Starting Cultivation in Wasteland
Chapter 61: Night Raid
CHAPTER 61: CHAPTER 61: NIGHT RAID
Qu Jianlei came this time, carrying... an Electromagnetic Cannon.
The Electromagnetic Cannon is extremely heavy, excluding the mount, it weighs nearly two hundred kilograms.
To conserve energy, he first used a motorcycle to transport it five kilometers away, then manually carried it here.
However, compared to the recoil of the Electromagnetic Cannon, this weight is insignificant.
This is simply not a weapon for individual soldiers, only a Mecha can handle it, definitely not a human.
Nevertheless, Qu Jianlei came prepared, choosing a clearing with a relatively good view first.
He dug a pit in the ground, then placed the barricade he brought inside to stabilize the base and walls.
Then he placed the cannon mount inside, filled it with soil, and pressed hard to compact it.
Finally, he mounted the cannon barrel on the mount and fastened the strap.
He brought a total of three cannon shells; having more is useless, as their weight isn’t light either.
Qu Jianlei waited until nearly midnight before quietly loading a shell into the magazine and pulling the bolt.
His first target was the armored vehicle—specifically the one Mr. Sai was sitting in; he didn’t plan to deal with the other one.
After a muffled bang, the armored vehicle instantly exploded into a fireball, causing a violent fiery blast.
This was a standard Gauss Cannon Shell, but Qu Jianlei aimed at the fuel tank area.
The high-temperature warhead instantly detonated the fuel tank, along with some ammunition exploding sympathetically.
Then came the second muffled bang; this time Qu Jianlei fired a High-Explosive Bomb, targeting the central tent.
Field tents are often not just tents, especially for those with status.
This tent was like that, with added panels to make the room temperature less scorching and provide some protection.
But against an Electromagnetic Cannon, this protection is nearly useless, as the central tent exploded instantly.
Qu Jianlei didn’t even bother to assess the result, he unfastened the cannon mount, picked up the cannon body, and ran.
The mount could be left behind; with tools and materials, it can be easily made again.
While running, he carried the cannon body on his back, hoping it would help block bullets.
Luckily, he only fired two shots; otherwise, just the heat from the cannon barrel would burn his back.
"Enemy attack!" someone shouted, but it was too far to be heard clearly.
About five or six seconds later, the first searchlight swept over.
By the time all five searchlights turned on, it was half a minute later.
It was already late at night, not every Adventurer would be vigilant against raids.
Moreover, unexpectedly encountering a raid, no one could confirm the number of attackers or weaponry, so the first response was defense.
By the time they realized the attacker was alone and started chasing him with vehicles, a minute had already passed.
Qu Jianlei didn’t anticipate this turn; had he known, he would have used the Mecha directly.
However... operating that way risked exposure, and this method was safer.
Relying on his legs, he ran desperately, though the presence of the Electromagnetic Cannon inevitably slowed him down.
Yet, if it came to it, he really couldn’t bear to abandon this cannon.
Despite this, he sprinted at roughly sixty kilometers per hour for nearly ten minutes.
Within two minutes of running, gunfire sounded behind him, immediately followed by the sound of vehicle-mounted machine guns.
Finally, Qu Jianlei reached the location of his motorcycle, grabbed the Gauss Machine Gun next to it, and continued his desperate run.
After running about ten meters, he turned around and fired a sweep, instantly igniting the motorcycle’s fuel tank.
Then he continued his frantic dash, and just that move blinded the shooters behind him.
The visibility today wasn’t high, totaling less than three kilometers; the convoy could keep up mainly because of night vision goggles.
Once the fuel tank exploded, the night vision goggles temporarily failed.
Qu Jianlei sprinted for another three minutes, with vehicles following more and some clearly faster.
Seeing the enemy was about to reach the burning motorcycle, Qu Jianlei took out an Incendiary Bullet.
He pressed the delay fuse and channeled Inner Breath to his arm, directly throwing it.
This throw likely went three hundred meters.
Two minutes later, the delay fuse detonated; though it didn’t hit the vehicles, it interfered with night vision again.
Another three minutes of running, Qu Jianlei felt his stamina declining, and without hesitation, squeezed three Nutrient Liquid tubes into his mouth.
Gritting his teeth, he ran another three minutes; a loud boom came from behind, his pre-buried fiery bomb exploded.
The fiery bomb was trip-triggered; the fuse was long, the chasing vehicles were over thirty meters away, just impacted slightly.
But the people in the car were shaken and startled, visibly slowing down the vehicle.
Amid this chase and escape, Qu Jianlei made a wide arc, spending nearly twenty minutes to reach an abandoned warehouse.
By now, the pursuers were within three kilometers, and the searchlights were very bright.
The good thing is, all pursuers were behind him, so escaping into the mountains had no obstructions.
