CHAPTER 39: THE NEXT MOVE

Ice watched them with her eyes narrowed, feeling the gap between Ether and the man she called "Alex" had closed. With two much punches from Ether, she got him immobilised.

His hands twitched around his weapons, blood streaming out of his nose and mouth as he lay beaten up on the ground. He groaned, his vision of Ether turning into a distant blur.

"You... let... your... guard... down." Ether said as she glared upon him with contempt, a cold light flashing in her eyes. Ether turned to Ice who watched them with her legs crossed.

"I thought you lost your mind." Ice, who had her hand stretched out, scoffed. She nearly transformed Ether into a block of ice, and since her heat wasn’t transferred, it’d never melt.

"Losing my mind to gain strength is something the likes of him would never see." Ether scoffed, squeezing her fists. She was no longer contained with disabilities like she was once.

As Ether’s ’features’ weakened, she was able to pronounce words more fluently. There’s no need for her to use that form when there were so many people here that she allied with.

All she needed to do was get the idiot to let down his guard trying to weaken her. To do that, she unleashed bursts of strength that slowly weakened over time, and he ate the bait.

The second he weakened his defences to unleash a burst of power, she surged with her held back strength and took him by surprise. Before he could react, Ether finished him off.

"You should never let your guard down, my man." She scoffed whilst glaring down on him with a smirk on her face. Unfortunately, Alex couldn’t reply her even if he wanted to.

"What about Luke?" Selena stepped out from her hiding place, lowering her gaze and frowning at the man who lay collapsed on the ground, then turning to stare at Ice calmly.

Ice frowned after she received Selena’s stare, then she sighed. She rose to her feet and then walked towards the door, leaving Selena and Ether in the room with the man’s body.

They could do with it whatever they liked. She was going to find Luke. As she walked down the fleet of stairs, Ice let numerous thoughts run wild in her head until she arrived.

The second she stepped foot in the living room, she spun around then turned towards the door that led to the kitchen. Ice walked to that door with an icicle circling her finger.

Since the door was open, Ice stepped inside and observed the kitchen. She looked for Luke with a racing heart, but to her relief he was standing at the corner, washing plates.

"Huh?" Luke turned around, staring straight into Ice’s relieved eyes with confusion in his. He was wearing and apron with soap all over his hands, "Is My Lord looking for me?"

"No, don’t worry. We just had a situation upstairs." Ice shook her head, watching him as he returned to his business. She stepped back out, then she turned to the opposite door.

Ice wondered if Silas was done with his guest. She decided to just check since she was already here, and maybe he’d need her help, "I wonder who visited us at such a late hour."

She opened the door, only to find Silas sitting on the chair, staring into the sky. After a thought, Ice decided to join him. Only after Ice sat down beside him, did Silas towards her.

"I wanted to rush upstairs but I guess this was the part where I trust in you." Silas said this, but frankly he could’ve cared less. He was busy contemplating the gravity of the issue.

"Trust in me?" Ice chuckled, then shook her head. She hadn’t needed to lift a finger and left everything to Ether. The idiot they were facing was just too weak to cause any troubles.

"This location has been compromised." Silas explained, tilting his head back and leaning his weight into the chair. He groaned, then turned to Ice, "The resistance tracked her to us."

"Don’t tell me you stole their toy." Ice frowned at the thought. They were barely hiding the Arctic Core, much less having to hide Ether as well. Did he have a penchant for trouble?

"Yeah. I didn’t know it was them." Silas shrugged. He guessed that now he knew who it belonged to, it was only right he returned her to her owners. It would not bother him again.

"Do you want to know how we can keep our location safe?" Ice said, shifting closer to a silent Silas and placing her hand on his shoulder, "We should just go find a newer hideout."

"I was thinking to destroy their base." Silas turned towards Ice and locked his eyes with hers. She circled his chest with her finger, as he continued, "So we’d never have to run off."

"Awn, do you like the place?" Ice even closer, until they were only inches apart. She held his gaze, then curled her lips, "Then why stop at the base? Why not hunt every single one?"

With Ether, that’d be possible. Not only could they find the base, but they could find all the people related to it. Once that base was destroyed, then they could stay here a bit more.

If they were reduced to running and hiding, information would definitely leak that they were in this city then even the hero association would sneak in to retrieve the core he stole.

Silas wrapped his hands around Ice, then pulled her closer to plant his lips on hers. The closer Ice was to him, the harder it’d be for anyone to mess with the core, he held her tight.

Ice parted his lips then forced her tongue in his mouth, coiling it around his. They sat in the chair, kissing and caressing their bodies until Silas and Ice broke the kiss in perfect sync.

They were both out of breath. It was getting quite hot as they locked eyes, not speaking for a while. After some time, Silas opened his mouth to speak, "We should take this inside."

"It’s a bit too hot here, isn’t it?" Ice leaned over to whisper in his ear, keeping her hand coiled around his waist. She listened to his ragged breath, "Let’s take it somewhere colder."
