CHAPTER 868: 865: THE THIRD NIGHT (3)

Corey’s eyes were one unfathomably calm and indifferent as he kept on moving the back while keeping his gaze on the ghostly child-like arms that were less than a meter from touching him.

Dark-grey blood dripped from his nose down to his lips, and thick veins could be seen in his eyes and on his forehead.

He took a step, and a thin stream of dark-grey blood leaked from the corner of his eyes and slid down his cheeks.

Veins suddenly appeared on his neck, and the mental strain Corey was feeling by being in his current hyper-focused state was beginning to near his limit.

But despite all of these, his expression was still extremely calm and indifferent.

He took a step back, and arcs of lightning along with the sound of thunder exploded from his feet as he increased the distance between him and the arms.

But in the blink of an eye, the distance was shortened by the arms.

Corey’s eyes flashed, and the space to his right rippled with a dark grey light.

He waved his hand, and a veil of illusion was placed around the dark grey light before it dispersed.

In the next moment, Myra stumbled out of thin air and fell face flat on the ground.

"What the hell?"

She was baffled, but before she could regain her bearings, Corey clapped.

The space between Myra and the arms shortened, and in the blink of a Tier 6’s eye, Myra was before the ghostly baby arms.

The appearance of Myra was too sudden, and the arms could not avoid Myra even if they wanted to.

They grabbed her.

They held her head, back, chest, arms, legs, and her lower stomach.

Myra was frozen in place, and when she opened her eyes, she could not see what was holding her in place.

In fact, she saw nothing. Only pure darkness that surrounded her.

Fear gripped her heart and soul, and she attempted to scream, but the child-like arms had covered her mouth.

Only her eyes could be seen on her face.

An unknown amount of time passed to her, and then she shuddered. Her soul shuddered, and she was baffled.

She didn’t know what was going on, but she had a feeling that something had been taken from her.

It felt intangible, and her mind instantly went to the Rule of Taking.

The first thing had been taken from her.

And it was gone.

Completely erased.

The arms pulled back, all except one. And with them, came a strange, faint membrane of colorless light from Myra’s body.

She staggered and almost fell due to the sudden disappearance of what had been holding her, but she quickly regained her balance.

Although all she could see around was darkness, she could see her body.

She looked down at her hands, and when she saw that they were still intact, she felt relieved.

She touched her face, her eyes, her nose, her lips, tongue, and even her hair. But everything was present.

She looked down at her legs, and when she saw that she had two legs, a surge of relief washed over her.

She clenched her right hand. ’Then what was... Wait.’

She looked down at her hand which was clenched.

She could not feel herself clenching her hand.

’What?’

She raised her hand up to her face, and she touched every part of her face, and then she realized what she had lost.

’My sense of touch?!’

Her brain had automatically transmitted to she had been feeling different parts of her face in the past, but when her body became calm, the realization dawned on her.

She crouched, and touched the floor, but she could not still feel anything.

’What the-?’

Before she could complete her thoughts... The second blow came.

Her entire body began spasming violently and she fell to the ground.

The last arm that was on her lower stomach turned and twisted, and deep inside of her, her mana core pulsed before...

A sharp crack rang out from inside her, and her eyes widened in horror.

The second thing had been taken from her.

Her mana core.

Her mana shattered into dust which began to flow out of her.

"NOOOOOOO!!!!"

She shrieked in pain, fury, and horror as she watched every single bit of mana leave her body through her pores.

A surge of darkness suddenly burst from her back like smoke being forcefully expelled, and Myra screamed.

Her scream was not like that of a human.

No.

It was like that of an animal. It was guttural. It was like the scream of a soul that was being stripped naked in a cold universe.

The city trembled due to the power that was in her scream. Despite her losing her mana core, she was a Mystic Being and the power she could unleash was immense when unrestrained.

Hundreds of meters away, statues cracked. Dead spirits turned. The ground vibrated. And houses trembled.

Meanwhile, Corey simply stood and watched with his hands inside his pocket from the rooftop of a two-storey building.

The baby arms trembled slightly in the air, and Corey could see them all ’staring’ at him.

He could feel their rage, frustration, and surprisingly... disgust as they stared at him.

He tilted his head slightly with a baffled light, and then his gaze shifted toward the trembling and crying Myra.

’I see.’

He suddenly understood why the ghostly baby arms were disgusted.

What they wanted to take was his sense of touch and mana core.

Not that of Myra’s.

If he was to guess, the source of the arms had most likely perceived the quality and purity of his mana when he was fighting Eidolon, and it wanted to take the source of his mana.

It desired it.

But what it got at the end of the day was Myra’s mana core which was like a speck of dust compared to the totality of heaven.

How could the arms not be disgusted when they consumed Myra’s mana core instead of his Infinity Crystal.

He had no idea if the source of the hands knew that he possessed an Infinity Crystal or Infinity Crystals in him.

He also had no idea if the baby arms would have been able to take his Infinity Crystals since they were unlike normal mana cores.

As for why the arms wanted to take his sense of touch, he had no idea.

Although he had no answers to these questions, he had no desire to find the answers to these questions.

The baby arms retreated slowly into the fog despite their frustration and unwillingness.

Although they had not truly achieved their goal, they had achieved a goal.

They had taken.
