Chapter 389: Penny’s Situation
CHAPTER 389: PENNY’S SITUATION
"Wait... Wait a goddamn second here!" Penny shouted, her hands flying to her face. Her eyes were wide, her disbelief palpable. "You mean... Arachne isn’t just some symbolic mother figure to Adam? She’s his actual mother?!"
Rachel’s grin spread wider, sharp with mischief as her mind raced with teasing possibilities. "Hold on... wait. Does that make you a demigod, Adam?" she asked, leaning forward slightly, her tone playful. "Because, you know... gods plus humans equals demigod, right?"
Adam’s jaw tightened, and his fists clenched involuntarily. He opened his mouth to snap back, but before he could, Aria stepped forward, her posture graceful, her voice gentle but firm. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Lady Arachne," she said politely, inclining her head slightly. "I’ve heard a great deal about you."
Ethan, having recovered from the earlier uppercut, rubbed his jaw and let out a low whistle. "Well, well," he said, smirking despite the lingering sting. "Look at that. Aria being all polite to Adam’s mom like she’s some kind of in-law or something. You’re laying on the charm, huh?"
Aria’s eyes widened, and her cheeks flamed a deep crimson. Her hands twitched at her sides, and she looked as if she might combust from embarrassment.
Vivian’s gaze sharpened instantly, her patience snapping. Without a second thought, she stepped forward and delivered a vicious kick directly to Ethan’s face. He crumpled to the ground, unconscious once more, the room filling with a heavy silence.
Vivian bent slightly at the waist, her eyes narrowing as she looked down at him. "Honestly, someone needs to give him a proper beating. Maybe then he’ll finally learn to keep his mouth shut," she said, her voice cold and precise.
Aria’s eyes sparkled with temptation, and her fists clenched. The thought of joining Vivian in punishing him flickered across her mind, her internal struggle visible in the tight line of her jaw and the flush creeping across her face.
Leo, noticing her hesitation, stepped forward, placing a firm but reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Aria, wait," he said, his tone calm yet authoritative. "Remember, Arachne saved all of our lives once. If you need help, I’ll gladly step in, but let’s not lose focus on what matters. We can handle him later."
Arachne’s eyes flicked toward Leo, a brief twist of surprise and perhaps wariness crossing her face. She studied him carefully, her gaze lingering, but there was a clarity to his expression she could not mistake. She could sense the sincerity behind his words and in his intent.
Aria exhaled sharply through her nose, her blush deepening, but she nodded slightly, forcing herself to resist the immediate urge to act on her initial instinct.
Rachel leaned back with a mischievous smirk, her eyes sparkling as she watched Adam, who was silent, his gaze fixed stubbornly on the floor. "Well, look at that," she said. "Your whole family dynamic just got a whole lot more... complicated. And here I thought today couldn’t get any more interesting."
Greg shook his head, a faint, amused smile tugging at his lips. "I have to admit, I didn’t see that coming. Adam’s mom, huh? That’s... a lot to process."
Penny, still fanning herself with her hand in disbelief, muttered, "First two months of freezing, then a school of powered humans, and now this? I swear, my brain is filing a complaint."
Adam’s lips curled into a faint, almost amused smile as he looked at Penny. "Well, that would require you to have a brain to start with, little brat. You will be fine~"
Penny’s fangs bared instantly, her eyes narrowing dangerously. "Well, unlike you, I now have a very serious and potentially dangerous situation. It’s all your fault!"
Luna tilted her head curiously, her brows knitting together. "A serious situation? What do you mean?"
Penny pointed at Adam, her expression grave as if the fate of the world rested on her question. "Because Adam is the son of a Goddess and I’m his niece, does that mean I’m related to a God? And what am I supposed to call Arachne? Grandma since she was with my grandfather, or Auntie?"
The room froze instantly. Every eye in the room widened and even Rachel’s smirk faltered as the absurdity of Penny’s dilemma sank in.
Arachne’s eyes narrowed, a vein visibly popping at her temple as she turned sharply to Adam. "Is this little vampire being serious or is she just trying to mess with me?"
Adam let out a long, tired sigh, his shoulders slumping slightly. "She is being utterly serious."
Arachne’s gaze softened immediately, but it was a peculiar, almost pitying look. She turned her full attention to Penny, who bristled at the expression, her fangs still visible in irritation.
Penny shot her a glare, quietly offended. The look on Arachne’s face was not harsh or angry. It was as if she were staring at someone who was mentally disabled, completely oblivious to the fact that everyone else in the room was now mirroring her expression.
Rachel stifled a laugh behind her hand, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Oh my god. She is actually thinking about it. She really is."
Greg rubbed his temples, letting out a low groan. "I cannot believe this is what we are dealing with right now. Are we seriously discussing family titles in the middle of all this?"
Luna blinked slowly, still curious, though now more hesitant. "So you are really worried about what to call her?"
Penny crossed her arms, her jaw tight as if the gravity of her problem could not be overstated. "Of course I am. This is extremely important. One wrong word and I could ruin the family hierarchy completely. Catastrophically."
Aria covered her mouth to hide a giggle, glancing nervously at Arachne.
Vivian’s eyes darted between Penny and Arachne, her lips twitching in barely restrained amusement.
Leo and Greg immediately turned away from the scene, their expressions cracking as they failed to hold back their laughter
Lily’s and Rachel’s bodies trembled as they tried their very best to hold back their laughter while Luna was left speechless.
Adam pinched the bridge of his nose, clearly exasperated at the antics of his niece.
Arachne’s sigh was almost audible. "You are really this serious?" she asked quietly, still looking at Penny with the same pitying expression.
Penny’s nostrils flared as she glared, fangs bared again, blissfully unaware that the room remained frozen in a strange, silent standoff because of her. Everyone trying to process just how absurd Penny’s serious and potentially dangerous situation truly was.
