CHAPTER 47: CHAPTER 0048: D-GRADE DESCENT: THE COFFIN’S ENDLESS CYCLE

On Axel’s side, like a god of lightning, Axel was clad in lightning from head to toe, his whole body a pulsating mass of purple and white.

A buzzing sound filled the air as his figure flickered forward. Being more adept at his ability, he could use it far better than Modret.

His body moved at lightning speed, and his hand pierced through a Celestial’s heart, crushing it.

Underneath the lightning, he could still feel the heart struggling to regenerate.

’What a bunch of disgusting creatures...’ he muttered internally. Moving a few specs of lightning from his hand into the body of the Celestial, he incinerated it into ashes.

However, as he killed them, three more surrounded him, causing him to squint his eyes.

Without hesitation, he thrust his right arm forward, the lightning on it forming a lightning rod which split outwards into countless fragments, landing individually in the hearts of more than ten Celestials.

It was obvious that in his fight against the first Celestial they encountered, he hadn’t used more than half of his strength.

Like a flickering shadow, he moved swiftly through the cluster of Celestials in front of him, landing in front of them only a few seconds later.

Snapping his fingers lightly, arcs of lightning danced around all ten Celestials as their bodies were engulfed in light, a purple glow spreading outwards.

The purple light receded as the ten Celestials turned to dust, a breeze sweeping by and drifting them into the wind, brushing Axel’s hair to the side.

Sensing something, he casually turned to the side.

Bang!

His eyes narrowed as he moved his gaze to the sharp ice spike embedded into the wall.

’An ability?’ he muttered internally. However, he didn’t hesitate, his figure turning into a faint afterimage as he reached the Celestial responsible for the attack.

Condensing another ice spike, it hurled it forward. However, Axel’s figure already loomed over him.

Dodging to the side nonchalantly, his hand pierced through its heart. Then, a fountain of lightning erupted from him, engulfing the Celestial entirely.

The Celestial turned to ashes the next instant, drifting about in the room. However, Axel’s gaze didn’t linger on it, turning around to the direction of the coffin where the new Celestial had just formed.

He frowned for a brief instant and swiftly darted in the direction of the coffin to deal with the Celestial.

On Modret’s end, feeling his mind get cloudy, Modret knew he couldn’t fall under an illusion; that would only lead to his death.

He frowned briefly, coming up with a counterattack.

He felt his mana and let out a deep, long breath... as he exhaled, it was as though the black flames on his fingertips had life—they spread outwards, engulfing the whole castle.

To everyone’s astonishment, the black flames were even melting the ice castle.

His feet regained their mobility, and he could feel his mind clear up in the midst of the flames.

He exhaled once more, and the fire spread further, reaching towards the Celestials surrounding him.

They numbered up to twenty, including the three unique Celestials not too far away.

Sensing the abnormality in the surroundings, the Celestials tried to retreat, but the fire was already upon them, engulfing them fully.

Modret drew in a deep breath, causing the flames to surge back to him in a tide, swiftly entering into his body.

Smiling lightly, he exclaimed internally, ’That technique is truly something, to think it consumed more than one-third of my mana reserves.’

However, Modret couldn’t deny it was an interesting technique with much prospects for the future.

He glanced around at the aftermath of their battle with the Celestials, noticing the destroyed castle which was vastly different from the neat and arranged castle it previously was.

Subconsciously, his gaze turned to the system.

[GAINED 8,000 SHADOW FRAGMENTS.]

’So little?’ Modret frowned, calling out the Fairy for an explanation. Based on his analysis, he should have obtained roughly 30,000 Shadow Fragments.

The Fairy materialized in front of him within a few seconds, reading his thoughts before providing a satisfactory answer.

{The reason for the low Shadow Fragments obtained is because of the system’s upgrade. After the upgrade, the Shadow Fragments obtained from all the creatures have been drastically reduced.}

{In this kill session, every Rank 2 Celestial you killed brought you 150 Shadow Fragments, bringing your total to 6,000, while you obtained the remaining from Axel.}

{Axel killed 20 Celestials, and you received half of the Shadow Fragments while the remaining half is used to strengthen the Shadow.}

"Fuck!" Modret cursed aloud, seething in rage.

’I knew that system upgrades were always a bad thing!’ He truly felt a pang of regret, sighing at the drastic decrease in how many Shadow Fragments he could obtain.

’Now obtaining Shadow Fragments will be truly hard. However, it isn’t really that despairing. All I have to do is clear more Celestial Gates...’

Modret tried to cheer himself up. He couldn’t be saddened by such minor news.

Looking at things on the bright side, he focused his gaze back on the Fairy’s words and asked her.

’So, anyone my Shadow kills, I obtain half of their Shadow Fragments?’

{I believe I was thorough with my explanation, yes.}

Modret clicked his tongue at the Fairy’s reply, then asked, ’Is this also part of the upgraded features?’

{Yes, it is.}

The Fairy nodded her head.

After getting all the answers he needed, Modret waved her off and turned his gaze back to the matter at hand.

Taking light steps, he reached the coffin where another Celestial had already begun forming.

He frowned for a brief instant, ’This... will we have to clear this endlessly?’

Axel, who was by the side, was also in deep thought.

Within a few minutes, the Celestial completely formed.

The moment it did, Modret placed his hand on its body, and black flames erupted from it.

"Young master, why don’t you burn it?" Axel’s voice suddenly sounded from the side.

Modret glanced at him, stunned, "Burn it?"

Axel nodded, "If we leave it like this, it will keep on condensing more of those creatures endlessly. Perhaps burning it is the way to completely eliminate the threat."

Modret touched his brows in deep thought, and soon nodded in understanding.

He placed his hand on the crystalline surface of the coffin as black flames spread outwards, clothing the coffin in a mass of darkness.

The whole place was silent for a few minutes as Modret’s flames gradually chipped away at the coffin.

After a short while passed, Modret could feel the coffin begin melting away. He paused in his movements, seeing the state of the coffin.

The edges had already begun turning molten, and the Celestial that was forming in the coffin seemed distorted, as though it was a mirage.

He resumed his ’cleansing’ process, and the coffin continued melting.

Roughly an hour passed, and Modret’s mana was already running low when a line of glowing words appeared in front of Modret and Axel.

[CONGRATULATIONS ON CLEARING A D-GRADE CELESTIAL DUNGEON.]
