Space Odyssey: Spectre
Chapter 141 - 141: So...guests?
They stayed in the ballroom for another couple of minutes before Jace and Nina along with the other foreign guests were escorted to another room. It was the former throne room of the Leonair family. But people were already going around and tearing down anything that symbolized the royal family. Even the throne was being pulled apart. Being split between useful metals and not useful wood.
There were fifteen foreign guests in the room with them. Most were couples who came as ambassadors of other nations. There was only one person that was flying solo, it was a priest from the Holy Empire of Gregory. He had grouped together and was discussing the defensive pact with the representatives from the New Hexarian Republic and the Circle of Yuri.
They were deciding whether or not this coup would count as triggering the defensive pact. It likely would not since the majority taking part were citizens of Leonair Kingdom. The others like Trentwood only arrived after the coup took place.
Several of the other guests were talking about the impact on trade and commerce. The Leonair Kingdom was a prime trading hub since there were so many trading routes that went through it insead of the Vexical Empire and the Imperium, whose borders were still tightly closed.
Jace and Nina were standing off to the side listening to the various conversations that were taking place. As they were waiting the door to the room opened up and Trentwood walked in. Walking by his side was Jel and Jack again. But this time Jack had a bandage over his nose and his face was slightly red.
The foreign guests looked toward them. The group discussing the defensive pact looked at the armor and then looked at Jace and Nina. Jace shook his head indicating that it was not them.
"I apologize for any issues I have caused the foreign guests of the Leonair Kingdom." Trentwood started. "Before we begin I would like to reinforce the fact that I am speaking to you on behalf of the Leonair Union branch which has seized control of the royal palace and several other buildings. Do you understand?"
The priest from the Holy Empire stood up straighter before clearing his throat and then speaking. "Then why is the head of the Leonair Union branch not speaking with us? We would like to know what will happen to us and what is occurring in this kingdom."
Trentwood shook his head, "since you are foreigners the plan is to escort you to your ships and then out of Leonair territory. I am speaking with you since we will be providing security and protection from foreign invasion while they undergo their change of leadership. As such I will be escorting all of you to a ship in orbit where you will be staying until your ships arrive. As for the status of the Leonair Kingdom, it will be up to the new form of government that the Leonair Union wishes to put in place."
"Is the Vexical Empire assisting in this coup? Because it sure looks like it." The priest asked while glancing at Jace and Nina.
Trentwood looked over to Jace and Nina as well. Jace shook his head, "no we are not. If you are wondering about the Infantry Armor, it has been salvaged. The same is true of several of their spaceships. It appears the Union had managed to obtain a large number of military hardware that was supposed to be decommissioned. We stopped them from doing it, but the damage has been done since it has been happening for a number of years without us noticing." Jace''s answer caused the priest to narrow his eyes in suspicion. "Hey don''t look at me, I am well aware of how incompetent the Inquisitors have been."
"Which is why the Emperor of Vexical secretly created a new intelligence agency to replace them." Trentwood responded. "Isn''t that right, Jace Steel and Nina Diaz?"
Jace raised an eyebrow while Nina blinked in surprise and confusion. She then made several hand motions. He nodded in response, "I know." He then looked at Trentwood and shrugged, "like I said. They were incompetent. I mean… one of the first things we discovered about the Union was that a former General of our military was the head of the organization."
"Then why are you not dealing with him?" The priest asked with a bit more vigor and anger in his voice. The others were also glaring at him.
Jace rolled his eyes, "because of the defensive pact that the Leonair Kingdom has. I mean seriously you are part of that defensive pact, how did you not remember?"
The priest went to speak again but Jel beat him to it. "The Union has legitimacy since we are working with some members of the royal family. Therefore if the Spectres attack or harm their guests it would count as triggering the defensive pact. It is also the reason they did not harm or attack Lord Hoods who they came here to find and capture."
"It is a political headache. But basically we are stuck here and unable to do anything. But just as we cannot do anything to them, they cannot do anything to us." Jace shrugged nonchalantly.
"What a load of bull! The little bitch broke my nose!" Jack yelled angrily.
Jace shook his head, "you came at us with the intention of harming us. Spectre Nina only responded to the threat." He then looked over at Trentwood, "You are aware that we have an Inquisitor spaceship on route to pick us up, correct?"
"I am, my people are watching out for it." Trentwood nodded. "As for Lord Hoods and the ship you arrived in on. Both have seemingly disappeared. Will that be an issue for me later?"
Jace shrugged his shoulders, "I have no clue." Then he thought of something. "About Lord Hoods lab on the edge of the territory-"
"We are aware of it." Trentwood then turned his attention to the rest of the foreign guests. "As for trade, for the time being all trade ships will be escorted through Leonair space by our ships. Travel to and from the country will be temporarily prohibited and trade in Leonair territory is also suspended. Are there any other questions?"
Trentwood discretely revealed earlier that he had a mole in the Vexical''s new Military Intelligence and Logistics Division. Jace was already aware of who it was. But his and Nina''s reports would both indicate that the Union has a mole in MILD. They would also have to indicate that Trentwood purposefully exposed the existence of the Military Intelligence and Logistics Division to several foreign officials who would likely be informing their country at the earliest possible time.
After a few more minutes of speaking and exchanges the foreign guests along with Jace and Nina were escorted toward the landing pad that Trentwood arrived at. While they were escorted there was a clear difference in how they were being guarded.
Jace and Nina had many Infantry armored soldiers around them who were giving the pair a wide berth. While the other foreign officials were being escorted by only a few guards. One of the foreign officials asked Jack who was escorting them about it. S~ea??h the N?vel?ire.net website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.
As for Trentwood and Jel, they had stayed behind to talk with some others some more. Apparently Trentwood would be arriving back on the ship in orbit a bit later. But Jel would be staying to help his country set up their new government.
In response to the foreign officials'' questions, Jack told them that Jace and Nina were able to easily dismantle a mecha with their bare hands. It caused the foreign officials to look at the pair in a new light while many others doubted his words.
So Jack went on to talk about the existence of the Spectres and how the six Spectres were the most elite soldiers in the Vexical Military. They were also tactical weapons that would likely turn the tide of any battle.
They eventually arrived at the box transport that Jace and Nina had watched land. Jace chuckled in amusement as they walked aboard and moved to a pair of seats away from the controls or the exit.
"You cannot be serious. This thing is a death trap. How do you expect us to survive while taking off in this?" One of the foreign officials asked as they were escorted aboard.
"You will be fine." Jack told them and took up position so he would have a view of Jace and Nina. They continued to grumble and complain as they were placed in seats while the guards stood around at the ready.
After a few seconds the box transport shuddered and then took off. It was shaking violently and Jace felt a moment of nausea before it disappeared. His airsickness reared its ugly head for a moment.
But it was nowhere nearly as bad as the foreign officials. Some of which began puking or just collapsed unconscious. The smell was awful as they climbed into the sky for several minutes. Eventually the transport stopped shaking as they were no longer in the atmosphere. Then there was an impact and another shudder.
After a few minutes a door opened and the guards began to escort the puke covered foreign officials out.
As Jace stood he was prodded in the side to see Nina grinning at him. She made a quick motion with her hands. ''Did you get airsick for a second? You looked sick for a second.''
Jace rolled his eyes and pushed her forward so they could get away from the awful smelling box transport.
