CHAPTER 429: CHAPTER 401 MOTHER AND DAUGHTER_2

"It’s not inconvenient at all; rather, it’s quite novel."

Hearing that Kane and the others didn’t mind, Bernard nodded and continued to lead the way.

Upon reaching the second floor, they saw a series of corridors, with large and small doors on both sides.

The room itself was quite tall, and on either side, one could see maids of various races dressed in maid outfits.

As Kane and his group passed by, these maids would slightly nod as a greeting.

After walking through the corridor, Bernard led them to a newer section, where the decor and the surroundings were nearly identical, but Kane noticed some details suggesting this area had recently been renovated.

"These are your rooms. You can rest well now, and I will come to guide you to dinner later. If you have any questions, the maids around will be more than happy to assist you."

"Alright, thank you."

With Kane and others’ reply, Bernard bowed slightly and then took his leave.

Kane and his group pushed open the doors in front of them and entered a rather spacious living room, with four doors of varying sizes in sight.

The entire living room seemed very new, as if it had never been inhabited before; all the furniture and decorations appeared to be recently finished.

They each took a look at their respective rooms, and each was tailored to their race and physique, with even a small flower room specially built for Lirulu to serve as her room.

"Is it really that well-prepared?" Longbei remarked while looking at everyone’s rooms.

A room for Dwarves and Humans together made sense to Longbei, but to have a whole fairy flower room specially for Lirulu seemed excessive.

Who would build a fairy resting flower room in their own home, perfectly fitting Kane’s team?

"This should be newly built, maybe since the last time Kreya came back and mentioned us, they decided to renovate just in case?" It seemed like the most plausible reason from various clues, also hinting at Kreya’s family’s wealth.

Elsewhere.

Kreya and her mother strolled leisurely down an elegant corridor, followed by a young maid with a horn growing on her head, walking beside Kreya.

"You seem to really like your captain," said Fortuna softly as they walked.

Hearing this.

Perhaps because she was at home and just chatting with her mother, Kreya wasn’t as flustered as before, with only her ears slightly flushed.

Kreya didn’t answer her mother’s question; instead, she retorted, "How did you figure that out?"

She always felt she hadn’t shown any intimate gestures with Kane in front of her mother, so how did she get found out?

Hearing her daughter’s question, Fortuna covered her mouth, chuckling softly.

Seeing her mother’s expression, the redness in Kreya’s ears began to spread. She walked over and wrapped her arm around her mother’s wrist.

After laughing for a while, Fortuna answered her daughter’s question, "The last time you came back, in the evenings while your father and I were resting, we sensed transmissions going out from the estate every night, and it was quite clear too."

"Huh?" Kreya was instantly shocked, realizing she had been found out back then: "So you both heard it all?"

Fortuna looked at her daughter, covering her mouth and laughing, not directly answering the question.

Kreya now wished she could dig a hole at home and crawl into it, having her private conversation with her lover eavesdropped on by her parents.

She now felt as if she wanted to disappear from this world, hoping everyone would forget her.

No, Kane mustn’t forget about her.

By now, they had arrived at their destination, stopping in front of the door before opening it and walking inside.

The maid who followed them quietly stayed at the door and closed it behind them.

This room was Kreya’s, where she went to a dressing table. Kneeling gracefully with her four horse-like legs, she seated herself in front of the mirror.

Then she untied the ribbon in her hair, gently turning her head, and her mother stood beside her, picking up the comb from the dresser to gently brush Kreya’s hair.

Whenever they reunited after some time apart, mother and daughter would be like this, and even when they wanted to have heart-to-heart talks, it was always this way. The act of brushing her hair helped soothe Kreya.

A small ritual between mother and daughter.

As the comb glided softly through Kreya’s smooth red hair,

Fortuna spoke,

"Raised among your father and many knightly uncles, you never quite grew up like a typical girl, loving your swords and armor, passionate about martial arts and combat."

"Though I often urge you to be elegant and dignified, I know you long to run free like a colt, so I didn’t stop you when you wanted to become an Explorer."

"Who would have thought in just a year, my sweet daughter would be whisked away by some detestable young human boy."

At this, Fortuna’s face took on an exaggeratedly fierce expression, then she said somewhat mournfully, "Though, I had known for some time."

Kreya saw her mother’s expression through the large mirror and couldn’t help but curl her lips into a slight smile.

"Do you really love him, or is this just a fleeting impulse? You must know you have a much longer lifespan than humans."

Fortuna watched her daughter with concern; she didn’t want her daughter to spend centuries mourning over a husband’s grave.

Her mother’s question was something Kreya had never considered, because when an Explorer reaches the gold level, their lifespan extends significantly, and with further advancement, lifespan ceases to be an issue.

And certainly, she would reach gold, with Kane being even more capable, so this issue had never entered her thoughts.

"Kane is really amazing."

Looking at her daughter’s face, filled with sweet memories,

Fortuna smiled too, gently asking, "So why not share with your mother, tell me a bit about your story?"

"Okay."

Kreya began to narrate softly and briefly about her encounter with Kane, her voice transitioning from a shy whisper to a more proud and boastful tone.

Observing her daughter’s demeanor and the sparkle in her eyes, Fortuna could tell that silly human boy indeed won her daughter’s heart.

"...and that’s how it was." Kreya took a slight pause, finishing the tale about herself and Kane.

Fortuna, smiling, patted her daughter’s head, then asked, "What kind of hairstyle would you like?"

"Tie it up with a hairpin," Kreya suggested as something came to mind.

"Hairpin?" Fortuna looked puzzled, not having heard of such a thing.

Kreya gently took out a box from her space equipment where she stored valuable items.

Seeing the patterns on the box, Kreya’s smile grew even sweeter. She gently unlatched the lid and slowly opened it.

Inside lay a gemstone, like the night sky full of stars.

The gemstone was affixed by some invisible material, extending down to a long, slender transparent pin, like a chopstick.

Carefully, she handed the hairpin to her mother, saying, "Be careful not to break it."

Fortuna took it and lightly twirled it in her hand to examine.

From Kreya’s treasuring manner, it was obvious this gift must be from Kane.

Looking at the beautiful gemstone atop the transparent pin, Fortuna recognized it.

That cheeky boy was quite generous after all.
