Chapter 374: Deceiving Appearances
CHAPTER 374: DECEIVING APPEARANCES
Jace rolled his eyes as he joined them and then he looked down at Cain, "will he tell you anything useful?" Jace asked as he looked down at the unconscious person.
"No, he is still unconscious." Cain answered. "I just dragged him in here. But I found signs of tampering on that truck’s brakes." Cain informed him as it glanced out at the wrecked truck.
"Yeah, I realized that it would have had a catastrophic crash if I had not stopped it." Jace nodded with a sigh. "They were hoping that-"
"Incoming." Peter mumbled, interrupting Jace’s explanation.
Jace looked over and saw a few police cars driving towards them. Their sirens were not on. Jace frowned and focused his eyes for a moment before chuckling. He quietly moved over to the boxes and waved his hand. There was a faint shimmering of air before he walked out with Peter Reese and Commander Tyler to meet the people that were coming in.
As he walked over he kept playing with the orius core openly. The police vehicles pulled up alongside the crashed truck and in the middle of the street. People from nearby buildings were watching from safe spots.
Before, since they were not in the line of the civilians in those buildings just retreated away from view until the fighting stopped. Jace was not worried about them since he could hear they were locking down their buildings and closing everything. It was also why he did not immediately kick the truck. He had to make sure the lobby of the building he would kick it into would be empty.
But now they were watching as the police pulled up without their sirens. Which was odd itself since they could have used them to get around quickly or notify people nearby that they were there. So having them not use them after the fact was strange even to the onlookers. Which was why they were staring at the police as they pulled up.
A man in tactical gear stepped out of the passenger side of a vehicle. He had a very ’man-in-charge’ look about him. The kind of self important person that Jace had grown up seeing rise the ranks quickly before falling down hard.
"What happened here?" The man demanded as he looked around freezing for a moment when he saw Jace was tossing back and forth a ball.
"Terrorists attacked. These former soldiers of the republic who were staying on station assisted in taking them down. Do you have any more questions or are you here just for cleanup?" Jace asked in a smug tone as he spun the ball on a finger and watched as a few of the officers who stepped out of their vehicles tensed up.
"We were in pursuit of the vehicle and lost it. It is carrying dangerous cargo. Do you have it in your possession?" The officer asked as he glanced past Jace to the stack of boxes that contained the weapons.
"Yeah, we figured we should not leave it out in the middle of the street." Commander Tyler answered. A predictable answer, one that caused both Peter and Jace to glare at the man.
"Then we will take possession-"
"Hold up." Jace interrupted him. "Show us your tags and we will let you take it. Otherwise if you take it we are just going to have a problem. I mean you said it yourself, they were carrying some dangerous cargo."
The officer narrowed his eyes before pulling a badge out and showing it to Jace. He looked it over and nodded. "This looks legitimate." Jace handed the badge back, "now do you know what is going on with the internal communication system of the station?" Jace asked.
The officer waved his hand and a few police officers walked past them and grabbed the boxes. Not even bothering to check the contents. The only one they checked was the one with an EMP grenade. "The terrorists blew up a communication tower and there was a cascade collapse within the government and military communication network. Civilian frequencies are fine but other networks are down." He waited with them explaining the situation to them as his people moved the weapons to the trunks of the police cars.
Apparently there were station wide attacks on critical junctures around the ship. It was a coordinated attack that started this morning and continued. The last the officer had heard was that the terrorists were being pushed back. It would not be long before communications were up and running again either.
After the other police finished packing away the boxes of weapons the officer dismissed himself and climbed back into his car. They then began driving down the street. Going in the same direction that the crashed terrorist truck was probably going at first.
A minute after they left, Peter Reese turned to Jace. "Are you sure that was a good idea? Just letting something like that go, especially when we do not actually have a clue if he was who he said he was." Peter pointed out and Commander Tyler looked between them in confusion.
"What do you mean? He was a police officer, wasn’t he?" Commander Tyler asked as he looked back at the disappearing vehicles from earlier.
"I doubt it." Peter Reese answered with a chuckle.
"Not in the slightest bit." Jace responded at the same time. They looked at each other and Jace waved to Peter. Telling him to explain what was going on.
"The officers did not come up with their sirens blaring during a time of an emergency. Then they were more concerned with grabbing the EMP grenades and leaving then they were about casualties, injuries, the dead terrorist, or who the hell we were." Peter Reese explained to a shocked Commander Tyler who seemed to be realizing he was right. "Actually why did you let them leave and what the hell were they so pissed about?"
Jace smirked when he heard what Peter asked. It seemed he had managed to pick up on that as well.
