Soul Spark
Chapter 11-4 - Restless And Divine
4 - Restless And Divine
[MEANWHILE IN TOKYO]
Quakes upon quakes took place in the GSC headquarters. The various members, most of which were his puppets, were scrambling to escape the building as fast as possible.
“He’s...”
“I’ve never seen him like this.”
Miyuki held onto the desk in Kaito’s office. He felt the destructive forces around him, he feared that one of the blasts would be strong enough to collapse the building altogether. Miyuki was a soulful, but he didn’t have enough soul prowess to withstand an event like that.
“He may have been a bad parent, but he made sure Hiroshi was safe.”
He took a deep breath.
“It must be tough to lose your son, I guess...ordinary people feel this exact way, except he’s the only one with enough power to act like this. He’s lost it.”
“In all of his years of being Hiroshi’s father, this is the first time the latter’s life was genuinely under risk. The Heisei’s unresponsiveness after the raid, and the fact that-”
His thoughts were cut short by a loud crashing noise outside. A chunk of the building fell on the ground. Miyuki clenched his fists a little.
“I have probably spent more time with Hiroshi than he has. I’ve looked after him, taken care of his needs, tutored him and even attended parent-teacher meetings. I’ve been more of a father to him than Mr. Kamiki has.”
“But in the end, all I am is his right hand man. His secretary.”
“Back then, when I was offered this position...I couldn’t believe it. I thought I’m the luckiest person in the world. Mr. Kamiki was strangely calm and even charming. The pay was beyond luxurious and no one would dare try and harm me in any way. I thought I made it.”
“It took me quite some time to realize that he’s a shitty person in a lot of aspects.”
“And lately, he’s been acting as if nothing in the world matters than whatever shapes he draws on a whiteboard or whatever faction he wages war against.”
“All while his kid is forgotten about.”
He tried to call a number, but was met with no response. He took some time to reflect on his thoughts, and eventually made up his mind. He really did like the kid, he wished that he was entrusted to him and not Kaito.
“If I can find where Hiroshi is...”
“I don’t think I’ll even tell Kaito about it. I’ll run off with him and make sure he lives a normal, proper life.”
He gazed outside. The windows had gotten a little dusty, he heard another crashing sound.
“Please, whoever has the kid now...”
“Keep him away from this monster.”
He left the room and went to his own office - a much smaller, much cozier one. It was filled to the brim with overflowing file cabinets and bookshelves, with multiple computers on the dark brown desk. Any other secretary would’ve overworked themselves to death in such an environment, but Miyuki was special - he was a prodigy of sorts, exceptionally good at mathematics with superb organizational skills. He was the engine of the ‘paper realm’ of the GSC.
But hidden in one of his cabinets was a paper that he made as soon as he noticed that something was wrong with Kaito.
He slowly opened it and got the paper out.
“My resignation paper...”
“I thought the day would never come.”
“But at this point, I'd rather act on my own beliefs than merely remain someone's secretary.”
He got the paper out and prepared to exit the office.
“I’ll leave my workplace. I really, really doubt Mr. Kamiki would even care about things like papers or politics at this point.”
“I’ll use whatever connections I have to track Hiroshi down myself...and I’ll make sure the kid is in safe hands. Or, at least, hands that care about him at least.”
If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
“That thing I saw back then...”
“I don’t even know if he’s safe near Mr. Kamiki himself at this point.”
He took a deep breath and approached the exit. But before he left the room, he felt a powerful presence approach him more and more. So powerful, in fact, that it became a little difficult for him to breathe or focus properly.
Kaito entered the room.
Most of his chest was decorated with the white, slightly glowing essence. He looked furious, his hands were covered in dust. This was the last person anyone would want to see.
“Miyuki?” Kaito asked. “Did you-”
“I tried, Mr. Kamiki.” Miyuki said. He started mentally preparing himself to break the news. “No response, nothing at all. Most of the agents in America are avoiding us altogether, it seems that the news of Hiroshi’s kidnapping has spread rather fast.”
“Then I’ll have to take care of the ones spreading those news.” Kaito said. “Anything new from the police investigations? Anything at all?!”
“N-nothing...” Miyuki said, feeling a little anxious as Kaito raised his voice.
