Spy-x-War Showdown
Chapter 1411 - 1406: In Place
CHAPTER 1411: CHAPTER 1406: IN PLACE
Yang Yi hadn’t discussed the issue of nuclear bombs with Ivan in advance; he proposed it on the spot, and Ivan agreed to his request.
Actually, Ivan was sure to agree to Yang Yi’s request for a nuclear bomb for three reasons.
First, Big Ivan is dead, and Ivan has taken the throne. But who knows if Ivan has truly taken control of Big Ivan’s legacy? Does he have the capability to replace Big Ivan’s position?
If Ivan cannot replace Big Ivan’s position, which means he cannot control Big Ivan’s nuclear bombs, then why would the United States keep Ivan around? If they don’t promptly get rid of him, they’re just waiting for trouble. Thus, Ivan must bring out a nuclear bomb, if only to prove that he has indeed mastered those nuclear bombs.
Secondly, Big Ivan is dead, and Ivan has taken over. The dynamics have changed, especially in regard to relations with the United States. Since Big Ivan is gone, does Ivan want to be hostile to the United States, or does he want to ease tensions? If he wants to ease tensions, how would he prove it? A nuclear bomb would be the most direct evidence. Bringing it out to explain to the people involved from the United States’ side also shows a bit of sincerity from Ivan in resolving the crisis. It’s definitely necessary.
Third, Yang Yi has done Big Ivan a huge favor this time. Both the behind-the-scenes Big Ivan and the front-line Ivan have to offer Yang Yi some benefits. Bringing out a nuclear bomb for their only contact point, Yang Yi, is obviously a concealed benefit. But even the nominal and concealed benefits mean that Yang Yi can use this nuclear bomb to advance his position.
For these three reasons, both Big Ivan and Ivan had to bring out a nuclear bomb, so all Yang Yi needed to do was to say what needed to be said in front of Walter.
Now, Ivan has given Yang Yi enough face, and he clearly stated it was for Yang Yi’s friendship, which was an additional benefit for Yang Yi.
Ivan means that he only trusts Yang Yi — if the United States or the CIA has further matters to discuss, they can only talk to Yang Yi; anyone else won’t work.
Now that the negotiations are over, Yang Yi and Walter can leave.
The two walked out of the manor gates, and as soon as they got into the car, Walter immediately retrieved his phone and said urgently, "I need to immediately report our progress."
Progress, of course, needs to be reported. After all, the situation has greatly eased.
Walter dialed the phone. Soon, he said in a deep voice, "Sir, we have met with Ivan. Now, Ivan assures that he will not use nuclear weapons, and to show his sincerity, he will also disclose the location of one hidden nuclear bomb to us."
Yang Yi extended his hand, indicating he wanted to take the call, and Walter hesitated for a moment before softly saying, "Sir, Sea God requests to speak with you."
After a moment, Walter handed the phone to Yang Yi.
Yang Yi took the phone and immediately said, "Sir, based on our negotiations with Ivan, we can judge that he does not want to detonate a nuclear bomb. Although he appeared very menacing and imposing, he really doesn’t want to detonate a nuclear bomb. Also, under Walter’s insistence, Ivan actually agreed to bring out a nuclear bomb as a show of sincerity, which can be presented in twenty-four hours."
Porter’s voice was very pleased, "Really?"
"Of course it’s true, but I must admit that if it weren’t for Walter’s insistence, Ivan probably wouldn’t have made this concession. The situation has greatly eased now, but I now believe that Ivan truly has control over the nuclear bombs Big Ivan left behind, so military action absolutely must not be rashly undertaken."
"Understood, I will immediately report to the President. You all did very well."
"Sir, should we return immediately or stay here?"
"Return immediately. Write up a report of the negotiation process on the way back. If there’s a need, you might have to personally explain the details of the negotiation process to the President. Alright, there’s a plane waiting for you. Return as quickly as possible. Well, you’ve worked hard, well done."
Yang Yi hung up the phone. When Walter took the phone back, his expression was somewhat complicated. Then, he shrugged and softly said, "Should I say thank you or just stay silent? Better say thank you."
It’s not good to keep all the credit for oneself, and it benefits everyone to share it. The accomplishment from this situation, Yang Yi alone can’t fully claim it, and others can’t take it from him either. The most crucial part is that only Ivan will be in contact with him, so his significant role is irreplaceable. In this situation, why not share some credit with Walter?
Pulling more people onto his side and binding them into his interest chain is better than being a solitary person keeping all the benefits to himself. After all, if you keep everything to yourself, who would be willing to help you?
But Walter definitely has to say thank you. If Yang Yi simply told the truth, his credit would be greatly reduced. Now, Yang Yi made it clear on the call that he’s willing to share half of the credit with Walter; surely Walter ought to express his gratitude, right?
Yang Yi spread his hands and said, "Buddy, we are friends. Earlier, Ivan just wanted to vent his anger. I believe the words you said would have a better effect than mine. I could only dare to ask for one nuclear bomb."
Walter smiled wryly, "Then I’ll also be honest. If I were leading earlier, I wouldn’t have dared to ask Ivan for a nuclear bomb as a show of sincerity since everyone now just wants to quickly ensure that Ivan won’t go crazy, and no one dares to expect Ivan to make a concession."
Yang Yi smiled and said, "I’ll come up with the written report later; you just help me make corrections where needed. It’s not necessary for both of us to write it, is it?"
Walter glanced at Yang Yi, nodded, and then suddenly said, "Now I finally understand why you’ve done so well. Frankly, no one doesn’t like a friend like you."
Yang Yi had given a big enough favor. Sharing half of the credit with Walter, but ultimately there needs to be a story about what actually happened. The two have to coordinate their accounts, right? Discussing how to align their stories can be a bit awkward. Now it’s fine; Yang Yi will directly draft the written report, which will definitely include what Walter did. Later, Walter just needs to copy it, easing his mind without making him feel awkward. Yang Yi handled this perfectly.
Anton escorted Yang Yi and Walter to the airport, boarding a plane that was especially waiting for them. Once on board, Yang Yi began to write his written report.
Yang Yi didn’t use exaggerated language or phrases; he simply wrote plainly and straightforwardly about what he and Walter did and what was said at the time. Of course, Walter’s role was significantly embellished.
After writing for a long time, once the report was done, Yang Yi placed it in front of Walter and said, "Please help me check for any omissions. You can make any necessary edits. I need to rest for a while. We’ll meet again when we land."
Walter shrugged, softly saying, "Thank you, very much appreciated."
