Chapter 60—Demons with no king!

Greenbriar City.

In the Sunflower Inn, fourth floor, room 417.

The black rays of the sun slipped through the white curtains and fell on the shirtless sleeping boy lying on a soft wooden bed, around fifteen to sixteen years old.

He had short purple hair, a lean, fit body with clear six‑pack abs and well‑shaped muscles. His face was sharp‑jawed with a straight nose and soft lips, and his skin tone sat perfectly between white and brown—just right.

"Ah... this damned sunlight," he muttered, ruby eyes snapping open into an irritated scowl.

"Trained too hard yesterday... now I can’t even sleep properly," he grumbled, standing up and walking toward the curtains. He yanked them shut, blocking the light.

He nodded in satisfaction as the room dimmed, but his drowsiness had already vanished.

He freshened up quickly and took a bath.

Standing before the full‑length mirror in the room, he got a complete view of himself.

"Not bad. Very handsome," he murmured with a smug grin, eyeing the youth in light armor, twin swords at his right hip, and a full violet cloak lined with thick fur at the collar.

An adult human’s fist‑sized black orb hung from his neck on a chain. A faint wisp of black energy seeped from it.

’It’s almost time... That demonic slime should be in Ruins City Lunxia by now... I have to kill him before he brings chaos again,’

he thought, his eyes turning cold as murderous intent spilled out.

"I won’t let him repeat what he did in my previous life," he vowed quietly, before departing.

Back to the slimes...

"She’s just one of billions of followers of the Sun Goddess and Moon God...She turned corrupted as even though she’s just a low-level follower..." the white‑robed woman stammered, lowering her head as if she could feel the end of humanity approaching.

The blue‑haired woman paled at those words as she came near.

"How many years has it been since she joined the church?" Elder Slime asked, looking at the burned dust that the wind carried away.

Wob! Red Slime returned to his normal form and stood beside him, sweating and exhausted from his skills—yet he still had enough reserves to maintain Fire Chains.

"Twenty years... and she recently became a trainee priest," the white‑robed woman answered.

Then her eyes brightened with a fragile hope. "Then... do only trainee priests get corrupted? Does that mean the billions of followers are safe?"

She wanted to believe the corruption only began from the priest‑training stage.

"Nope. They’ll be corrupted too—just slower. Even that woman wasn’t fully corrupted. The seed of corruption inside her was triggered when she died," Elder Slime explained flatly.

"Then..." She looked at the slime in front of her, expecting more. He knew far more than anyone she had ever met.

A chill ran down her spine as she imagined the followers of the Sun Goddess and Moon God mutating into unholy creatures and flooding out to devour all life ’It’s too creepy... too dangerous...’ She shook her head, trying to erase the image.

"Yeah, they can be saved... if the corruption hasn’t gone too deep," Elder Slime nodded, seeing the hope in her eyes.

"How can we save them?" she asked. She wanted to save them all—but Pat!—she felt a touch on her back.

"Right now... we survive first," the blue‑haired woman whispered in her ear.

’Idiot Mom... We need to survive first... and you’re still thinking about everyone else,’ the daughter fumed silently, furious with her mother’s selflessness.

Her daughter’s words dragged the white‑robed woman back to reality. She didn’t even know if she could return alive, let alone talk about saving others.

"You need to wash their bodies with Purification Surge, a rare Holy Light skill," Elder Slime said. He felt he had to share this, not knowing how many followers those two churches had.

’If they all fully corrupt, they could destroy the whole world,’ he thought with a scowl.

"A rare skill..." the blue-haired woman muttered—then snapped, "Do you know how tough it is to find the people who possess rare skills—especially in Holy Light, one of the rarest elements?....And do you think they would listen?"

"That’s the only way," Elder Slime simply wobbled his body.

"Okay... I know someone from the Church of Light who has it," the white‑robed woman said, then hesitated. "But... will followers of the Church of Light also be corrupted?"

He shook his body in denial. "No. Even if the entire world is corrupted, the Goddess of Light and her followers won’t ever be corrupted. Holy Light itself rejects unholy energy."

"Good. Then we still have a chance," the white‑robed woman said, finally managing a grin.

"By the way, do you know about the Teakuluna Calendar?" Elder Slime asked. He suspected she might answer; she seemed well‑read in history.

"Yes... I’ve heard of it. It’s an old calendar, used almost ten million years ago," she replied, though doubt flickered on her face. ’Why does he want that detail?’

’What... No wonder... No wonder the world has changed so drastically...’ Elder Slime thought grimly, feeling ancient.

"So, what about the Malzura Calendar? Why is it called Malzura?" he pressed. He needed to know. There was always a reason behind a calendar’s name.

She glanced at him deeply before answering calmly, "The last Demon King, Malzura, sacrificed herself in the Sixth Great Unholy War to protect Divinara and to prove that demons weren’t betrayers."

"Sacrificed... and last? You mean demons have no king now?" he asked in disbelief, his body wobbled in shock, ’And there were more Great Unholy Wars...’

The name of the one who turned the tide of war became the new calendar’s name, each one starting directly from the end of a war to honour them.

"Yeah... and there’s a rumour...that Demon King Malzura fell because of humans," the blue‑haired woman added nervously, glancing between her mother and Elder Slime.

Her mother didn’t stop her daughter from revealing it.

’Damn humans... still clinging to their grudges even in a war like that...Even in a battle against unholy creatures that could wipe us all out, they killed an ally just for old revenge...’ Elder Slime seethed, disgust curling inside him.

He still struggled to accept that demons no longer had a king.

’No wonder... No wonder Lunxia fell... and so did the entire demon continent...’ he realized, muttering, "So..."