The vehicles behind, under the searchlights, could faintly see human figures.
However, in the dark, the figures flickered in and out, only slightly better than being unseen.
But even so, quite a few people knew what lies ahead.
Someone shouted loudly, "That guy is dreaming if he thinks he can hold out in an abandoned warehouse."
"Isn’t this a joke?" someone familiar with the terrain yelled, "Three doors are collapsed, leaving only one. Just block the exit."
Another added, "The west door seems to be dug through, be careful there too."
Someone else suggested, "He has an electromagnetic cannon, avoid the front and just block his firepower!"
Another suggested, "Bring over a few cannons, collapse the exit, and suffocate that guy to death!"
There were all kinds of suggestions, but no one dared to rush into the abandoned warehouse—many wasteland people aren’t afraid of dying, but they won’t go looking for death.
Gradually, seven or eight vehicles arrived near the warehouse, blocking the south and west gates.
In the distance, headlights flickered, indicating more vehicles were arriving.
Though exhausted, Qu Jianlei was still operating, but the intense twenty-minute run almost made him spit blood.
Once inside the warehouse, he quickly equipped the electromagnetic cannon onto the mecha and hooked up the magazine.
Then he climbed into the mecha’s cockpit and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
He then mustered his spirit, stored the Gauss machine gun into the storage compartment—the other machine gun was already equipped on the mecha’s left arm.
After sorting out the mecha, he moved around to adapt, ready to take action.
At this point, making noise didn’t matter anymore.
Unexpectedly, the vehicle-mounted machine guns fired crazily at the doorway, but the trajectories started to deviate.
Qu Jianlei was a bit surprised, then realized, "These guys... are really afraid of dying."
He was already certain the enemy planned to block him from the outside.
Which was fine because the intense run made him dizzy, and he could take the opportunity to catch his breath and have something to eat.
The energy from the dried meat was high, but he was panting too hard and had to resort to nutrient injections.
Five nutrient injections and several sips of water later, he felt slightly steady after five minutes.
No more waiting! Qu Jianlei wasn’t sure if the enemy had brought any cannons yet.
Large-caliber cannons were unlikely, but fast-firing machine cannons were another matter.
The electromagnetic cannon Qu Jianlei bought wasn’t a machine cannon, but neither was it a large-caliber cannon; it could pierce armored vehicles.
Small-caliber rapid-fire machine cannon could also cause some damage to the mecha.
After all, this was just a transport mecha, not a combat mecha; if the weak points were repeatedly hit, it could be damaged.
Qu Jianlei was not about to wait for the enemy to bring over large-caliber cannons.
Blocking the main door didn’t matter; he hadn’t been in the warehouse just for a day or two.
For someone with a severe lack of security, observing terrain while staying in the wild was necessary homework.
He knew where the weak points were in this warehouse, which had collapsed twice.
By now, there were over ten vehicles outside, and someone shouted, "It must be that guy from Black Heaven inside!"
Someone from the General Settlement added, "He bought an electromagnetic cannon from Hongyi, along with over eighty shells!"
Eighty shells... that was a terrifying number.
Someone whispered, "This guy can really run... truly a bandit!"
Another suggested, "We need asphyxiating bullets; if we want to attack, we should have the Settlement bring in tanks."
Asphyxiating bullets were somewhat like Blue Star’s thermobaric arrows, as poison or flash bombs were almost nonexistent in the wasteland.
Environmental impact wasn’t considered; at this point, what further extent could it reach?
The problem was that there were many mutants, and the effect of special ammo wasn’t that great.
"Not necessary!" the person suspected to be from the General Settlement objected.
They couldn’t disclose the possibility that the person might have a mutant crystal or new means to use the crystal.
He spoke sternly, "Does Hongyi have a heavy mecha? Capture this guy alive and openly execute him at the General Settlement!"
"Indeed," someone echoed, "killing him this way is too easy."
At this moment, the ground shook, and something pushed open the roof of the warehouse and emerged.
Someone with sharp eyes couldn’t help but exclaim, "Mecha?"
The tall mecha turned its head slightly and raised the electromagnetic cannon in its hand.
With a muffled sound, a truck with extra armor turned into a ball of fire in an instant.
"Damn!" someone cursed, "How does this guy have a mecha?"
"This is impossible!" someone shouted angrily, starting their vehicle to escape.
Qu Jianlei’s actions weren’t slow, but the mobility of this transport mecha wasn’t as agile as he expected.
After blowing up three cars in a row, the other vehicles had already started up, accelerating madly and fleeing into the distance.
Even though it was merely a transport mecha, it was a weapon of war, and no enhanced cars could match it.
Armored vehicles could engage the mecha, but in terms of maneuverability, the mecha still had the upper hand.
The one remaining armored vehicle hadn’t come over because the electromagnetic cannon already posed a threat to its survival.
