Skill Extraction: Exploring Dungeons
Chapter 58 - Fifty-Eight: The Great Cemetery
CHAPTER 58: CHAPTER FIFTY-EIGHT: THE GREAT CEMETERY
The bright sky of the dungeon suddenly dimmed.
Kane and his team waited for the tremor to stop.
When the tremor ceased and the competition officially began, Kane started to observe the surroundings.
This time, the environment was shrouded by a dim night sky and pervasive mist.
With eyes as sharp as an eagle’s, he carefully scanned the surroundings. These mists carried a faint magic power, capable of crudely concealing magical reactions.
Kane warned his teammates, "Be careful, these mists are interfering with my scans."
Although the dense light points of magical reactions in the air were interfering, solid magic power groups were still relatively easy to spot. But it’s better to be cautious.
Kreya looked at the dim surroundings and reached out to retrieve a lantern from the void.
The lantern floated beside her, emitting a bright and soft glow, illuminating the surroundings at once.
The stone floor of the arena had turned into a dirt ground, which was somewhat damp and gave off a rotten smell.
The areas covered by mist also revealed their original appearance; rows of tombstones stood around, some leaning to one side in disrepair.
Kane noticed the sudden brightness around him and turned to Kreya.
The centaur winked at him.
"You are always so considerate."
Holding his weapon, he led his teammates forward.
The shoes crunched on various fragments of gravel on the ground, uncertain which tombstone the pieces had fallen from.
After only a few steps, a bone-chilling cold wind blew, carrying an acrid, rotten stench.
It was nauseating.
Longbei sensed this breeze and immediately noticed something was wrong.
"Something’s not right; this wind is suspicious. This might be an undead-themed dungeon."
As soon as Longbei spoke, everyone’s minds were filled with this level’s completion objective.
Eliminate the necromancer hidden in the great graveyard.
It seemed Longbei had uncovered the basic information for this level.
The necromancer’s undead legion was more than just skeletons.
The tricky ones are the immune ghosts, the walking dead with corrosive poison, and the undying knights.
Meizike silently took out three bottles of milky-white potions, glowing with holy light, from his belt.
He divided the potions among Kane’s group, saying, "Holy Light Enchanting Potion, the bane of the undead."
Kane looked at the potion in his hand; his teammates were all exceptionally talented, having prepared everything they needed.
Because his teammates were so reliable, it might make him seem like an ineffectual leader.
Watching his teammates open the potion and pour it onto their weapons, the luminescent milky-white liquid automatically adhered to the weapons, slowly enveloping them.
He looked at the potion in his hand, pondering how to enchant it.
After some thought, he pinched out a block and poured the Holy Light Enchanting Potion over it; the potion slowly enveloped the transparent block.
Once the enchantment was complete, the block was no longer transparent but emitted a faint glow.
Kane decided to use the materials on this block to craft arrowheads, achieving the same effect of severely damaging the undead.
Everyone watched Kane’s knack for odd solutions.
"Sometimes, I really think Kane’s skills are convenient."
Upon hearing Longbei’s comment, the other two nodded in agreement, expressing their envy.
Now that all preparations were complete, it’s time to hunt the necromancer.
Due to the mist’s cover, magical reactions that were too distant would be completely disturbed.
They could only walk freely in the graveyard, discovering magical reactions when nearby.
As they proceeded, the further they went, the more damaged the tombstones became.
Some graves had even been dug up, with some skeletal remains scattered on the ground.
A magical reaction appeared in the grave ahead, and Kane immediately led his teammates over.
"There should be a monster down there, why isn’t it coming out?"
Kane stood on the tomb, noting the unresponsive magic power group beneath his feet.
He prodded it with his long spear, prompting the magic power group to begin moving.
Could it be asleep?
A shriveled arm suddenly extended from the ground, straining to rise and push open its tomb.
As the undead creature emerged, Kreya was waiting beside it, swiftly decapitating it with a single sword stroke.
The longsword infused with holy light cut through the withered walking dead in front of them as though a hot knife skimmed through butter.
With the collapse of this mummy, the entire graveyard seemed enraged.
The breeze became a gale, and the sparse deadwood in the graveyard rustled in the wind.
They heightened their vigilance and continued to advance through the graveyard.
Not once more did they encounter a solid magical reaction along the way.
After walking for about half an hour, Kane was perplexed upon seeing the edge of the white mist in front of him.
This level of the dungeon had come to an end.
"Could the necromancer be hiding? Apart from the initial walking dead, how come we haven’t even seen a single skeleton on the way?"
Even when Kane asked, Kreya and the others could not respond, they too were frustrated.
"Forget it, let’s keep exploring around."
With that, they began to wander aimlessly through the graveyard.
It didn’t take long for Kane to notice a creeping magical reaction ahead.
"Quick, quick, there’s a monster ahead, let’s go."
The voice was somewhat excited as he led his teammates in the direction of the magical reaction.
Upon seeing the creature, it ignored Kane and the others, frantically crawling forward.
The walking dead, missing its lower half and appearing pitiful, made Kane hesitant to attack it, were it not for its hideous appearance.
Kane watched as the walking dead continued crawling forward and suddenly suggested, "Why don’t we follow it and see where it goes."
Since the objective’s location was unknown, following this creature might be a good choice.
The group began to follow behind the walking dead, strolling slowly.
Before long, Longbei started to complain.
"Can’t this thing crawl any faster?"
Having only crawled 4 or 5 meters, it’s going to take forever at this pace.
Kane pondered for a moment, approached the walking dead, and created a small cart behind it to speed it up.
Sure enough, with the cart, the walking dead’s crawling speed was close to a regular person’s jogging pace.
Kane and his team followed the walking dead around, which occasionally took sudden turns.
The more they followed it, the more bizarre it seemed.
Kreya curiously remarked, "Could the necromancer really be hiding from us?"
Although the walking dead led them in circles, Kane and his team indeed found some traces along its path, prompting their suspicions.
"But why, why would it hide from us?"
Kane was perplexed; after all, monsters in the dungeon were replicated, having limited intelligence, and shouldn’t distinguish Explorers from enemies.
This deliberate evasion of Explorers was suspect.
With no alternatives, they continued to follow the walking dead’s roundabout path.
Finally, the walking dead stopped turning and headed straight in one direction.
