Steel, Guns, and the Industrial Party in Another World
Chapter 535: Rebellion 3
CHAPTER 535: REBELLION 3
TL: Rui88
While trying their best to avoid alerting the traitors, Paul’s camp moved with urgent speed. Even Paul himself, Captain Victor, and the intelligence agent Brandy joined in the preparations for battle. The guards piled up everything that could stop arrows…wooden planks, carriage bodies, boxes, and stones…around the camp.
Ladi, holding a bottle, sprinkled some unknown powder from it in various patterns in every corner of the camp. And the parrot she had summoned flapped its wings and flew into the air, using the cover of night to fly towards the distant horizon.
After completing all the preparations they could under the current circumstances, Victor ordered all the lights to be extinguished, and the entire camp was instantly plunged into darkness.
The abnormality in the lord’s camp was eventually discovered by the traitors.
Ferguson’s tent was brightly lit. A group of men sat on the ground in a circle, most of them wearing armor.
“Grayman must have sensed something!”
Upon hearing his servant report that the lord’s camp had suddenly gone dark, Ferguson immediately made this judgment.
“Ah?” Old Warren was a little panicked. “They… they haven’t run away, have they?”
It was not yet time to make their move…they had originally planned to act at midnight, when most of the people in the lord’s camp would be asleep.
At this sensitive moment, old Warren hated anything that deviated from the plan.
If they let the lord escape, wouldn’t their entire clans be executed?
“Lord Ferguson… what should we do?”
The others also asked one after another.
Although they were full of ambition when they were plotting, each vowing to cut off the lord’s head, at the moment right before the action, everyone felt a sense of panic. After all, the Grayman family had ruled them for over a hundred years, and since Paul Grayman’s succession, his family’s prestige had risen rapidly, becoming a presence feared by all the major lords in the Northwest Bay, including Duke Ferdinand.
Some people had even begun to think: How did I have the guts to participate in their conspiracy back then?
But they were already on the boat, and there was absolutely no turning back now.
In this situation, Ferguson, the only one with military experience, became the backbone of the rebels.
A bunch of cowards! Seeing the expressions of his accomplices, Ferguson cursed silently in his heart.
“What are you panicking about? This forest is full of our men and traps. Where can they run? Now, immediately gather all the men you have and attack the lord’s camp!”
“Yes, Lord Ferguson!”
As long as the backbone gave the order, their inner panic subsided a lot. They all got up to gather their men.
…
Paul gripped the pistol he used for self-defense tightly, his palms covered in sweat. He hid behind a wooden box, only peeking out with half his head. By the moonlight, he stared intently at the dark forest ahead. The forest, which had looked full of life during the day, now seemed to have transformed into a monster that would devour everything, slowly closing in on him.
The green-haired witch was right beside him. She sensed Paul’s nervousness and gently placed her hand on his back. In an instant, Paul felt a wave of warmth rise in his heart, and his tense nerves relaxed considerably.
The rifled musket Paul had used for hunting had been given to the best marksman among the guards…a young man named Agram. He was positioned right next to Captain Victor, ready to snipe the most valuable target upon his command.
“They’re coming!” Ladi reminded him.
A faint, ghostly light emanated from the witch’s eyes. Paul wasn’t sure if it was the effect of magic.
“Everyone, on alert!” Victor growled.
A few seconds later, everyone heard a rustling sound coming from deep within the woods.
At the same time, in the barracks of Lakeheart Town, the lights-out bugle had already been blown. The entire military camp was enveloped by the night, with only a few lights at the sentry posts.
The militiamen who had come for training had climbed into bed early. They had been thoroughly exhausted these past two days.
Especially today, the instructors, as if possessed, had made them repeat loading and firing drills over and over again. The sound of cracking shots had echoed through the barracks all day long.
Zane lay in bed, the sound of his comrades’ thunderous snores surrounding him. Although his body was very tired, he had not yet fallen asleep. It seemed he had insomnia.
For some reason, Zane felt a sense of unease after getting into bed, as if something bad was going to happen tonight.
What a damned premonition, he muttered silently, pulling the blanket tighter around himself.
Sigh, he had to get up early for training tomorrow. He needed to get to sleep quickly.
One sheep, two sheep, three sheep…
He started counting sheep, silently imagining a large flock of sheep jumping over a fence in his mind.
“Di-di-di-da…di-di…di-di-di-da…di-di!”
He suddenly heard the piercing sound of a bugle call.
Huh? No way, I’m even dreaming of an emergency assembly. My brain is really repaying me for my hard training during the day.
“Di-di-di-da…di-di…di-di-di-da…di-di!”
The continuous sound of the bugle call reached his ears.
Zane sat up abruptly. Wait! This isn’t a dream. Someone is really blowing the bugle.
What was that sound? It was the call for an emergency assembly.
“Get up! Everyone get up! Emergency assembly!”
Zane shouted at the top of his lungs in the dormitory while jumping onto the floor and starting to put on his clothes.
“Assembly? Assembly for a meal? Ouch!”
McKee mumbled in his sleep until Zane twisted his arm and woke him up.
“Stop dreaming, it’s a real emergency assembly. Get dressed quickly.”
Thanks to Zane’s efforts, all eight people in their dormitory were woken up in less than a minute.
Five minutes later, they rushed out of the dormitory and headed straight for the training ground.
On the training ground, Zane and his men found their positions from the daytime training formation. Hmm? What, is our dormitory the first to arrive?
Then, a large group of people soon ran over from the dormitory area.
“Form up! Form up like you did during the day!” Zane shouted to the militia from Tata Town.
Although it was chaotic at first, in less than half an hour, the militiamen had formed their ranks and were waiting for the arrival of the instructor.
Lieutenant Burgan walked onto the training ground with his head held high, then went to the podium facing the militia formation.
“Brave warriors! You have assembled very quickly, which shows that you have worked hard during the day. I…Lieutenant Burgan…will forever be proud of you!”
“But, the purpose of this emergency assembly is not to test you. Tonight, you will undertake a great responsibility that will be written into the history of Alda!”
A great responsibility? The sense of unease in Zane’s heart grew stronger.
He heard Burgan on the podium say with great seriousness.
“Our great and benevolent lord…Paul Grayman!”
“Was unfortunately assassinated tonight!”
With a roar! The area below the podium erupted.
