CHAPTER 288: UNEXPECTED GIFTS

The TV clicked off, and Mira’s sad face reflected off the screen as she released a sigh. Mira had been stuck in the house all day today because Jason told her not to go to work, and after seeing the drama and carnage that was happening outside, Mira finally understood why Jason had warned her to stay inside. The streets of Riverdale and most other cities around New Jersey were packed with evacuees who were trying to run away from the Yellow Gate, and Mira knew that if she had gone to work, then she would have been stuck in traffic for hours. But Mira couldn’t help but wonder how in the world Jason knew that a Yellow Gate would appear? Mira looked to the side to glance outside the window, and she saw that it was already dark outside. A feeling of helplessness filled her heart, and Mira put her hands over her face as she felt a desperate sob threatening to escape from her heart!

Mira hadn’t heard anything from Jason since he left this morning, and she felt helpless since she had no idea where he was or what he was doing! She missed her boy, and she wanted him back home! She needed to know that he was okay!

"Mom. Are you okay?"

A voice suddenly came from the doorway, and Mira quickly ran her hand over her eyes to clear her tears before turning to smile at Janet.

"Y-Yes, baby, I’m... I’m fine. It’s late, did I wake you?"

Janet was wearing a pair of shorts and a tank top, and leaning against the door frame as she watched her mother with a worried expression on her face. Even though Mria was trying to hide it, Janet could easily see that she had been crying, and it didn’t take a genius ot figure out why. Janet calmly rubbed her hand before speaking.

"I’m sure Jason is fine, mum. You know how he is; he’s been taking care of himself since before he could walk. Jason wouldn’t abandon us like Dad did."

Mira’s face squeezed into a frown when she heard Janet talking badly about Richard, and she shook her head.

"Don’t talk that way about your father, Janet."

"I wouldn’t need to talk that way if he were still here—"

"It’s not like you’re any better, Janet! You left us too!"

Mira suddenly lost her patience and shouted angrily, and Janet felt a knife stab into her heart when she heard what her mother said! Mira was glaring at the floor while gripping her skirt tightly, and Janet could tell that she had really gone too far and Mira was genuinely angry! Janet struggled not to let her mother’s words affect her as she turned away silently, and Mira let out a sigh and muttered a quiet ’sorry’ for her words.

Janet shook her head as she decided it was best to change the topic.

"I’m still right about Jason. I’m sure he’s fine."

Mira let out another sigh before she sniffled and ran her hand over her eyes while nodding.

"Yeah, you’re right. You’re absolutely right, baby. I’m sure he’s just fine wherever he is. I’m just going to go make something for him. He’ll be hungry when he gets back—"

Ring! Ring! Ring!

A phone suddenly rang from the side, and Mira dashed towards her phone faster than she had ever moved in her entire life and grabbed it! She picked up the phone immediately and spoke with a tone that was filled with pure desperation.

"Hello... Jason?"

Jason’s voice came from the other end of the call.

[Hey, mum. Sounds like you missed me.]

Mira’s eyes watered, and she fell to her knees and put her hand over her mouth when she felt her legs go weak! A feeling of pure joy filled her heart, and she couldn’t stop herself from laughing from how happy she was!

"Welcome back, baby! Sniff~ I missed you so much!"

....

Jason stayed on the call with his mother for a while, and he allowed Gina to speak ot Mira as well since JAson knew that Mira was also really worried aboubt Gina. Gina answered a lot of questions about how she was doing, and she just managed to evade any questions about what really happened to her. Mira made Gina promise that they would come visit once things had settled down, and Gina was more than happy to make that promise. Jason and Gina ended up waiting for close to an hour before Riyala finally finished healing the final person, and Jason took some more time talking to Liam about the plans for the Gate raid the next day. Riyala’s mana had been completely depleted by the time she was done with healing everyone and Jason could see that the superhumans there were deeply grateful for what she had done.

Even though none of the superhumans knew who Riyala was, they shook her hands and laughed with her as they thanked her for her help! But Riyala had a hard time accepting all the praise and thanks since the superhumans didn’t know that she was the reason why the dragon riders had come here in the first place! Riyala wondered if they would still thank her if they knew the truth, and she begged Jason to take her away from there at the first opportunity she had!

The group of three headed towards Jason’s new apartment through the shadows, and Jason was surprised when he noticed three large trucks parked outside his apartment building once he arrived. There were strange men moving in and out of the apartment while carrying large furniture, and Jason walked over to one of the men and asked him what the hell he was doing. The man immediately gave Jason a salute, and he spoke quickly.

"Mr. Cersai asked us to install this furniture for you, sir. They are all top of the line and they’ve been tested by various experts to ensure they provide absolute comfort. Mr. Cersai also sends a message: ’I know this isn’t enough to apologise, but I hope it is a start.’ We just finished up the installations."

Jason felt his eyes narrow in annoyance once he heard that message and he turned to walk into his house with Gina and Riyala following behind him. When they entered, Gina and Riyala both let out shocked sounds once they saw the new furnishings! The house looked completely different from the empty apartment that Jason had been in before! There was a new hundred inch TV hung on one of the living room walls with three large couches arranged around it. There was an expensive-looking glass center table, and a large chandelier, and various classical paintings on the wall.

The staircase had a long velvet rug spread out on it that led up to the second floor and Jason could already tell that the bedrooms would be just as extravagant as the living room. The kitchen was packed with enough utensils, cutlery and ingredients to feed a fucking army, and there was a humongous smart fridge sitting in one corner of the kitchen. Gina looked around with wide eyes as she appreciated the house’s décor! Gina had been planning to decorate the house herself since she didn’t want to waste money on an interior decorator, but she couldn’t deny that whoever had done the decoration here was absolutely brilliant! Gina couldn’t have come up with a better design if she tried!
