Chapter 1140: Chapter 1140: Repeating the Same Trick 5
Although the training was busy, He Teng was deeply concerned about the progress in this case. By the time He Teng finally had the chance to visit Chen Yun and the others, it had already been half a month since Gu En murdered someone and fled.
An entire half month had passed, and Gu En seemed to have vanished into thin air—no matter how hard they searched, she couldn’t be found.
“Someone is helping Gu En.” He Teng stated with certainty, “The person helping and hiding Gu En must be the same one who provided her with the gun.”
“We’ve thought of that too. Otherwise, given Gu En’s physical condition, it wouldn’t have been possible for her to escape far. Plus, it was late at night, and she was covered in blood—it would have made her extremely conspicuous anywhere she went.” Chen Yun nodded. “But we haven’t been able to figure out who’s supporting Gu En or how she got her hands on the gun.”
He Teng furrowed his brows, glanced at Chen Yun, and said, “Have you investigated Ding Long yet? When Gu En was in prison, Ding Long visited her and even helped her with some matters. If Gu En had outside support, Ding Long is the first person to suspect.”
“We’ve investigated him. But during the time Gu En was hospitalized, Ding Long never went to her hospital. Plus, coincidentally, Ding Long was on a business trip in another province during those days—he wasn’t in the capital at all.” Chen Yun explained, “When Gu En was hospitalized, there were always police officers with her wherever she went— even when she used the hospital’s public restroom, the hospital nurses were asked to keep an eye on her. She shouldn’t have had the chance to contact someone to hand her a gun.”
“Nothing odd or out of the ordinary happened while she was in the hospital?” He Teng asked. “Gu En has been locked up in prison, and aside from the Gu Family, she hasn’t come into contact with anyone else. Whoever handed her the gun couldn’t have anticipated her suicide attempt and subsequent transfer to this hospital, let alone pinpoint which ward she’d be admitted to. That means the gun must have been delivered to her after she was hospitalized. So, there must be some overlooked detail—likely the moment she got her hands on the gun!”
Chen Yun and the others were convinced that the Gu Family couldn’t possibly have provided Gu En with a gun. Furthermore, during their prison visits, the Gu Family had always been monitored. Every word spoken between the Gu Family and Gu En had been recorded. Additionally, the bullet extracted from the victim’s body confirmed that the gun didn’t originate from any official military or state-sanctioned channels.
“An overlooked detail?” A young officer nearby scratched his head and chimed in, “When we were investigating at the hospital, a nurse mentioned that during one of Gu En’s medical examinations, an elderly woman who looked particularly poor and destitute accidentally bumped into Gu En. Gu En then pointed at her nose and cursed her out, kicking her several times. That old woman was kneeling on the ground, begging for mercy repeatedly. If not for the officer guarding Gu En who pulled her away, who knows how much more Gu En would have bullied her.”
“Why didn’t you report this earlier?” Chen Yun sprang up the moment he heard this.
“Chief, this only came up recently when one of our colleagues went back to the hospital for follow-up inquiries. A nurse recalled it and told us about it. The nurse said the old woman looked really pitiful, so we thought it was just an accident.”
“What accident? At this point, every anomaly needs to be taken seriously! Immediately investigate this elderly woman’s identity! Find out who she is, why she was at the hospital, whether she was there for treatment or to visit someone! Track her down at once!” Chen Yun was so enraged he nearly coughed up blood. He then turned to He Teng and said, “I have a gut feeling this encounter between Gu En and the old woman was no mere coincidence.”
“I have the same feeling. But it’s been half a month—we’re not likely to find her now.” He Teng nodded, continuing the thread.
Chen Yun muttered a curse under his breath, his frustration palpable.
