CHAPTER 45: TROUBLE BREWING

Back in the Beast Domain, Nick could be seen dragging the corpse of the Lamboda Beast behind him with a despondent look on his face.

...He’d come out all this way to go and hunt Mutant beasts, but he had failed to realise just how draining the task of transporting them back to the Sanctuary was.

Still, he wouldn’t just abandon the body of a Mutant Beast because he didn’t want to tire his body out after just having recovered from the battle.

His heart wouldn’t be able to handle doing such a thing!

After all, the corpse alone was worth a nice sum of 30,000 - 40,000 credits!

It was lower than what one might expect on the market for a Mutant Beast corpse, but the Lamboda Beasts corpses were quite low in demand due to their lack of redeeming qualities.

Their meat was inedible, making that practically useless, and their skin... well their waxy layer of skin was what still made them worth selling, as the wax was used in various niche industries due to how high quality it was compared to other, artificially manufactured waxes in the Federation.

The only other worthwhile piece of them would be their bones, which were valuable no matter the type of Beast corpse, simply because they were Mutant Rank bones.

Still, despite their prices and demand being lower than other Mutant Beasts, Nick wasn’t the slightest bit concerned.

He was just happy to be making money again! Especially after he’d spent 90,000 credits just on obtaining their information.

Nick would have to hunt 3 of them at minimum just to recoup what he’d spent on finding them!

And that was exactly what he planned on doing, after he’d finished dealing with the current Lamboda Beast’s corpse.

He needed the funds in his bank, as his current balance was quite low...

The plan of keeping that 100,000 credits he’d earned from working with the War Beasts had basically been thrown in the trash since he’d spent almost all of it already, and mostly on just some information!

Considering he originally wanted to keep those funds to sustain Luna and himself over the coming months, he needed to top his balance back up quickly!

The last thing he wanted was to put Luna in an awkward situation, where she needed money but had none to spend!

Hence, no matter how tiring it was to lug the corpse of the Lamboda Beast behind him, Nick pushed aside those empty thoughts and simply kept on walking until the War Beast Sanctuary eventually came into sight.

Almost immediately he attracted a few surprised, shocked, and odd glances from those around him as they saw him walk through the gates with a nonchalant look on his face, lugging a whole Mutant Beast behind him!

To those who recognised him, they were utterly gobsmacked!

He was the War Beast Sanctuary’s signature Waste Of Space, of course they’d be shocked.

Everyone knew him to be a weakling, an absolute nobody who was forced to hunt the weakest Mundane beasts solo, since nobody wanted or would dare to team up with him.

And he’d earned that reputation in their minds, especially after they saw how dishevelled he looked every time he came back from a hunt, lugging a measly Mundane beast behind him!

Those moments were laughable to everyone at the time!

Yet, that same piece of trash, Waste of Space was now walking through the gates with a Mutant Beast’s corpse trailing behind him!?

Their eyes must be deceiving them...

"Are you seeing the same thing I’m seeing?"

"Damn, my eyes must be playing with me! I’m even seeing hallucinations of the Waste dragging a Mutant beast corpse! Jeez I need to visit the eye doctor..."

"What the fuck am I seeing right now..."

All sorts of murmurs and exclamations rung throughout the area surrounding the entrance of the War Beast Sanctuary.

All because of Nick.

On the side, sitting outside of a popular tavern with a beer in hand, one man in particular was the most shocked to see such a sight.

’The boss told me to note down everyone who walks through the entrance with a Mutant Beast corpse... But this fucking piece of trash has just walked in with one!?’

Krug, one of Beast Slayer’s goons, didn’t know how to react at such a sight.

But he didn’t slack in his duties just because he was surprised to see Nick.

He quickly made a note, detailing Nick and the type of beast he was lugging behind him.

However, even once he’d finished jotting every noteworthy thing down, something still irked at the back of his mind.

The request from his boss to have him sit in front of the entrance all day doing this mundane task was already a weird one, especially after things had started to heat up between the Radiant Slayers and the War Beasts.

Tensions were rising between the two gangs, so he originally suspected that the reason boss had picked him for this task was to spy on any War Beast members coming in and out, with the guise of simply noting down all the people bringing in Mutant Beast corpses.

So he had been noting down any War Beast members alongside anybody bringing Mutant Beast corpses in as well!

’But what if I’m doing too much... what if this piece of trash is the reason boss asked me to do this job!’

He had a hunch that whatever the reason Beast Slayer had asked him to do such a monotonous job for, it had something to do with Nick!

So, while he would normally give in his report at the end of the day like he was instructed, he took a gamble and headed over to Beast Slayer right away!

’Lets hope I made the right decision!’

Krug felt optimistic, but he had no idea the kind of trouble he was spelling for Nick this day...

Nor would he care, as everyone in the big gangs already disliked Nick enough...
