CHAPTER 1063: SECTION 671: ART (PART 1)

Standing in the crowd by the roadside, Malin was watching the float parade. Contrary to what Malin had imagined, besides various flowers decorating these floats, they were predominantly draped with one Chaos Battle Flag after another. According to Meng Quyi, all major Thainan cities have this kind of display, and it’s said that in those large settlements not occupied by Chaos after the Great Cataclysm, they have thousands of Chaos Battle Flags at their disposal.

The Thanans are so warlike that even Khorne couldn’t wait to play the role of Confucius, seemingly wishing to drag the entire Thainan race into Subspace. During this same period, Master Wu seemed to have emerged, giving Malin a more certain estimation of the appearance time of the Lord of Justice—the Lord of Justice did not appear for long in the Western Human World, but in the Eastern Human World, he appeared not long after entering the Second Era.

After the floats passed by, Malin followed Meng Quyi to the edge of the square where there was a stone tablet. Malin stood under the tablet, reading the inscriptions below—it recorded all the fallen members of the City Guard from ten years ago. Many young people from various families appeared in groups on this tablet, and under the Zhang family section, Malin saw the names Zhang Mingxing, Zhang Mingjun, and Zhang Mingcheng, and he couldn’t speak for a long time.

Above these, there was a sentence.

May Master Wu guide them on the return home.

There’s no mention of Confucius. Speaking of which, during the Second Era, the Thanans indeed believed in Khorne because he came to this world in the guise of the War God. However, not long after, they confirmed the true identity of this unknown War God. Since then, Confucius’s legacy was lost, yet to lull Khorne (who now had the world’s coordinates), some sacrificial Thanans still chose this belief.

Though perhaps the soul of this Thanan might therefore spiral downwards, before that downfall, Thanans who believed in this Master would choose to purify themselves.

It’s not to say that Thanans who truly believed in Khorne didn’t exist, but compared to regular Thanans, their numbers were scarce. According to Meng Quyi, the main force of Khorne believers were actually the refugees from the Peninsula. Due to these ingrates, the Chaos Tide of the Dead from the North remains a major threat to Thainan Union until today—because their leader rose to power in the North, each time this scoundrel brought the Chaos Army directly into this world.

Every century, hundreds of battle groups suffer total losses in defense of the Chaos Tide of the Dead.

The Thanans would rather die than become the minions of the Chaos Evil Gods.

This made Malin both happy and filled with awe, because Thanans truly do not fear sacrifice, whether for others or for themselves.

On that bridge, Malin led the team to block the tidal onslaught time and again until reinforcements arrived, two legendary psychic warriors leading raids from the east and west sides of New Bangkok city, wiping out the entire Chaos invasion force.

The City Guards following Malin knew this and did not protest. Instead, they held the bridge with the two Thainan Union army groups that came to support them. Malin couldn’t protect everyone when Chaos charged desperately, and when the pincer attack surrounded the city, when Malin chopped down the final Great Demon’s head, the bridge was awash with blood; out of nearly two thousand troops, only thirteen were unharmed, a total of twenty-seven survived, and the Big Beard was the last mortal man still able to stand.

Malin had heard of a theory in a previous life: when a nation or a race faces its most dangerous moment, a hero will inevitably step forward, as a sort of symbol. But in this era, Malin saw that humans as a civilization, with legion after legion of epic men, each year, faced annihilation, and every individual strived to save themselves.

If this theory were true, then this danger far exceeds the extinction of nation and race; otherwise, there are far too many heroes in this era.

"Mr. Malin, what do you think?" Meng Quyi asked as they left the long tablet.

The girl’s eyes were a bit red; the reality of the names was truly a tearjerker... even Malin found it hard to take.

"Each one of them is a hero." Malin hadn’t even remembered most of their names that night. Fate granted him and them a chance to witness each other, yet Malin failed to grasp it well.

Sorry, brothers, I couldn’t remember your names, but I witnessed your courage, and I admit, your courage endures forever, just like us, unwilling to yield.

As long as I’m alive, I will fight to the world’s end. Even after the world’s end, I will continue to fight, for the Earth beneath us, for our millennia-old civilization, for unyielding courage... for Union!

After swearing an oath in his heart, Malin felt his own mind had cleared significantly.

Passing by the commemorative tablet, Malin noticed people gathered in a circle not far away. Seeing there seemed to be a spectacle, Meng Quyi took Malin to push through.

As the girl had Malin lead the way, those jostled by Malin first brimmed with anger, but upon turning and seeing Malin’s imposing frame, all temper vanished.
