Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station
Chapter 35: Brutal Methods of Solving Problems
CHAPTER 35: CHAPTER 35: BRUTAL METHODS OF SOLVING PROBLEMS
As the spaceship gradually lowered to a height from where the positions of the Mechanical Race became visible.
Chen Ming’s heartbeat gradually stabilized. He took a deep breath, focusing all his attention on the task he was about to undertake.
Destroy the Mind Pulse Generator.
Chen Ming quickly adjusted the spaceship’s posture so that the bottom armor of the heavily modified vessel faced downward.
Whether this will succeed now hinges on the next ten seconds.
The bullets reached the ground faster than the sound of guns and the roar of the spaceship’s engines.
The splattering dust and fierce sparks immediately alerted the two combat Mechanical Constructs.
They raised their large electromagnetic weapons on their right arms, locking onto the spaceship that flew over their heads, just like last time.
The all-too-familiar dull thudding sound echoed.
The spaceship’s armor panel that Chen Ming had been watching instantly reduced in durability by 1%.
However, this time, there were no words indicating that the armor was breached following the durability value.
And in the three-dimensional imaging of the spaceship, Chen Ming could see that the two bullets hadn’t even penetrated half the thickness of the armor.
"It’s over."
Chen Ming said to himself, stabilizing the spaceship’s posture, reversing direction, hovering over the Mechanical Race.
The two machine guns had already discharged nearly a thousand rounds each since opening fire.
Even though the combat Mechanical Constructs only garnered a few scratches after the barrage of bullets, the Mind Pulse Generator behind them was already riddled with holes from the looks of it.
Maintenance Mechanical Constructs braved the bullet rain, attempting to retrieve metal materials from the equipment’s internal storage space for repairs.
But destruction is always simpler than repair.
Chen Ming replenished the machine guns’ bullets fully, unleashing another volley of two thousand rounds.
Even though Chen Ming controlled the spaceship at the machine gun’s maximum destructive range, a significant number of bullets missed the target due to precision issues.
But when faced with absolute numbers, precision doesn’t matter at all.
Under the second round of crossfire, the protective layer outside the Mind Pulse Generator was completely obliterated.
The circuitry inside continually sparked under the baptism of bullets, and Chen Ming even saw open flames igniting inside the equipment.
There were two more dull thuds.
The third and fourth shots from the two combat Mechanical Constructs once again hit the bottom armor of the spaceship.
This time, these two bullets also failed to penetrate.
However, Chen Ming’s gaze suddenly sharpened.
Because on the spaceship’s three-dimensional imaging, the landing points of those two bullets nearly coincided with the previous bullet hole.
Chen Ming immediately opted to repair the armor; the metallic liquid quickly expelled the four bullet heads, patching up the damages in the spaceship’s armor, restoring it to its original state.
He hadn’t anticipated that the Mechanical Race could have such exaggerated shooting precision.
Giving those two Mechanical Constructs another chance to hit the same spot with two bullets, his thickened armor might indeed have been punctured.
With the Mind Pulse device just a breath away from complete destruction, failing in the ditch now would be a joke.
Chen Ming was profoundly grateful that he didn’t relax his vigilance just because the Mind Pulse Generator caught fire and kept an eye on the spaceship’s status.
Otherwise, any unexpected situation could have caught him off guard with a head-on blow.
Chen Ming withdrew his gaze from the panel. Since he was prepared, there would be no chance for the Mechanical Race to try again.
Whenever any damage appeared on the spaceship, Chen Ming would immediately conduct a repair.
This kind of perforating damage didn’t cost Chen Ming much spiritual power to fix.
Finally, under the relentless gunfire of the two machine guns.
The fire inside the Mind Pulse Generator completely got out of control, erupting in an explosion.
The entire generator shattered into pieces, utterly destroyed.
By this point, Chen Ming’s mission was complete, and he could completely turn around and leave.
Without the influence of the Mind Pulse, hunting wouldn’t be a challenge anymore.
Hence, Chen Ming immediately altered the spaceship’s flight trajectory, moving away from the two Mechanical Constructs still aiming at the spaceship to avoid further attacks.
But when the spaceship completely left their firing range, it came to a stop again.
Because Chen Ming wasn’t planning on leaving just yet.
The destroyed Mind Pulse Generator and the few active Mechanical Constructs still attracted Chen Ming to take some actions.
Only the problem was, Chen Ming’s sole offensive weapon now, the 22mm machine gun, was entirely incapable of penetrating the Mechanical Race’s armor, causing sufficient damage.
And the modifications available on the panel for the machine gun didn’t seem to offer any viable change to this scenario either.
Resolving them seemed only possible through an immature method Chen Ming had thought of before.
Chen Ming opened the panel.
On the panel for the spaceship type, there was such a line.
[Ton-Class: 2000 tons]
This two-thousand-ton tonnage is a number used to roughly distinguish the ship’s tonnage.
Iron Ore No. is a frigate, and frigates can be further subdivided into 500-ton-class, 1000-ton-class, 2000-ton-class, and so on.
Therefore, the specific mass of Iron Ore No. would deviate somewhat from what is displayed on the panel.
If the numbers in the spaceship manual Chen Ming read before were correct.
Then under the standard Earth weight constant, Iron Ore No. should weigh 2209 tons.
The weight constant between Rimu Star and Earth would have some deviations, but wouldn’t differ too much.
Dropping these 2200 tons straight down, Chen Ming didn’t believe anything could withstand it.
The spaceship moved again, returning to where the Mechanical Constructs were earlier.
The three Mechanical Constructs didn’t choose to track the departing spaceship’s route but instead continued guarding the damaged Mind Pulse Generator as if it were their mission.
Seeing Chen Ming’s spaceship return, the two combat Mechanical Constructs raised their large electromagnetic weapons on their right arms, trying to counterattack just like before.
However, the firing intervals of their weapons became their most fatal issue now; a single bullet was absolutely incapable of puncturing the thickened armor.
The two different Mechanical Constructs also couldn’t simultaneously hit the same spot from the same angle.
Failing to consecutively hit two shots meant the previous damage would be immediately repaired by Chen Ming.
As long as Chen Ming’s mind held out, the Mechanical Constructs could never penetrate the heavy armor in their life.
At this moment, Chen Ming, brimming with a bit of uncontrollable excitement, controlled the spaceship to continuously accelerate, crashing towards the ground from the sky as if falling.
He only activated the spaceship’s buffer device at the utmost height.
The spaceship, still carrying terrifying gravitational acceleration, continued approaching the ground.
The Mechanical Constructs instantly realized something was wrong and immediately headed towards the nearest wooded area that could serve as cover.
However, they had just run dozens of meters before being completely overshadowed by the shadow of Chen Ming’s spaceship.
In the Mechanical Constructs’ futile struggle of firing their guns, a terrifying weight bore down upon them.
