CHAPTER 37: WRITE YOUR WILL

Verona couldn’t even scream in pain before his head was separated from his body. His neck reduced to disintegrating atoms as his limb body dropped to the road at a high speed.

It crashed to the ground with a loud thud, splattering gore all over the road. Silas who had lost his momentum from the dash, fell to the ground with his pupils fixed on the body.

They narrowed to slits as all the airs on his body stood on end. Silas spun around, then crossed his arms in front of his face, blocking the powerful beam of light formed out of air.

Silas slid across the ground, beads of sweat rolling down his face then boiling away. His metallic arms slowly began to melt, as a sharp pain followed, causing Silas to grit his teeth.

"Teleportation? Illusion? Cloning?" Silas’ eyes snapped from left to right, trying to sight his target in the darkness, but they moved as soon as they attacked, "It’ll be quite difficult."

"Can you hear it?" a voice whispered in Silas’ left ear as the man’s eyes widened and he stared out of the corner of his eyes, only to sight Verona’s grin, "This beautiful symphony?"

——

"Man, I’m tired." Ice yawned, casting her glance to the side, where Selena and Ice sat on the ground discussing. Luke had taken their plates, leaving Ice to monitor Ether and Selena.

"You can turn into a baby shark? Really?" Selena said with shining eyes, reaching out to rub Ether’s false flesh— it felt coarse, unlike her normal skin, "You’re wounded in the lips?"

"It’s a defensive mechanism I was born with... for hiding my shark teeth." Ether did not hesitate to explain, cracking her lips up to her ears to show Selena her hidden shark teeth.

"Ice, look at this. She has so many teeth." Selena turned to Ice, only to find her snoring with her head bowed on the dining table. Selena blinked, then made a face, "You’re awake."

Ice parted one eye, not daring to lift her head. She snored louder, hoping that with this she’d soon fall asleep, and she reassured herself with the saying, "Fake it until you make it."

"Did you know... I can track my prey... from up a ten miles away through scent alone?" Ether boasted, rubbing her nose. Suddenly, her expression twisted, "I’ve got... a good nose."

Selena quickly noticed the change in Ether, then she stood to her feet. Ether narrowed her eyes, sniffing the air like a dog then pausing. She suddenly shouted, "Everyone... duck!"

Selena did not waste any time in throwing herself to the ground, and Ice dipped under her table. In that instant, a strange golden crescent phased through the wall into the room.

It slashed through the air then dispersed in the wall behind them. The door which Luke had closed was slowly pushed open, then a tall figure stepped through with his heavy boots.

The second the boots landed on the ground in front of Ether’s face with a loud thud, she jumped to her feet. Ether snarled, baring her hidden fangs as she pushed Selena behind her.

"My my, you’re feisty." It was a tall blonde man, wearing a long sleeved shirt. His black trousers had a blue claw symbol printed into it. He held a dagger with a gun in his off hand.

"Selena, hide. I’ll lose my mind soon." Ether warned, watching as Selena ran deeper into the diner and ducked behind some drawers and cutlery. After that, she stepped forth, "Tsk."

"You should change quickly. I came here to hunt a beast, not a girl." The man taunted as Ether’s fangs began growing to their full length, along with her fingers and he observed her.

"You’re... not... the... one..." Ether struggled to organise her sentences as she growled, a cold light appearing in her eyes as she entered an offensive stance, "doing... the... hunting."

She dashed forward at an insane speed, swinging her claws in an arc. He lifted his hand and caught the attack with his forearm, allowing her claws to sink in his flesh as he scoffed.

Ether quickly noticed her mistake, trying to pull her claws away, but it was too late. She watched as the man slowly pressed his gun into her stomach, then fired a bullet in her guts.

She screamed out, vomiting blood from her mouth. It wasn’t an ordinary bullet that the man fired in her guts, but one coated with a special chemical for weakening Ether’s healing.

His blade was coated in the same material, and a single slash from it would hurt for the longest time. Ether knew because he was the idiot they used to hunt her after she ran away.

Unlike before, she wasn’t shackled to a disabled body. Ether had access to all her senses, and was ready to unleash a mad beast on him, but losing control was a double edged sword.

If she lost control, getting back to her docile form would take a lot of time. She wouldn’t know who she was hurting during that time, and could end up getting herself in a bad spot.

"Hmm?" The man raised a brow, seeing that Ether was taking too long to think. After a few more seconds, he rolled his eyes and lifted his gun to her chest then pressed the trigger.

The bullet was fired, but it froze halfway and turned into a block of ice that crashed by his feet. The blonde blinked, wondering what happened to his shot, "She got a new ability?"

Ice on the other hand, sat with her legs crossed on the dining table, staring at them in a condescending silence. She would have frozen him to a block, if not for everyone’s warnings.

Ice blinked seeing Ether nod her head. Trying her best to remove the disdainful look she wore on her face, then shaking her head in embarrassment, "I should let her deal with him."

Ether, on the other hand, who had finished with her thought slammed her second hand in his arm, pushing it away as she dragged her claws out, then dashing far away from him.

"This will be easy." She remarked, wearing a bold grin. She was so sure of herself in the execution of this plan she’d taken so long to concoct, "I hope you’ve written you will, Alex?"
