SSS Ranked Awakening: Starting With My Limitless Cosmic Shadow System
Chapter 52 - 0053: Tracking The Enigma-Resurrection
CHAPTER 52: CHAPTER 0053: TRACKING THE ENIGMA-RESURRECTION
Snow drifted into the surroundings, and a gust of wind occasionally blew in the ice-filled world of white.
Everywhere seemed particularly calm, and even a bird with white fur flapped its wings before coming to rest atop a branch embedded in the snow.
Suddenly, as though it instinctively sensed danger, it flapped its wings and flew into the sky, swiftly running away from the location.
The moment it departed, all was calm, but then a hand outstretched from the snow as a figure clawed his way out from the depths of the snow-filled world.
Parts of the figure’s body were frozen, and bits and pieces of ice clung to its skin.
The figure’s outstretched hand was stiff, and if one looked closer, they would notice the faintly dripping water pooling on the ground.
"I... I survived!"
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Modret finally regained his consciousness, completely regaining himself.
Previously, because his mana was completely exhausted, his numerous healing abilities hadn’t activated, and his mana could only restore subconsciously.
Unfortunately, the subconscious restoration of mana was drastically slow compared to the normal recovery of one’s mana by oneself through meditation.
Modret moved his mana through his body, activating all his healing abilities simultaneously.
He gradually sat up in the snow, his face containing no hint of emotion as he stared blankly at nothing in particular.
He knew...
He didn’t survive; rather, he was spared.
Him, Modret, someone with more than a hundred abilities, was spared by a youth of similar age as him?
How lamentable was that?
What the fuck had he been doing with his life all this while?
Troy was so strong that it left him in despair; even while wielding infinite mana, he was unable to do anything to him...
Everything he had was gone...
Then, was there still a chance of survival?
’No... not everything...’ a light glowed in Modret’s eyes as he glanced towards the snow-filled world...
Lightning crackled in his eyes as his figure vanished into the distance...
If his guess wasn’t wrong, then there was a forest nearby where Aeron had hunted the creatures from before.
His speed was extremely fast, and within a few minutes, he arrived at the forest, swiftly spotting the thing he came here for.
Meanwhile, some time ago, after all seven members of the organization departed...
They moved through the snowy path for a while; however, Troy could feel the stares of the blue-masked figures behind him, prickling his skin.
He didn’t speak much and only continued walking, before finally, he froze in his tracks...
In front of them was a kind-looking old man.
Immediately seeing this old man, all seven of them went down on one knee, bowing respectfully to the old man.
"Master!" their voices were solemn as they stared at the old man.
The old man nodded kindly, "My children, I’ve told you, you don’t have to be so respectful in front of me..."
His voice was filled with warmth and affection, soothing the hearts of everyone who heard it.
He raised his warm gaze to stare at Troy before saying warmly:
"I believe you should have your reasons for sparing him, right?"
Troy nodded, bowing even more reverently.
"Master, I’m sorry for disobeying your orders. Mid-fight, I realized that since Modret possesses so many abilities, he truly must have a relation to the Enigma; after all, there’s no one like him with so many abilities.
"I spared him, while leaving a tracker on him so he can lead us to the Enigma. If my guess isn’t right, after suffering such a setback at my hands, he should want to head to his master, the Enigma, for guidance."
The old man was silent for a few minutes, before he finally smiled warmly.
"You made the right decision, child. I believe the Enigma should be someone that can bestow abilities on others; if my reasoning is not wrong, he might have possibly gifted Modret so many abilities."
His back hunched as he turned around, walking idly in the snow-filled world.
The group remained bowing, and only when a gust of wind blew and they couldn’t sense the old man’s aura did they finally raise their head.
At the same time, a faint voice drifted from afar...
"The Enigma might be a valuable ally to our cause... just watch Modret from afar for now..."
"Yes, Master!" all seven nodded in unison.
Meanwhile, in a forest covered in blood, Modret was unaware of the discussion going on with the members of the organization.
He glanced at the system’s screen, then finally muttered ’yes’.
[1000 shadow fragments gathered, resurrecting the fallen shadow...]
Faint wisps of darkness surged outwards before gathering, condensing to form the silhouette of a figure.
The figure finally condensed after a few minutes passed, fully forming Axel.
The moment the youth appeared, he knelt down.
"I’m sorry for my incompetence, Master."
Axel felt disappointed in himself, recalling the last moments before his death.
Leaving Modret to deal with all the troubles all by himself, what kind of life guard was he?
Modret gazed deeply at Axel, then shook his head.
"Don’t overthink it, Axel. You did well... we just didn’t expect the organization to send such a strong member this time."
Axel, feeling touched by Modret’s words, finally stood up from the ground.
Finally, his gaze landed on Modret’s clothes, if it could even be called that...
He frowned slightly, "Young Master, what happened to your clothes?"
The robes Modret was previously wearing was no different from rags, only covering his private area, and the scarf which was wrapped snugly around his neck was the only thing that brought coverage to his chest.
Previously, during the battle, Modret had tossed the scarf far away even before the battle began because he didn’t want it to be endangered since he wasn’t certain of the results of the battle.
Letting out a breath, Modret replied candidly, "Just like I said, Axel, there’s no need to overthink it. There should be a city close to this place, right?"
Axel nodded, "A city will be best for now; the organization targeting you wouldn’t dare act in the open within a city."
Modret nodded, "That’s what I thought of as well. We need to head to a city in the meantime..."
After deciding on what to do next, both figures immediately departed from the forest clearing, leaving the world of snow and ice behind.
