switched back to his Eyes of Dreams and Nightmares.
The two set of arms were about a hundred meters away from touching him, and such a distance was way too close.
The corpse flew straight into the dozens of arms, and as Corey ran in the air while deploying a platform of hexagon barriers beneath his feet, he watched as the corpse collided with the arms.
Or at least... that was what was meant to occur.
The arms phased through the corpse almost like it did not exist, and when Corey saw this, his left eye twitched.
Bang!
The corpse slammed into the wall of a building, and it became a pile of minced meat and blood due to the immense force Corey used to throw it.
Meanwhile, Corey continued running at the fastest speed he could muster.
In fact, he had crossed over three kilometers in less than a minute, and he was closer to the center of the Dying City. But that was the last thought that was on his mind.
’It didn’t work.’
Corey’s gaze became dark and cold, and he subtly glanced below him.
He saw the arms elongating to his height, making it seem like the arms could stretch for infinity.
He looked down, and his Eyes of Dreams and Nightmares switched back to his Tri-Pupil Eyes.
His golden triangular pupils rotated and released a golden glow.
His figure vanished, and in place of it was a boulder.
A second after he disappeared, the arms appeared where he stood.
They froze for a second when they noticed that Corey was no longer there, and a sound rippled across the Dying City.
The sound was extremely strange, but it was like the sound of metal moving across a chalkboard.
It was grating.
The space around the ghostly baby arms rippled violently, and then they charged at Corey with fury and frustration.
In the blink of an eye, they shortened the distance between them and Corey to barely a meter.
Corey’s instincts screamed at him, and his pupils constricted in disbelief.
An arm stretched and swung at him, and Corey was barely able to dodge to the side and avoid it from touching the tip of his hair.
He had a feeling that if they touched any part of his body, even his hair, he would suffer the Rule of Taking.
’I guess I have no choice.’
The moment he had this thought, he stretched out his hand to the right with a cold and emotionless expression.
The space to his right glowed with a grey light and space rippled.
----
Meanwhile, as all of these was going on with Corey, the Thirteenth Dawn were seated in a safe house with terrified expressions.
In the center of the house, and curling on the ground was Kieran who was holding both sides of his head.
Thick veins could be seen on his head along with his blood red eyes, and his clenched teeth.
His expression was one of pain as he struggled to hold in the immense pain he was feeling from having his ears taken from him.
Just like how it had happened so fast to Rhys, Corey, and Yara, it had happened so fast to Kieran despite their wariness and caution of their surroundings.
When they saw that three things were going to be taken on the Third Night, each of them were in great fear because their fears came to pass.
They had no idea who was going to be targeted, but the shock of their captain being targeted came as a shock to them.
"Damn this place. Damn this place man. This is so fucked up. So fucked up I tell you."
Zeke paced around with wide fearful eyes while holding his head. He glanced at Kieran whose expression was slowly getting better.
However, the loss of his ears could be seen.
They were completely gone.
"This trial is a sick place. We need to leave quickly before we all die or lose every body part we have." Aelric who had been the most enthusiastic to enter the trial in the first place had an extremely solemn expression as he looked at Kieran.
"But we can’t leave until the seventh night is over. Damn it. It’s all because of that damn newbie. A fucking Tier 6 appeared during the Day!" Myra shouted with a terrified and murderous expression, and everybody became quiet.
They had never said the words out loud, but deep in their hearts, the seeds of blame and anger toward Corey had been sown.
It was because they knew how terrible a discord in a group could be. It could lead to terrible results, and they did not want that.
But for how long could they suppress this seed of anger and blame?
They were already at their limits.
"Wait. Didn’t the system say that three things were going to be taken? Only one thing has been taken."
Zeke pointed out, and everybody became silent.
"Maybe it made a mistake?" Zeke eventually said with an unsure tone, and the moment he said that, a pop resounded in the room.
They all turned toward the source which was in Myra’s direction, but to their surprise, Myra was no longer there.
In one moment, she was sitting close to the bloodied and injured Kieran, and in the next... she was gone.
"Myra?" Zeke tilted his head with a baffled expression.