Kaito took a deep breath, trying his hardest to calm himself down. He then noticed the paper his secretary was holding.
“What is this?” Kaito asked.
“Uh, well...how do I explain it...” Miyuki stuttered a little.
“If it’s something important, quit wasting my fucking time.” Kaito said. “Just say what it is.”
“I...” Miyuki collected himself.
“I can’t let this monster anywhere close to that kid.”
“This is my resignation paper.” Miyuki said, with all of the courage he mustered up. To be fair, breaking that kind of news to Kaito of all people requires a lot of it. “I’m leaving my p-p-position as your secretary, Mr. Kamiki. I’m sorry.”
“You’re...leaving me?” Kaito asked, grabbing the paper and reading through it. “Really?”
“Y-yes. I’m sorry, but-”
“You’ve had this for a while, haven't you?” Kaito asked, taking a step forward. Miyuki was forced to take a step back. “Doesn't look freshly printed. Looks pretty neat too, you've poured quite some effort into this thing.”
“I was...considering leaving the position as soon as the war with the stronghold began.” Miyuki replied. "To be fair, I was overwhelmed by the-"
“I see how it is.” Kaito continued walking forwards, almost as if he knew Miyuki would just walk back. “You know, you’ve been my most trusted associate for such a long time. It’s going to be a shame to see you go, especially right now. A time that is...pretty fucking suspicious, you know?”
“Wha-” Miyuki tripped and fell down. Kaito stood over him.
“You’ve been meddling a little too much in my personal life recently. And just as the news breaks out, you immediately grab this paper and try to run away.” Kaito said, flaring up his presence. “I really, really don’t like this pattern, Miyuki.”
“Wha- are you suggesting that I was involved in this?!” Miyuki asked, raising his own voice out of fear. “I didn’t! I...I had nothing to do with this! I worry about Hiroshi more than any-ahh, I mean, I worry about him a lot!”
“First the Heisei disappears, and now you...” Kaito said, his eyes looking a little unhinged. “Did you schedule that meeting among the head GSC members yet?”
“I did...”
“Good.” Kaito said, summoning his weapon.
“W-wait, I didn’t betray you!” Miyuki said. He was telling the truth. “I would never be stupid enough to betray you! I...I care about Hiroshi, I want him to be safe! I...I’m not a traitor!” But it looked like Kaito wasn’t even listening.
“I don’t care if you were.” Kaito said. “I don’t need you anymore.”
He stabbed Miyuki in the chest.
The latter struggled to breathe, blood gushed out of his wounds. He tried to hold the blade, but his body was already weakened by the penetration. He tried standing up, but couldn’t. Blood escaped his mouth.
"You..." Miyuki whispered, his fate finally giving him the courage to speak. "You don't deserve Hiroshi..."
A moment later, a blast of divine fire escaped Kaito’s blade, burning and shredding Miyuki to pieces and destroying a large chunk of the room as well. Kaito watched the burning remnants of the corpse for a bit before unsummoning his weapon and turning around.
“All of them, every single one of them...”
“They all betrayed me, didn’t they? Waiting for the right moment, for when the Heisei would be at its weakest...”
“That fucking Mukawa...he’s involved in this, isn’t he?”
He tried to calm himself down, but it didn’t work out. He released a flaming slash at the room, destroying it completely and exposing the outside. He threw more and more slashes, ripping through and decimating all the buildings they came into contact with. He clasped his hands and formed a pale flaming arrow, which, upon impact, destroyed a large chunk of the area, leaving almost nothing behind.
“These...fucking...soulless pigs...”
“How dare they take my son away from me?”
“The one last thing that I care about, how dare they?!”
He got his phone out, he wanted to call Miyuki but he remembered that he just killed him. He stared at the destruction.
“Looks like I’m completely on my own now. And I can’t find where that old fart is, he’s not in his place in Venice that’s for sure.”
“You’re wrong, you still have me.”
The light around him became more sensitive, almost as if he could see every beam of light. He heard a gentle female voice.
“I’m here, okay?”
“Okay.” Kaito said. His eyes looked wounded, but his morale went up. “Right.”
“We’ll take care of this.”
