CHAPTER 101: CHAPTER 101: DO YOU THINK I’M A FAILURE?
Auntie sized up Lin Fan skeptically, "Is he your boyfriend?"
Loli felt a bit guilty and brazenly replied, "Of course he is!"
Lin Fan gently held her small hand and said to the auntie, "Hello Auntie, I’m Lily’s boyfriend."
With Lin Fan’s hand holding hers, Loli felt a rush of warmth and a surge of safety. Wow, this dream guy is so warm.
The auntie initially wanted to criticize Loli a bit, but now all her words of criticism were swallowed back.
"Haha, alright then," the auntie was caught off guard and seemed a bit at a loss, so she just turned around and walked away.
Lin Fan and Loli then sat down at a nearby empty seat.
Loli sighed in relief and said with a sweet smile, "That was close. If she saw through me, she would have nagged me for ages."
Lin Fan asked, "Who is she to you?"
Loli replied, "She’s my mom’s best friend, quite the gossip. Doesn’t see herself as an outsider and always nags that I need a boyfriend and keeps trying to set me up, which is so annoying. But because of my mom, I can’t retort."
Lin Fan found it a bit amusing. No wonder even a police officer like Loli would feel a bit uneasy in front of such an auntie; she indeed was quite annoying.
"Lin Fan, I’m so glad you helped me out just now. Thank you," Loli said gratefully.
Lin Fan smiled and replied, "Just lending a hand."
Loli blushed, wanting to say, "Why don’t dream guy really become my boyfriend?" But she was a female after all, too shy to say it.
"Forget about her, let’s eat. What do you like to eat?" Loli smiled, changing the subject.
So, the two of them ordered food and ate.
While eating, Loli took a statement from Lin Fan.
Taking the statement was secondary; having a meal with the dream guy was the main point. Loli felt very satisfied. She finally had a meal with the dream guy. She was envious and jealous when she heard Liu Sisi had dinner with Lin Fan last night.
The two chatted and laughed, the atmosphere was pleasant.
This surprised Lin Fan a little. Last time at the small hotel, he was mistakenly arrested by Loli and felt a bit overshadowed by her, but after this meal, it all dissipated.
He found Loli didn’t have much of a police officer’s manner, more like a young girl, very likable.
After they finished eating, the statement was done, and they were about to check out and leave.
Suddenly, Loli’s phone rang.
Loli picked up the call, her face a bit serious, "Just got a report, someone nearby is going to jump off a building. Can you take me over to check it out?"
Lin Fan immediately agreed, "Sure."
So the two hurriedly paid the bill and left the restaurant.
Just as they stepped outside, the auntie they met earlier suddenly came over and grabbed Loli.
"Lily, I just called your mom. She said she doesn’t know anything about you having a boyfriend. What’s going on with this boyfriend of yours?" the auntie questioned.
Loli, in a hurry to rescue someone, said, "Aunt Song, I’ll explain to you later. I have an urgent matter now."
But the auntie wouldn’t let go, "Tell me clearly, when did you start hiding from us about dating? That coal boss is so rich, yet you don’t want him. This guy looks like he’s poor. Your taste can’t be that bad, right?"
Lin Fan quietly walked to the side, took out a car key, and pressed it.
The Kosak immediately started up.
Lin Fan sat in the driver’s seat and turned his head, "Officer Sister, saving lives is urgent. Hurry up."
The auntie was stunned on the spot.
Loli easily shook off the auntie’s hand this time, quickly getting into Lin Fan’s car.
Then, the Kosak sped away.
Aunt Song was almost petrified. Oh my god, this guy decked out in bargain bin clothes actually drives a luxury car. He’s so wealthy; turns out he’s a super rich second generation. I totally misjudged him!
In front of Lin Fan, that coal boss is just a poor guy, not worth mentioning.
Aunt Song muttered, "This girl, she’s doing well for herself..."
