Chapter 31: It’s So Cold
CHAPTER 31: IT’S SO COLD
"Why does it feel so chilly." Silas frowned, rubbing his arms and looking from his left to right. He was the only one in the room, yet he felt like he was being watched by a bad thing.
Silas, who’d sat on his bed to relax before starting his stream to play with his followers, was suddenly faced with this disturbing feeling. He shook his head, then started the stream.
[Starting Stream,]
[Stream Started!]
Silas stood to his feet, deciding to check if everyone was okay. He went first to Ice, glad to find her sleeping soundly with nothing out of the ordinary, "was it just my imagination?"
He left Ice’s room, walking down the stairs then straight to Selena’s room. If something were to happen, he had less trust in her survival skills compared to Luke, but she was safe.
She was also sleeping in her room, and he did not notice anything strange. So he moved to Luke’s room, but Luke’s room was locked from the inside, "Luke, you haven’t slept yet?"
"Is there a problem, My Lord?" Luke answered from inside the room, unlocking it from inside and opening his doors to Silas. He watched Silas’ expression, "Did you see anything?"
"I’m just getting a sudden chill. Don’t worry," Silas patted Luke on the shoulder before turning away, listening as Luke locked the door behind him. He took a breath, then sighed.
Silas walked outside with his hands in his pockets, his blue shirt danced in the wind as he narrowed his eyes, casting his gaze on the gates where he was met with a trail of blood.
He narrowed his eyes, then approached the gates patiently, opening them and stepping outside. Normally, Ice would have given him an earful on how dangerous this was at night.
Sadly, Silas forgot the part of the tutorial that read he took orders from anyone. After a while looking left and right into the road, he shook his head, "I should get back inside now."
Just as he turned around to enter the house, Silas heard low rumblings from a distance, then he quickly turned in that direction. His pupils narrowed then he sighed, "At this time?"
’Who the hell would be driving their trucks out this late into the night?’ Silas folded his arms across the chest, watching as the truck drove past, then shaking his head in disbelief.
He had barely dropped the foot he stepped past the gates, when the truck screeched to a halt. Silas frowned, wondering if someone recognised his face, "Why today of all times?"
Suddenly, the doors of the truck opened, and a slender figure staggered outside. As he stared out the corner of his eyes, he realised that it had a feminine body, "but is inhuman."
He noticed right away her mouth was wider than usual, the weird body suit she wore, and the blood stains all over her body. He frowned, preparing to walk in and lock the gate.
"W— wait..." She called out in her soft, chilly voice while she sniffed the air. She waved her hands about as she didn’t know whether she was going to crash into something or not.
"She’s blind?" Silas raised a brow at this, turning to the suspicious truck behind her. It was dark, but even he could notice an armoured truck when he saw one, ’Why is she here?’
"I... am... looking..." she started, tapping the gates with her hand, then sliding her palm across its surface, gasping softly. She only stopped inches away from Silas, "for ...my prey."
Silas wondered why someone would go around wearing a tight bodysuit, even covering the eyes. With her standing so close, he noticed the weird silver linings along her bodysuit.
"Sensors?" He frowned immediately, his interest piqued. He turned around to meet her, holding his chin with one hand and pocketing the other, "You are similar to some predator."
Then again, a predator would need to be in its prime to efficiently hunt prey. Silas was not impressed at the woman, ’Our conversation shows how inefficient of a predator she is.’
"How sure are you that it is around here?" Silas didn’t want to drag this more than it’s required but he decided to put on a little show to start his stream, "I can help you find it."
"..." she didn’t say a word, and just stood there. She stood there long enough, till Silas heard her heart beating through her chest. It was so loud and clear, it deepened his frown.
"I... am... always... sure..." she removed her hand from the gate, then drew in a breath, her lips cracking even wider. Steam oozed out of her mouth as she sighed, "I... marked... it."
"You have pretty lips." Silas remarked, staring at the rows of teeth. He wondered what kind of predator she was— hiding her fangs behind cracking lips, "I’ll let you in our house."
He raised a finger, "On one condition. If you come any close to the main building, then I’ll break your neck. You can search around, but I won’t allow the predator into my house."
"Ether..." she spoke in a raspy voice, nodding her head in agreement to his condition as she stepped forward, then reaching her hand to touch his shoulder, "You can call me Ether."
Seeing her drag her feet past the gate, Silas frowned. He narrowed his eyes, "Just now, I had felt that ominous chill intensify. It must’ve been emanating from that strange woman."
He stepped in after her. He could care less who she wanted to kill, as long as she didn’t step foot in the house, then he wouldn’t have to cause any trouble either for her or himself.
The second Silas locked the gate behind them, Ether groaned then turned to the side an instant later. She staggered forward, sniffing the air as she moved while ignoring the house.
Silas stared in the direction she was walking, guessing that whoever she was looking for must’ve sneaked to the back and hidden themselves there. He shrugged, "She should hurry."
Just as the words left his lips, Ether lunged for the windows at the far left of the house, leaving Silas baffled. Those were the windows in Luke’s room! What was she even thinking?
Before she could burst through the window and cause any trouble, Silas reached out his hand and she froze mid-air. He watched her frail her arms mid-air, but his grip was strong.
"Hey..." Silas spoke in a calm voice as he scratched the back of his head with one hand, and squeezed the other into a fist.
