Starting Cultivation in Wasteland

CHAPTER 249: CHAPTER 161: MISJUDGING CHARACTER
"Hmm?" Qu Jianlei frowned and quickly walked to the door.
He took the envelope, opened it to take a look, and seeing the young lad was a bit anxious, he casually gave him three silver coins.
The little guy took off, running so fast that he disappeared in no time.
With Qu Jianlei’s personality, he was always very cautious, but "three silver coins" was actually a code.
He took the letter and walked back, as it contained a predetermined secret message.
Normally, you’d have to calculate and cross-reference to understand what was written, but by the time he walked back inside, he already understood.
It was Bentley coming to Central City, but his identity was problematic, so he could only stay outside the city, worried about being unable to pass a check if he entered.
It had been nearly a year since they last met, and Qu Jianlei quite missed them both.
So he drove out directly, and about an hour later, he reached his destination.
Bentley had a row of little trinkets draped over his shoulder, standing by the roadside selling, clearly looking like a small vendor.
This guy’s disguise skills were quite high; even his physique had changed, appearing as a burly middle-aged man.
Qu Jianlei didn’t even recognize him until he shouted from ten meters away, "Jian Lei!"
Because he was looking for someone, Qu Jianlei drove slowly, and upon hearing the shout, he quickly stopped and nodded at him, "Get in the car."
Once Bentley got in the car, he smiled and asked, "Got the official identity yet?"
"Got it," Qu Jianlei nodded, "but there’s been some trouble recently, so it’s inconvenient to sponsor you both in."
The rules of Central City allowed residents with official status to sponsor up to three people to live in the city.
But the cost of residency was extremely beautiful, and it was a tiered price.
Sponsoring one person was one hundred silver coins per month, the second person three hundred, the third nine hundred.
Too expensive? Then you don’t have to come; a pauper thinking of sponsoring people?
If Qu Jianlei sponsored three people, he wouldn’t even cover the rent of his storefront.
But sponsoring two people, just four hundred silver coins, was not a big burden for him.
"Mutual reliance is quite good," Bentley laughed indifferently.
He had lived in Central City for such a long time that he wasn’t the least bit impressed.
His concern was another matter, "Trouble... need help?"
"Wait until you’re B-level," Qu Jianlei smiled at his words, "right now, I mainly don’t want to implicate you both."
"Who are you underestimating?" Bentley said, unimpressed, "Bring Jamaari over now, watch how I thrash him."
Qu Jianlei knew very well Bentley might not defeat him, despite their clashing attributes, the Inspector was ultimately B-level.
Last time, due to unfamiliarity, Jamaari suffered, but with preparation, Bentley probably still couldn’t win.
There might have been some recent advancement in the old man’s cultivation, so boasting a bit was understandable, but taking it seriously was not.
So Qu Jianlei changed the subject directly, "Old Ben, what’s the last name of your enemy in the Desert District?"
Bentley shot him a suspicious glance, "Didn’t I say that’s my business?"
"I asked Jamaari," Qu Jianlei frowned, "According to him, the waters in Desert District run deep."
"Hedley Family?" Bentley snorted lightly, then shook his head, "Not their house."
The Hedley Family was also one of the Thirty-Six Noble Families, "At most, there’s a bit of a connection to Hedley; it’s the Bunker Clan."
"Bunker?" Qu Jianlei nodded slightly, making a mental note of this clan.
Bentley glanced at him, "Unless I can’t make it, otherwise, save these people for me."
Qu Jianlei nodded at his words, "How’s Yellow Scorpion now, keeping up with the cultivation speed?"
Bentley laughed, showing a fatherly expression, "Dai Xingyan’s been in touch with her quite a bit... they’re well-intentioned."
Qu Jianlei looked at him curiously, "Back when I was around, weren’t you two not on great terms?"
"Now that you’re not here," Bentley replied casually, "we can only rely on each other."
Qu Jianlei smiled, "Want to stay at my place for a couple of days? An Inspection Bureau consultant, people generally wouldn’t dare check."
"I’ll pass," Bentley still insisted toughly, "Now that I know you’re fine, I can head back."
How could Qu Jianlei let him leave like that? "There are delicacies, plus some silver notes to take back for expenses."
The two arrived at the small courtyard, and the restaurant was already full, so Qu Jianlei asked the cook to send the food to the second floor.
Smelling the aroma of the dishes, Bentley couldn’t sit still, and he began eating voraciously.
The meal was thoroughly enjoyed, and after the meal, the two strolled back to the bungalow.
Bentley brought up some doubts about cultivation – his own and Flower Scorpion’s.
To prevent Xiao Moshan from eavesdropping, Qu Jianlei made sure to close several layers of doors.
However, as they chatted late into the night, Xiao Moshan still appeared in the small courtyard, coughed lightly to announce his presence.
Qu Jianlei opened the door, welcoming him in, while Bentley curiously looked at him.
Xiao Moshan ignored him and spoke seriously to Qu Jianlei.
"Recently, someone has been inquiring about you; it feels... it should have some connection to the Frost Wolf."
"Frost Wolf?" Qu Jianlei pondered, feeling a bit troubled, "Wasn’t the matter already settled?"
Xiao Moshan replied seriously, "I heard that person is rather sinister; it’s normal for them to hold a grudge and settle scores afterward."
Qu Jianlei thought and agreed, at the time, he had left the other’s severed hand, which didn’t give them face.
But exchanging tens of thousands of silver coins for a severed hand was well worth it, wasn’t it?
"Ice Element?" Bentley squinted his eyes, "Dare to trouble you?"
"Forget it, save your energy," Qu Jianlei glanced at him, the traces of electromagnetic attribute attacks were very clear.
