CHAPTER 1136: SECTION 703: AUTUMN WIND HEADING SOUTH (PART 3)_2
With the intelligence from Bei Luo, Malin shook his head and came to the door. As he pushed it open, the situation below came into view — the sunlight now directly shone down, allowing Malin to easily confirm the situation below.
"I understand how those zombies came about." Jason pointed at the climbing marks: "I don’t know how many of them went down, but I’m sure there are quite a few zombies waiting for me at the very bottom."
"No worries, I’ve got bait grenades here." Sage Yu walked over, holding a cluster grenade and a bear toy in his hands.
He pressed the button, and the little bear started banging a gong, then Sage Yu tossed the bait grenade down.
Then Malin saw the entire sanctuary become lively; the zombies, originally hiding in various levels, fearlessly jumped towards the bottom layer upon hearing the sound of the gong.
"My God, this looks like the wildest zero-cost shopping event in Francais." Jason exclaimed in the internal channel.
"I think you’re insulting humanity. During the wildest zero-cost shopping event in Francais, those guys didn’t have the guts to jump from such a height." Bei Luo expressed some doubt.
Jason fell silent for a moment, then nodded: "Right, you’re not wrong, so let me put it another way, it all looks exactly like when survivors in North America were surrounded by Nagoth’s zombies at supermarkets at the start of the great apocalypse during their zero-cost shopping."
"Do you have a grudge against zero-cost shopping?" Bei Luo looked at Jason with a puzzled expression.
"How could I not have a grudge against those bastards of zero-cost shopping when I was the one managing airports back then." Jason retorted as he looked at Bei Luo.
This time, Bei Luo was stumped by the question. He scratched his face, a bit unsure of how to respond.
However, Malin still patted Jason’s head: "Yet when you later allowed survivors access to the vending machines, you had no complaints."
"...I couldn’t just watch them die, could I?" At this, Jason patted Bei Luo on the shoulder: "What about you?"
"I came from the research institute." Bei Luo replied.
"You’re quite lucky. I’ve seen a mother starve to death to leave food for her child, and I’ve also seen a mother starve her child for a mouthful of food. Everyone has their own goals, but if possible, I’d prefer none of this ever happened." After finishing, Jason took the descent rope passed to him by Sage Yu, and fastened the metal hook onto the door beam.
Malin was the first to grab the rope, simultaneously looking at Sage Yu: "When will that bomb go off?"
"It’s already exploded, and by the way, it’s a gas bomb — Lord Malin, you all should wear gas masks, especially Konen." With that, Sage Yu took the rope and started descending.
Then it was Bei Luo and Jason. Malin and Ails, along with Konen, put on masks. Malin let Konen go down first, followed by himself, and Ails left behind the skeleton dog before landing behind Malin.
"What kind of gas is this? There’s no data on it in my gas database, and it seems to have no toxicity." As soon as Jason touched the ground, he spotted the issue.
"It’s concentrated garlic gas, which disrupts the zombies’ central nervous system. Konen’s gas mask is custom-made, rest assured." At this point, Sage Yu dragged over a zombie, pulled out a dagger, sliced open the shriveled abdomen, and opened the stomach: "They haven’t eaten in a long time."
"It’s quite normal; the relationship between mutated animals and these zombies isn’t always the predator-prey kind, or put it this way, after the great destruction, humans are no longer at the top of the food chain in this world." Malin walked over and mercifully finished off the zombie with a pistol: "Also, Sage Yu, next time, kill it first when you cut it open. We can be butchers, but we are not lunatics."
"Okay, I understand, I’m sorry, sir." Sage Yu nodded.
Malin nodded, instructing Ails to guard Sage Yu, and he and Bei Luo moved to the corner to examine the warehouse.
Jason, along with Konen, continued knifing the downed zombies: "By the way, is the garlic gas’s effect on the zombies’ central nervous system permanent?"
"Not permanent, but once enough is inhaled, it will last for at least about a day." Sage Yu joined the knifing team.
"If I inhale this stuff, will I also be at others’ mercy like them?" Konen asked.
"I think so, which is why I recommend not taking off your gas mask, as testing poison with your life is the most unwise thing to do." Sage Yu looked at Konen, meanwhile crushing a zombie under his power armor.
And Konen nodded, then used the axe in his hand to finish off another zombie.
Malin followed Bei Luo to the warehouse door, which still looked intact. Bei Luo pulled out a door-breaking bomb, but Malin vetoed it. The reason was simple: they were now underground, and if an explosion caused a structural collapse, Malin was confident he could open a portal to get everyone out, but the old materials in this warehouse would likely just have to wait for someone to dig them out later.
"How about hand-ripping the door instead." With that, Malin reached out and tore the door from its frame.
"...Did you know, this door was originally explosion-proof, weighing a ton." Bei Luo said, looking at Malin as if he were a monster.
Resting the door against the wall, Malin made a gesture of invitation.
Bei Luo clapped his little hands, and the lights in the warehouse flickered on.
"Old rules, my bugs go in first." Jason came over, his mechanical bugs scurried into the warehouse, circled around a few times and confirmed it was safe. Malin curiously furrowed his brow: "Speaking of which, where is the guy making all that noise?"
