CHAPTER 603: THE GABELLA EMPIRE’S TURMOIL 1
TL: Rui88
“Your Majesty, I’m leaving!”
MacDonald bid farewell to his lord, Bartley Griffin.
Emperor Bartley patted the old marshal’s shoulder and said with great satisfaction, “The empire’s northern frontier is all up to you, MacDonald!”
MacDonald nodded.
They were currently in the northern suburbs of the Gabella imperial capital. On the main road, a full 30,000 soldiers had already lined up. Among them were infantry, cavalry, archers, and various auxiliary military personnel.
The soldiers were lined up in long columns, one after another, completely filling the road leading north from the imperial capital.
At the rear of this column followed a large number of cattle, horses, and carts, laden with food, military equipment, and other supplies.
Seeing the old marshal and the troops he led off were, besides Emperor Bartley, various ministers and important members of the royal family. Prime Minister Duke Dias, the First Prince Felix, the Second Prince Antonio, and Scholars Aldridge and Arvis from the Scholars’ Tower were all in the farewell party.
After talking with the emperor for a while, MacDonald respectfully bowed to him and mounted his warhorse.
After settling in on his horse, he looked at the two princes. A cold smile hung on Felix’s lips, while Antonio’s face was solemn.
Felix must be very happy right now, he thought. The greatest support for Antonio in his mind was gone. How could he not be happy?
“Depart!”
MacDonald whipped his horse and ordered the army to move out.
With his command, the originally quiet army quickly began to move, like a long snake slithering north.
“My dear brother.”
Felix looked at Antonio and said.
“You should also be prepared. Perhaps our father will one day send you to the front lines as well.”
Antonio didn’t look at him, simply replying, “Naturally, I am always ready to share our father’s worries.”
“Oh? That’s good.”
Emperor Bartley waved his hand. “Let’s go back. MacDonald will surely return with carts full of orc heads as gifts for us.”
He led the royal family members and ministers back to the imperial capital.
…
As soon as Felix returned to the city, he went to consult with his maternal grandfather, Duke Dias.
“A great opportunity has come, a great opportunity has come, dear grandfather.”
He paced excitedly around the room. “The Antonio of today is like a tiger that has lost its teeth and claws, ready for us to slaughter.”
“Be patient!” Duke Dias looked at Felix’s current state and said sternly.
“MacDonald has not gone far yet. We must wait until he is far away before we can make a move.”
“Damn it, how long do we have to wait?” Felix was somewhat impatient.
“At least seven days.” Duke Dias had returned to his usual demeanor, appearing somewhat calm and detached.
“In these seven days, we must gather all our strength, clench it tightly into a fist, so that it will be more powerful.”
“But what if there’s an accident…” Felix still wanted to argue.
“Your Highness!”
Lady Corrick, who had come with Felix, spoke up to remind him.
“We should trust the Duke’s judgment.”
“Fine, I’ll wait!” Felix gritted his teeth hard.
Duke Dias glanced at Lady Corrick with some surprise. She was a beautiful lady with a head of silver hair; every man who looked at her would have wanton fantasies.
But the Duke knew that this was a beautiful flower with a deadly poisonous thorn. Corrick was a female assassin recruited by the Dias family. She had incredible skills and was a rare and sharp blade.
After passing a loyalty test, Corrick was sent by Duke Dias to his grandson’s side to become a court lady, partly to protect Felix and partly to act as a form of surveillance.
But today, the Duke discovered that his usually somewhat impetuous grandson, Felix, had been persuaded by this woman with a single sentence.
The way he had seen Felix treat Corrick on a daily basis slowly surfaced in the Duke’s mind.
He suddenly had a guess…could it be that Felix had fallen for this female assassin?
This was a dangerous sign, the Duke thought to himself. “The throne of the future Empress of the Gabella Empire cannot be occupied by a female assassin. The Empress should have a nobler bloodline to help the Emperor stabilize the empire’s rule.”
But the way Felix looked at her…the more carefully Duke Dias observed, the more he felt his guess was correct…he had clearly invested a lot of emotion.
It seemed he would have to find time to persuade his grandson. How could the ruler of a country let a woman fill his heart?
He mustn’t be like his father, who had actually fallen in love with an evil witch.
…
After leaving Duke Dias’s residence, Felix took a carriage back to his own quarters.
Lady Corrick rode in the same carriage with him.
Felix’s heart was still pounding with excitement. His mind flashed between images of himself wearing the crown and receiving the homage of the crowd, and images of himself surrounded by a group of soldiers, ultimately being outnumbered and killed.
His fate would be decided within this month.
If he won, he would be the supreme Emperor of Gabella. If he failed, he would have nothing, not even his life.
Tense and excited, he couldn’t help but reach out, wanting to hold the lady’s jade-like wrist, but Lady Corrick gracefully avoided him.
“Your Highness, now is not the time.”
“Haha, I’m sorry, Corrick.”
Felix’s face was wreathed in smiles. He had been deeply captivated by this beautiful lady for a long time.
“I swear, Corrick, after I wear the crown, I will definitely make you the Empress of the empire, so that you can share my power and glory with me.”
Because the uprising was imminent, he spoke the words that had been buried in his heart for a long time.
Lady Corrick let out a delicate laugh, which intoxicated Felix.
The lady said softly, “Your Highness is truly joking. When you really ascend the throne, I only ask to be able to accompany you every day as I do now. That would be enough for me.”
“Oh! Corrick, your virtue is as noble as the moon in the sky.”
Felix praised. “I am even more determined in my heart. Yes, only you are worthy of that position.”
Corrick just gave a faint smile.
“Your Highness, you should be single-minded right now and do the task at hand well. Only if you succeed will you have the right to plan for the future.”
“Ah, Corrick, what you say always makes so much sense.” Prince Felix said sincerely.
