Spy-x-War Showdown
Chapter 1404: 1399: Surplus Value
Chapter 1404: Chapter 1399: Surplus Value
The fake act must also be performed genuinely.
Yang Yi almost convinced himself because during the negotiation with Uli Yangke, he was so sincere that he felt he truly shouldered the heavy responsibility of resolving a major crisis.
After ending the call with Uli Yangke, Yang Yi hung up one phone and immediately said to the continuously connected line, “Sir, you heard it, get me the evidence, whether it’s real or fabricated, send it to Cape Town immediately, I’m starting my journey to Cape Town.”
Porter responded without hesitation, “I heard it, I know what to do. Listen, Sea God, you’ve done well. Additionally, I need to remind you of a few things. First, Uli Yangke is unlikely to be the one who killed Big Ivan, and initial assessments indicate Ivan didn’t kill his uncle either, so the real perpetrator is still unidentified.”
Yang Yi said gravely, “Isn’t it possible that there’s no conspiracy at all, and everything was orchestrated by those former naval soldiers? Sir, my opinion is not to worry about who did it or who the real culprit is. The investigation can proceed slowly, but for now…”
Porter whispered, “I understand your meaning, whether or not they did it, it’s all on them now. The reason is simple, it’s all about revenge.”
“Right, can we provide evidence?”
This determines the fate of those involved with Cerberus. Whether they were used as tools or acted out of pure revenge, they are carrying the blame.
Of course, it can’t just be called carrying the blame because the CIA will surely quickly create a complete chain of evidence that makes it look undeniably real. So, it doesn’t matter if it’s a scapegoat, once Karl bears it, he can’t shake it off.
Why don’t Yang Yi and Big Ivan want to solve the aftermath question or find out who wanted to kill Big Ivan? Because it’s unnecessary. The United States will find the scapegoat for them, so everything is according to plan and naturally falling into place.
The matter has reached this point and is almost settled.
With a breakthrough and negotiations possible, it essentially means the negotiation results won’t be too bad. If Ivan really wanted mutual destruction with the United States, he wouldn’t negotiate; it’s simple logic.
Therefore, Porter felt much more settled now, but ultimately it was Uli Yangke who agreed, not Ivan, so there’s still time before anyone can be completely appeased.
“There is evidence, I’ll have someone swiftly sent to Cape Town.”
Yang Yi said in a low voice, “Sir, first tell me if the negotiation is genuine, or is there an intention to seize Ivan amidst the opportunity?”
Porter chuckled bitterly, “Seize him? I’d love to, but given the current situation, is it possible? Can we? Fuck! Has our country turned into a sieve now? Allowing an arms dealer to transport a nuclear bomb into our territory and still can’t find it! Listen, Sea God, someone has to get unlucky this time, but if we handle this well, it might not be a bad thing, understand?”
Why did Porter say this? It’s quite simple, because since 9/11, due to CIA’s incompetence in that incident, Homeland Security was established from the nation’s talents. Thus, CIA experienced a talent drain and lost its status after 9/11.
Now, with proof that an arms dealer could smuggle a nuclear bomb into U.S. soil, CIA could just shift the blame this time, as CIA lacks personnel, money, and resources which Homeland Security takes advantage of. So, certainly, this shouldn’t be pinned on the CIA again, right?
If they handle this matter well, it would be CIA cleaning up for Homeland Security, naturally with some status elevation then, isn’t it excessive to ask for manpower and funding?
Porter daring to say this indicates that no one could hear his current words, and Yang Yi, of course, comprehended the implication. He then quietly said, “I understand, sir. Do I have any competitors now?”
“No! Besides you, no one can contact Ivan. You are indeed the one with the most hope right now. I already reported the call to the President earlier. In short, now we’ve seen a glimmer of hope for stabilizing the situation, you must do well. As previously mentioned, any condition as long as it’s not overly extravagant, can be agreed upon, even fulfill the feasible parts of them. Handle overly extensive conditions yourself, and I will address any false claims, don’t worry, I won’t easily sever your connection line with Uli Yangke.”
This was Porter’s verbal promise not to let Yang Yi take blame, even though verbal promises aren’t terribly significant, but it’s better than saying nothing.
So, this matter is essentially decided.
Yang Yi promptly said, “I’m heading to Cape Town right away, hanging up now. I will report any progress promptly.”
“Counting on you!”
After hanging up, Yang Yi tossed the phone aside, stood up, stretched, and loudly said, “Time to sleep.”
Anton was eating something, turned his head, and said, “Want to eat something? Pizza, the kind from the microwave after being frozen, not tasty.”
“If it’s not tasty, then don’t eat it. Well, no, I’ll have a slice.”
Just now, discussing matters of national importance, and suddenly fretting over the taste of midnight snacks felt so contrasting that it left Yang Yi slightly disoriented.
Brian finished a slice of pizza and said, “Poor Karl, they’ll never return to the United States. But that’s their fate. There’s always some value to be used, even when it seems they’ve already lost usefulness, but digging through reveals they can serve a purpose, even garbage finds recycling, right?”
Anton laughed, “Shouldn’t say that, should you? This whole matter was originally caused by them anyway, the Americans aren’t just squeezing their residual value for no reason.”
Brian said nonchalantly, “Do you think after this is resolved, anyone wants to seriously investigate who killed Big Ivan, whether Karl and them were the masterminds? Will anyone delve into this? Definitely not. To completely quell this situation, it will never be brought up again, so…”
Yang Yi said quietly, “It feels quite bleak for Karl and them, are we being…”
Anton said, “Shut up, and don’t speak. Is there anything pitiful about them? No, they fulfilled their wish, Big Ivan achieved his purpose, and we got four solid members who could never betray or leave the Organization of Water, it’s a three-win situation. What’s pitiful here? Did we overstep?”
Yang Yi was left speechless, Brian said calmly, “In the end, Karl and them have the mark of treason stuck forever, it’s irrevocable, to account for Ivan, the U.S. must eventually find them.”
Yang Yi coughed lightly and said, “Well, I know what’s going to happen, so let’s cease talking about it. Karl and them are just next door, it feels… weird, so let’s not bring this up again, assuming we really killed Big Ivan after all, that name won’t reappear again, right?”
