Space Odyssey: Spectre
Chapter 376 376: Gorund
"Holy hell, what in the forge is this?" The dwarf asked as he walked around the metal shell that made up the hover bike Jace was making. It was still sitting unfinished but as soon as the garage door had opened up the dwarf had seemingly sobered up.
He was still definitely drunk. But as soon as he saw the unfinished hover bike he moved forward with determination as he even set down the barrel of beer he got at the store. He was walking around it touching the metal as he looked.
"I am making a hover bike. For recreational uses of course." Jace answered already knowing that the dwarf was asking about the metal he used, not the design itself. Jace then pointed at the kitchen. "Peter the kitchen is over there. Girls, go help him out."
"Okay." Allie answered and dragged Cho and Jordan over to the kitchen. They would help Peter in the kitchen and hopefully learn how to cook at the same time.
Jace walked to the garage door panels and began closing them as Cain dragged the unconscious terrorist inside. He forgot about him earlier. Cain kept quiet earlier and the police never grabbed him. So Jace just decided to bring him here.
Once he closed the door he helped put the prisoner in a chair and restrained him with some chains. Once that was done he walked over to the dwarf who was running his hands along the Chemi-metal.
At this point he had completely sobbered up. The dwarf's body must be influenced by his current state of mind. Because at this point, Jace was starting to think the dwarf was going to completely forget about his beers. "This metal is almost alive, how did you make it? It definitely was not forged… printed. But could it be forged? Hmm… kid-"
"Jace, you can call me Jace." Jace reminded the dwarf.
The dwarf stopped and nodded, "I apologise. I suppose I never introduced myself either. The name is Gorund Velwrench. Forgemaster of Thessa. Well ex-forgemaster, I was banished because of political shenanigans. Fortunately I could choose the form of banishment so I took an experimental ship that I think jumped to another galaxy."
Jace's eyebrows twitched. "You jumped a ship from another galaxy and they had you working on mechs? Are they morons?" Jace asked with a scoff.
"Eh… I did not tell them. Besides, the ship was complete scrap when they picked me up. I had also erased the records and just about anything else. I was not about to let another offshoot of humans snatch up tech they might not be ready for. But this metal is of a high level, how did you find it?" Gorund explained as he tapped a few pieces of metal.
"Archeology." Jace answered, causing the dwarf to look at him in confusion. Jace shrugged, "long ago there was a race that occupied most of this galaxy. They had advanced technology but were mostly at peace. Then another race invaded and they started developing weapons quickly, but not quick enough. They became extinct before humans started colonizing this galaxy. You have run into humans before?"
The dwarf nodded his head in response.
Jace realized his words were confusing so he specified what he meant. "By before, I mean, you have run into humans in a different galaxy?"
"Yeah, humans are like cockroaches. A large number of races are descended from them and I have seen so many variations. Hell, half the dwarves have at least one or two human ancestors. But I will admit, your galaxy has the most variations without galaxy wide slavery." Gorund explained.
"It sounds like there are some intergalactic groups." Jace pointed out as this was incredibly useful information. "You know you could get quite a bit of benefits if you just told someone about this stuff."
"Yeah… I could also get permission to go back to Thessa if I tell them about that Astral Beast of yours. But I do not because I do not care. My people grew paranoid and suspicious, part of the reason I was kicked out was because I wanted a change. So at this point I am just living as I can. But feel free to ask what you want to know, as long as I can study this metal." Gorund declared as he looked at the metal.
Jace chuckled as he went to ask a question but saw the terrorist woke up. He walked over and tapped him, pulling the electrical current out of his body for a moment and knocking him out again. "I am surprised you did not just ask how to make it."
"Eh… thought about it. But I want to figure out how to forge this metal. Something tells me that it will be a fun activity." Gorund explained as he nodded his head and looked up from his spot. "But what did you say you were building?"
"A hover bike, I plan to make it break any and all rules of the road. It would strictly be for me to use. Mostly because it would be difficult for others to survive using." Jace declared as he walked over to the workbench that had the material converter and grabbed a holographic puck and tossed it to the dwarf.
He caught it and powered it up seeing the starting design. "Nice, it is set up for speed and durability. But the overall design leaves spots for improvements and changes in the design. This is not your first time designing something like this. Come to think of it, most of you use tracks or wheels. I rarely see hover vehicles."
"That is because it is a recent development." Jace answered.
The dwarf nodded before he seemed to think of something. "You got something complete with this metal?"
Jace smirked and walked over to an armored box. Sending an electrical pulse that opened it up to reveal the machine that dresses him in his armor. "Armor, made of the Chemi-metal and created by an armor maker."
There was some whistling from the kitchen. "Hey appetisers are out!" Peter called out. Jace looked over to see some tasty treats. But Gorund was completely focused on the armor.
"Nice. Better than anything we dwarves could make for personal armor. I suppose it makes sense, the Vexical Empire has specifically made developments in that direction. As a galactic entity your galaxy has made technological developments in opposing directions. Then there is the Victorium, all of those races are unique to this galaxy as far as I can tell." Gorund started going off before shaking his head. "Let's have some food, I want to hear how you managed to fit on such a small personal shielding unit."