Now about Lin Fan, he drove Loli to a nearby community. Getting out of the car, Lin Fan noticed that the community next door was Tangchen Yipin!
What a coincidence, today a tenant needed to pay rent. He was planning to head back to Tangchen Yipin, just perfect, once this is dealt with, he can go there.
On the rooftop of a building in the community, there was a young man, looking utterly desperate, sitting on the railing. He was the one planning to jump.
This building was only ten stories high, although not comparable to the surrounding skyscrapers, jumping off it would still mean a thorough death.
A crowd was gathering below.
Some were sighing, some were jeering.
"Ugh, why are young people these days so unable to let go, wanting to commit suicide at the drop of a hat."
"Maybe he got dumped!"
"There are plenty of women out there, but only one life. Jumping for a woman is not worth it."
"Right, so pathetic."
Suddenly, someone yelled, "Hey, I think you’re a loser too! Hurry up and jump, end it all!"
"If you’re going to die, hurry up and die. I need to go back home and play PUBG!"
"Damn it, we’ve been waiting forever, why aren’t you jumping yet? Are you going to jump or not?"
Instantly, a few people started jeering.
Listening to these words, the young man looked utterly hopeless, almost about to jump.
"All of you shut up! If he jumps, I’ll hold you all accountable!"
Loli came running angrily.
The few who were jeering shivered in fear and immediately went silent, not daring to continue.
"Officer Sister, you’re here just in time. Please try to persuade this young man. I live in this building, and if he jumps and dies, I wouldn’t dare to live here anymore," a middle-aged man said anxiously.
Loli was a bit speechless. These people were either jeering or scared, but none of them cared about the young man. If things continued like this, the young man would only have one path to death.
This is why, when facing a jumper, you need professional personnel to persuade them, such as negotiators or police, because bystanders’ jeering often prompts suicides. Even if the suicidal person was just impulsive and didn’t truly want to jump, once provoked by the jeering, they might get emotional and actually jump.
Loli looked up and said, "Sir, don’t listen to them. Look at me and tell me why you’re feeling this way."
The young man saw someone finally cared, and burst into tears, "Officer Sister, don’t bother with me. Just let me die."
Loli patiently said, "Dying won’t solve the problem. What difficulty are you experiencing? Tell me, maybe I can help you?"
The young man shook his head in despair, "You can’t help me. I’m a failure. I lost all my capital in business, now I have nothing, can’t even pay my mortgage, and am deeply in debt. My wife left me for another man. Tell me what point is there in living?"
Loli secretly broke out in a cold sweat; this guy’s indeed a bit miserable, hearing it makes one want to die.
But she still had to persuade, "Don’t say that. Dying is better than living aimlessly. Maybe you can bounce back. If you die, there’s no hope left. Living, there’s always a chance to turn things around. Don’t you think?"
The young man replied, "No, you won’t understand. If there were even a glimmer of hope, I wouldn’t be jumping. Don’t try to persuade me, let me die."
After saying this, the young man made a move to jump off.
Loli was extremely anxious at heart. Seeing this, it seemed the man was determined to die, and her persuasion was ineffective.
"Buddy, what kind of failure is that? I’m more of a failure than you, but I’m still living well!"
Just then, Lin Fan spoke in a loud voice.
The young man couldn’t help but be curious. Someone worse off than him?
"What’s your failure?" the young man asked.
Lin Fan looked sorrowful and sighed, "I wanted to earn money with my own two hands, but I was born inheriting billions. Apart from spending, I can’t do anything else, I can’t even take care of myself, everything is managed by housekeepers. Wanted to get a wife, but there are so many beauties lining up for miles, all vying to marry me. I don’t know who to choose. I’m only 21 this year. Imagine, even if I live to be 100, there’s still 79 more years, and I won’t be able to spend all my money. Do you think I’m a failure? Yet even so, I live strongly on."
Young man: "..."
Jeez, don’t hit a person when they’re down. The young man felt a pang in his heart.
The people around had already ’surrendered’ in awe.
