Space Odyssey: Spectre
Chapter 123 - 123: Entering the Asteroid
"Helmet cameras on," Jace told his squad after he put on his helmet and turned it on. Unlike the shock troopers and other Spectres their new armor was all black. Just to mirror the fact they were doing covert operations in a foreign territory. There were no marks indicating who they were.
He looked around for a moment as his heads up display had the status of all his squad labeled as uninjured. While his own body outline was in the corner and indicated no damage on any parts of his armor. He moved around his limbs for a moment and frowned at the feeling and then looked over at Nina who was moving around similarly.
"It always annoys me that these armors can''t keep up with us Spectres." Jace noted through the shared communication channel.
"Agreed, I wish they would finish our specially made armors already." Nina agreed while the others groaned and grumbled.
"You know you Spectres are freaks of nature. I mean the nano system barely considers you human at all." Charlie pointed out as she was fixing specially made armor so her missing arm could be replaceable in the field. At the moment she was sporting an external plasma shield component in her arm.
Jace shook his head as he stepped forward and started arming himself. He pulled out a Pyre and placed it in his holster as he checked it over for damage. He grabbed four additional magazines and placed them on his person in various pockets. He then pulled out the Spectre Combat Knife, he had one down on Nymph as well but he had to return it along with the rest of the equipment.
The Spectre Combat Knife was different from normal knives because its edge was made of a stable lava material that was sharpened to an edge. It cout through almost anything but the tradeoff was its weight which was not an issue for either Nina nor Jace. Nina had two smaller ones instead of the standard single one like Jace had.
Then Jace grabbed two smoke grenades, three door breaching charges, and a block of High Explosive Putty. As Jace was putting them away on his person he received a strange look from Tako who was holding a few EMP grenades.
"Boss? You are not going to take any EMP grenades?" Tako asked in surprise while the rest of the squad began laughing and Tako made a motion like he was about to hit his face in embarrassment. "Nevermind, I realized how stupid of a question it was as soon as I asked."
Jace turned back to the equipment table and pulled up a Spitfire Submachine gun from its place on a rack. He started adding components to it like a stock and a vertical grip. Then after looking over everything he grabbed five magazines and placed them on his person as well. Then after confirming he had all of his more violent equipment he went over and started grabbing the utility equipment he would need.
Once he was done he did a walkaround looking at his squad''s loadouts and trying to catch any errors. He stopped behind Charlie and tapped the grenades that were hanging off the back of her waist. "The jetpack will set those off and then turn you into less than half a person. I suggest you find another place for those."
"Ah! Um… yeah, my bad." Charlie reached back and began moving the grenades to a different position while Jace continued his walk around. He did not adjust anything else. But he did observe that they really took liberty with his nonchalant comment about melee weaponry.
"Okay, get in your ships. Good luck Nina!" Jace called out as he walked over toward his ship. The pilots were doing their preflight checks since they had the time. Once he was aboard he looked back and waved Ulin and Charlie on to the ship while he looked at the other team as they boarded their ship. Then he closed the rear ramp. "We are good back here." Jace called up to the pilots.
Then helped Ulin put on her Jetpack attachment while Charlie put on his Jetpack attachment. After a minute the ship shuddered as it took off. Then Jace put on Charlie''s while Ulin checked Charlie''s work. Then Ulin checked Charlie''s pack and afterwards Charlie checked Ulin''s. Once they were done they stood by the rear ramp with their gear ready. Waiting for the pilot to give them a signal.
For this mission he had chosen to take the harder of the two entrances. That was to say he and his team would be going in through the airlock located near what he considered the top of the facility.
After a few minutes is when they finally received their notice from the pilot over the radio. "We are closing in on your point of entrance. Open the ramp." Jace did as the pilot asked and opened the rear ramp. They had a view of the asteroids and floating rocks passing them by in the pitch black of space. Then the ship began slowing down, "Go-go-go!" The pilot called out and Jace led the way by jumping off the ramp using his jetpack to propel himself in the atmosphere less and gravityless void of space.
He floated to the point which he had programmed as their current objective on their heads up display. He landed with a thud on the rocky exterior right next to the metal airlock. He looked over to see Ulin and Charlie land similarly around the airlock. He then crouched down and wiped away the dust from the airlock controls. Then he pulled out his hacking device and attached it to the terminal.
"Team One has arrived at the airlock." Jace called over the communication channel. "Are Anvil and our transports still picking up our transmissions?" He started hacking through the digital interface of the airlock.
"This is Anvil, your transmission and live helmet footage is still coming through. Team Two has arrived at the hangar and are about to gain access." Jace heard Captain Hammers'' voice through the transmission.
"This is AV-03. We are still receiving signals and are on our way to our preplanned point." Another pilot told them, it sounded like Team Two''s pilot.
"This is AV-08. We are still receiving and are already at our destination point." That was Jace''s team''s pilot as he recognized the voice.
"This is Team Two, we are here but it will take a few minutes to decompress the interior so we can enter." Nina responded in her default robotic voice.
Jace nodded as he finally gained access and began decompressing the airlock so they could enter. They waited a minute before there was a ding and they could enter. Ulin dropped in first, then Charlie and Jace disconnected his hacking device before jumping in the airlock with them. He then connected his hacking device to the terminal interface inside of the airlock.
This time it did not take as much time to hack into the interface. Once he had he closed the external airlock and began the compression process. As it occurred he looked through what other systems he could access but found that all systems were on their own sealed systems.
Which meant he could access another part of the base from any terminal. He would have to find the master terminal in order to gain master access to all of the systems. It was a good way to keep out hackers but it had its pitfalls. Like doing so meant a delayed action or reaction.
Then once the airlock finished its process he opened the other door. It slid open in two directions after the locking mechanisms spun around for a moment. Ulin and Charlie dropped to the floor with a thud landing on their feet. While they raised their weapons in opposite directions of the hall. Ulin had a Scatterflame Shotgun and Charlie had a Spitfire Submachine gun.
Meanwhile Jace used a burst of his jetpack to float and pull out his hacking device before dropping to the ground. He looked down the two direction hallway for a moment confirming their safety before he crouched down and touched the floor.
In his mind appeared a complex maze of rooms and halls. With the larger rooms being towards the center and the power for the facility coming from a room near there. But there were also blindspots generated in his blueprint of the facility.
He transferred the blueprint to a device and then sent it to Team Two and Anvil after a moment. "Anvil and Team Two are you still receiving our signal?" Jace asked over the transmission.
"Team Two hears you loud and clear." Nina responded a moment later. "Are there hidden sections in the map?"
"Affirmative." Jace responded, "AVs Eight and Three are you still receiving our signal?"
"Affirmative. Anvil is still receiving grainy footage from helmet cameras but can no longer seem to get a transmission through to you." One of the pilots responded. Sёarch* The ηovёlFire .net website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.
"Understood. We are beginning our operation." Jace responded while he focused on the map in his mind and found the quickest route to one of those central rooms. He then stood up from his crouched position and began making his way down one part of the white hallway.
